Our event team worked really hard to communicate with the chef and we were very disappointed when he only showed up 60 minutes prior to the dinner starting, cooking in a building where cooking was prohibited, some of his waitstaff was being careless reckless and arrogant with our rented wine glassware, threw away prepared food in our faces and did not serve the full courses we paid for. On top of all that, literally the only thing ready to go was the salad that was on the tables already....the food was not even portioned out or ready and not everyone even got to eat at all. This was so disappointing because he came highly recommended, we vetted him, heard nothing but great things, and it just took a left turn on the day of the event. When we tried to contact him to discuss the aftermath, safe to say we were ghosted completely and he obviously didn't care because he was already paid....we felt scammed. Maybe he just didn't like us but that shouldn't have mattered when we had already signed a contract and paid you 30+ days in advance, so this was not a last minute request either. Hope this does not happen to anyone else...I'm posting this and chalking it up to hope he was just having a bad day and with the hopes that the chef and his team have improved since then. They show up with enough time to get everything set up, literally do 100% of that themselves; and all I had to do was point a finger to where they could set up and the folding tables we had set aside for them to do so. They have an excellent set up, we got the tea service (which I highly recommend), dessert (an array of delicious pies) and then a Roast Beef Buffet, with sides of Mashed Potatoes, Delicious Roasted Broccoli and a Corn Casserole! Every single item is thoughtfully prepared and so yummy! They were extremely considerate of our dietary limitations, ensuring a vegan item (quinoa and tofu dishes) on the buffet to ensure our staff members in need got to enjoy every moment as much as the rest of us (who will eat anything!). They set up the tables festively for the upcoming holiday, which matched well with our existing decor. They kept all items hot throughout the entire two hour event; not only did they never run out of food for our group of over 100, they left us a number of to-go boxes and the pies for our staff members to bring home or enjoy in office :)! This is professional service at its best, and literally brings home cooking (of whatever you are looking for) to your crowded table for a great event. We were people who ordered out every meal and ate frozen meals for lunch each day. Now we have fresh food delivered each week and it's so easy to reheat. All the back and forth (and drama) that came with dinner time is gone. Chef Lavell worked with us to come up with an original, delicious pescatarian menu that incorporated all of our favorite foods--blue cheese, salmon, and truffles. The Moroccan spiced salmon was a big hit, and the chef's homemade smoked Jamaican jerk sauce could pair well with anything! Another comment on the jerk sauce--it provided our wedding menu a bbq option--an experience we wanted to provide to our out-of-town guests. In addition to the main fish options, the creamy risotto side with Romano cheese, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, and pine nuts was so delicious I could have made a meal of it alone! Even my vegetable-averse parents liked the roasted Brussel sprouts and the salad (a beautiful combination of candied pecans, roasted squash, and pickled red onions). Chef Lavell also sourced our favorite desserts--crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, and pecan pie. Unfortunately, my wife and I were so busy at the wedding that we barely had time to taste the food brought to our table; however, Chef Lavell very thoughtfully and generously provided us with a some prepped meals to-go--we otherwise would have missed out on our own wedding menu! The food was delicious--and so too was the price! The quote from Real McCoy Catering came in at almost HALF those dished out by other Austin caterers. Chef Lavell had suggestions for how to cut costs without significantly impacting the experience, like bringing in our own alcohol and serving buffet-style. He was also attentive to details like making sure the tables were set beautifully--even having the servers' ties match the color of the tablecloths! Chef Lavell is cheery and reassuring; I got a big smile on my face every time I spoke with him leading up to the wedding--no easy feat considering the stress that planning a wedding can bring.
