This place is awesome. Really cute and spacious cafe with a great outdoor patio and friendly employees! My caprese sandwich was the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked and so delicious; melted cheese heaven. They had a special lemonade the day I was there, marionberry I think, that was super. If I lived closer, I'd definitely be frequenting this place! Unfortunately, I was just passing through, but I'm so glad I stopped here. This is a cute place that seems slightly out of place in Cheney. It's almost like Chaps' little brother and I mean that in the nicest way! It has a Pinterest-y feel, a simple menu, good coffee, and outstanding staff. I stopped here once last year for lunch and had a sandwich. It was pretty good. Nothing to write home about but I enjoyed it. Most recently, I came by with my sister for coffee and a bite to eat. I has the 7 layer bar based on her recommendation and it was really good. A bit crumbly, but once I accepted that it wasn't going to be easy, clean bites, it was good. I couldn't list all 7 layers, but there were a bunch of chocolate chips (both milk and white), coconut flakes, walnuts... and three or four other things. I went 5 stars because I get the feeling that these people really care. Since I went back, they had expanded their space and done some remodeling. They are doing it right, not just trying to get by. Both times I've been, they've been super busy and are clearly adored by the student body at Eastern. If you ever find yourself in Cheney, this is where you should go. read more

What a delightful little place! The cozy atmosphere, excellent customer service, wonderful espresso & delicious food items I experienced on my visit here today ensured that I'll be back. I was very pleased with the rich, robust flavor of my expertly made, $2 espresso. The coffee they use here is phenomenal. I couldn't resist the lure of enjoying a bacon maple scone with the coffee, which ended up being a good choice as it, too, was really great. The sweet maple glaze balanced well against a savory dough flecked with crunchy bits of bacon, and the texture of the scone was spot on - soft with only lightly crispy edges, not too dry or crumbly. It was neither aggressively salty nor overly sweet. (Edit: I have now eaten this scone several times and I will say that I, and everyone who has ever been with me who tasted it, feel these scones could benefit from more maple drizzle.) The scone whet my appetite so I also decided to indulge in a more substantial nosh. They had several very interesting Panini choices; almost got the Waldorf - cream cheese, feta, pear, honey walnuts, cranberries, yum! Other choices were $5 ramekins of crusty-edged pasta al formaggio, $4 buttery looking quiche, large $6 helpings of pot pie, and some very good looking soups. I was assured by the girl taking my order that everything on the menu is house made, which really made the prices seem even more reasonable, considering nothing is over $7. I finally settled on a very interesting looking item called "The Continental Kick" ($6) Ham, bacon, cheese & Tabasco on egg-dipped Italian garlic bread. It was a great choice; the bread, which had been dipped in egg on one side, was well toasted/pressed so that the cheese had melted perfectly into meats, which were very good quality. I do feel there could have been a bit more meat, however. The added dashes of tobacco brought the whole dish together and the effect was quite delicious. I wish the bread would have evidenced more garlic (I couldn't taste any at all) but if they hadn't said it was garlicky I wouldn't have even noticed it missing. Because I was pretty happy with what I'd eaten so far, on the way out I bought a slice of a very toothsome-looking raspberry glazed pound cake to enjoy later. They gave me a huge, moist slab, which looks well worth the measly $3 price tag. I'm really looking forward to it, as well as to going back to The Mason Jar soon to enjoy more delightfully fresh-baked treats and to try another one of those rather interesting Panini! read more

Mason Jar is a "must have" restaurant for visitors and locals of Cheney WA. Inside the restaurant, the ambiance is hip with ample barn type, individual, and window bar seating. Outside seating is also available under a canopy of trees and offers a small town feel. The lunch menu primarily consists of gourmet sandwiches and freshly baked sweets. We had the Toscana and the French Dip sandwiches and both were amazing. The scone with jam was a great touch to end our meal. Upon leaving, my father (with whom I shared the meal) commented that the sandwiches were a bit pricey, to which I responded "that is why they were so good"; we both chuckled... I absolutely LOVE the mason jar! Great coffee, great food and great entertainment. They have a good selection of breakfast and lunch options as well as yummy treats and snacks if you're not feeling a full meal. The sand which with an egg is mouth watering. It's a great atmosphere and they are always helping out the community. They have live music on Thursdays and do paint nights every once in a while on Fridays. Having made several trips to Cheyney to visit our son (student at EWU) I was beginning to think that a great lunch might be hard to come by. Finally, after multiple visits, he jumped at the mere mention of The Mason Jar, he had heard it was very good and was ready to let his mom buy him food. Wow! This might be the one of better sandwich place in the greater Spokane area (or the greater Cheney area, however you chose to rank it, no offense to Cheneyites) I loved the diverse menu, and for the mom picking up the check (uhh, that would be me) - the prices were very fair and I liked that all sandwiches were the same price. Our hungry crowd devoured the assorted sandwiches including the Tuscan and the Mediteranean - both were served hot, with side of chips and a pickle spear. What made these sandwiches extra special was their house made condiments - garlic aioli, for example. The bread was great of course, and the layered magic was unique - you won't find these concoctions anywhere else - yes, they were that uniquely designed. My son and I are both known to be tea snobs (and, why not? I' can think of worse character flaws...) - we were happy to find they serve Mighty Leaf Tea, a beautiful offering you don't see too often. The vibe was cool, service was genuinely warm and friendly - (almost like they LOVE what they do???!) I grew up in a staunchly conservative family. At thanksgiving we'd have everyone come over and eat together. Conversation often turned political, as it normally does when families converse. I had one aunt who brought forth a more left-wing mentality, who inspired the rest of the family to consider the possibility of beliefs and values out side of the deep depths of conservatism in which they resided. We are in town visiting my daughter in Spokane. She has school at EWU in Cheney. We decided to take her to school but during her break we went into the town of Cheney to get a bite to eat. We were actually heading to Starbucks when we spotted The Mason Jar to our left. It look like a cute place from the outside and I decided that we should try something different and locally owned. This place had a cute atmosphere and decor with beautiful lighted mason jars hanging from the ceiling. We tried a croissant sandwich and French toast and a couple of cups of coffee. Super cute spot in downtown Cheney. Love the vintage decor and cozy atmosphere. It's like modernized version of Little House on the Prarie and I'm down with that! Always such great service and warm smiles as soon as . The food is simple but tasty and good coffee too! We ordered The Classic, Eggs En Cocotte, and French Toast. Lets start with The Classic. HOLY WOW. No wonder this is their most popular breakfast dish. The biscuit was so fresh and flakey, the eggs, bacon, sausage, and cheddar were equally distributed and smothered in their homemade garlic aioli, which literally blew our minds. You guys, this garlic aioli was life changing. I must have the recipe and I must put it on everything I eat from this point forward. I went to take the first bite by picking it up and taking a bite... yeah, this biscuit is meant to be eaten with a fork. As Cheney has so few restaurants it is sad that a place with so much potential failed miserably. Best part-cucumber infused water. The Biscuits & Gravy looked good but the biscuits were over cooked and hard as hockey pucks. The Egg Cocott... consisted of over cooked eggs/hard/shinny & chewy. I really like this little hole in the wall cafe. The people there are really laid back, friendly and are welcoming of everyone. They have excellent coffee, fantastic mimosa's and great food. I had a simple grilled cheese sandwich and it was fantastic. If you're looking to be waited on, you'll have to go to a more formal restaurant. They offer your utensils and water to the side as more of a "serve yourself" atmosphere but I didn't find that off putting at all. I really appreciated the cucumber water as well. The only thing that was slightly bothersome was that it was fairly hot (no air conditioning?) and because the doors were open, we also ended up with little flying guests. There is outdoor seating though and we could have easily eaten out there. Don't, however, let that stop you from going there. It's really worth visiting and I know we'll be back. read more

The coffee shop is a really cute place it is just feels like a claustrophobic place I always feel like the walls are closing in on me because the venue is way too small. The atmosphere lacked space I felt weird having customers so close in line behind your chair. Saw peoples portions were small and the wait for my simple Pumpkin Spice latte was way too long. A sorority took over the venue and they only had one person making drinks and they need more than 1 espresso machine and more employees working. -The drinks are really good but they need to improve their service and make the atmosphere feel less crowded. -My drink was way too cold they made it luke warm;/ should of done extra hot. - The people are nice I just think they need to make their drinks hotter and speed up their process. This place makes Starbucks more appealing to me sometimes because, I get my drink way faster and it is warmer. read more

The service started off great the food was great, but out experience seemed to take a turn of events when we were accused of being prejudice of a certain customer in the bakery. My girlfriend and I were simply enjoying our food and conversing about our weekend facing the window. Apparently the other customer felt we were whispering about them when we truly were not. The way the waitress approached us about the situation was very demeaning and rude. We explained that in no way shape or form were we whispering or even commenting on the other customer. We were simply talking about our weekend and our friends upcoming birthday. It was clear that the waitress did not take our word for it as she stared at us with a look of disgust, which in turn, made us feel as though "we should be ashamed of ourselves". The food was great but the overall experience was not the best to say the least. read more

Over the last year, I have been a fairly frequent customer to this cute little establishment for multiple reasons. It's got an awesome, homey atmosphere where you can just go in, order a coffee, and read, or meet up with friends. They also occasionally have live music playing in the evenings, generally folk or acoustic sets. The staff is very nice and accommodating, and they certainly know their way around the kitchen! The food and drinks there are both awesome. So far, I haven't found anything that I haven't liked. My favorite items are the London fog (with honey!) and the chicken club sandwich, both of which are made perfectly every time I order them. Unfortunately, the prices are a bit steep, maybe a buck or two more than seems appropriate, but I'm willing to overlook the price tag due to the quality. The only other complaint I would have is that the hours seem a little strange to me. On the weekends during the summer, they are only open from 9 to 2, which seems to close them off to a lot of potential weekend business. They also seem to change their business hours somewhat frequently, which is a bit bothersome. All in all, though, this is a great little coffee shop with some great products and great people, and I can already taste tomorrow's London Fog. Go give it a try sometime! read more
