Really a turn off the reason I didn't give a one star is because the fellow behind the deli counter was delightfully, friendly, and is much more typical of the people that you encounter working at this wonderful grocery store. I should've taken down the grumpy fellows name or taken his picture. Truly a downer. As for the store, the produce section continues to be fantastic, the deli counter has a great array of choices, and overall it's just a great place to shop!

However, the traffic in the area and the parking have gotten increasingly more hectic and chaotic. Because of this, I have been using a location out in the 'burbs. It was fine getting to 99 Ranch from downtown Austin but getting back to the hotel during rush hour was brutal. At least gas is more affordable in Austin though. 99 Ranch locations are indicators of Asian communities in the US. I wanted to check out the 99 Ranch in Austin before flying back home. The store is in a strip mall and within walking distance of other Asian businesses, businesses similar to the ones you'd find in Downtown Seattle and Tukwila/Southcenter. This 99 Ranch location is newer and cleaner than the one in Kent, WA. Staff were friendlier most likely because it was midday and during the week. I'm sure if it was after work or the weekend the store would have been crowded just like the HMart off Lakeline Blvd. Merch was reasonably priced. Sales tax in TX is less than WA. They also had a separate store around the corner for alcohol. With the high cost of living on the West Coast I'm sure people will continue to move to Texas. They'll find communities or create communities similar to what they've experienced prior to moving to the Lone Star State.

Super convenient setup with a bunch of options. Think of it as a slightly more authentic, low key Panda Express with much larger portions. Like most Asian fast casual spots in this style, they really pile on the food. Three Item Combo ($11.99, 10/10) - comes with a side of fried rice or noodles, or you can split it half and half. Fried rice is definitely cooked better than Panda's. Not too salty, and pairs really well with the entrees. - Orange Chicken had its own spin, a little different from Panda Express but similar overall, crunchy (though not as crunchy as Panda) and very flavorful - Eggplant was amazing, deep fried and then sauteed in a savory marinade, tender, hot, and packed with flavor - 3rd entree sauteed chicken and pepper dish, wasn't as crispy but had a nice Sichuan-ish flavor that paired well with the noodles and rice - the 2 of us were quite hungry going in, but we couldn't even finish 1 order. Portions here are genuinely huge and easily stretch into leftovers for one person Overall, if you're going to 99 Ranch for authentic Asian groceries, definitely check out their food court too. Great prices, fantastic portions, great flavor, and super convenient before or after you shop. Keep it up, 99 Ranch.

The twist: Maytag bleu cheese, bacon and white truffle are all in the potato salad. Truffles and Potato Salad... WOW - what a combination. My taste buds will never be the same. They cater to vegans, vegetarians and carnivores alike. If you are Vegan, you will love their Roasted Carrot and Fennel Soup and their Pumpkin Ginger soup. Hot or cold, as vegan fare, it is the creamiest soup I have experienced, sans the cream. Their Smoky Tomato soup is out of this world, and dare I say, much healthier than the local chain restaurant alternatives. Cheese lovers, get ready with the bread and your spreader, they make a cows milk lemon infused fresh cheese, soft, spreadable and melts in your mouth. I have never had anything like it. I walked away with 2 soups, the cheese and the potato salad. I almost forgot about the potato salad because it was in my fridge less than 24 hours before gobbled up.
