I usually go with the Southern Reuben, but thought the Bacon, Brie and Blackberry Jam with Jalapeños would go with the soup of the day, and it did! Delicious!! From the start this place was very welcoming and warm. The menu is so unique. As you can see from the photos no one left anything on their plate. We share the Wisconsin cheddar soup, the tuna salad with Swiss on croissant, Southern Ruben on croissant, southern salad, and for an extra $1 you chips, pickle, & slaw. Delicious! First time going to the market place and I'll say right off the bat they do a lot of things right here -- The restaurant itself is very nice and "homey" if you will... Good ambience, very spacious inside. There's a lot of nice decorations, and paintings for sale from (I assume) local artists. In the lady's bathroom there's a lot of religious art work and scripture related things, which I really liked. The outdoor seating is great as well. Over all "The Market Place" has a lot of personality My husband and I ordered 2 smoothies, the bacon and brei sandwhich, the roast beef sandwhich, the chicken salad croissant, and lastly a piece of cheesecake and chocolate cake (we were hungry in our defense haha) Upon checking in on yelp, we were also awarded with a free chocolate chip cookie! The sandwiches here are a definite 5 stars, and personally I highly recommend the bacon and brei. My husband and I were definitely more than satisfied. The wait staff here is also 5 stars. We were attended by nearly all the servers, as they do a shared tip/order system. Quick story - My husband ordered the monkeys breakfast smoothie, to which they informed us they didn't have anymore bananas so he would just be getting peanut butter, milk, and oats. He decided to order it anyway and the staff went out of their way to make sure he knew what he was ordering. They even made it, and let him sample it so he could decided if he liked it or not free or charge. In the spirit of full transparency IF I had to say ONE thing that wasn't 5 star about this restaurant, it would be how long it took to get our sandwiches.... There weren't too many people when we arrived, and we noticed that a table that sat down about 10 minutes after us, got their meal before we did. Since this was our first time and I like to air towards the positive, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume there was good reason for this, but because everything else was so great I'm going to give them the 5 stars. The Market Place is a great deli for lunch and can accommodate large groups, which included me and my friends this particular day. Right away I noticed it's warm and friendly atmosphere upon entering and instantly fell in love when I walked in. Lots of options when it comes to sandwiches and I opted for my go-to, chicken salad on a croissant, which was delicious. They do have gluten free available if you have dietary restrictions. I ordered a hot drink to enjoy while I waited for my meal to arrive, in addition to their famous clove tea, which was sweetened just how I like it! The chicken salad was so good I could have eaten two but decided to save room for dessert when I saw they had fried apple pies on the menu! If you're not into pie, they also have cake, cookies (free chocolate chip with yelp check-in), smoothies and bars. They have a lunch combo that includes 1/2 sandwiches with your choice of soup or salad for a great deal. There are also options to take home large portions of a few items by the pound such as their tuna salad, pimento cheese, slaw, soup, etc. Outdoor seating on days when the weather is nice and venue space available for rent. To start, I wouldn't say anyone there was friendly. Long wait, even though there wasn't anyone in there. Lots of workers standing around though, so no clue why it took so long. My biggest complaint is that one of the workers stood on the counter by the drinks to put ice into the soda dispenser. As a native of the area, I remember the original Marketplace Restaurant on Midland Rd. This namesake is a sad attempt at the original. The waitstaff is preoccupied and unfriendly. The classic roast beef sandwich with Brie on a croissant was super delicious at the original restaurant but the new incarnation is a thin and soggy attempt. Well today was a bust at Marketplace. I'm not local, but when I'm in, it's a favorite to stop in. I had plans to go for lunch today, but due to an unforeseen emergency I knew I wouldn't make it. I still wanted to order my favorite sandwich(bacon & Brie)so I called it in as a scheduled pick up, they happily took my order. I arrived to pick my order up and this is where things went downhill. A lady came to ring me out where about a 2 minute speech began of raking me over the coals. Said what I did was unacceptable, and essentially because of me there would be no more orders taken over the phone. Apparently the sandwich was on special today and it was in such high demand they ran out of ingredients and it wasn't fair for me to be able to order my sandwich to pick up later in the day. There was more to the conversation, but overall all very disappointing and could've approached this situation differently. I didn't order my sandwich to be unfair or to stress them, I ordered because it's my favorite sandwich and I was passing through town. I will be marking this off my list of stops, which is unfortunate since it was one of my favorites. The server was very pleasant but when I got my chicken salad sandwich it was very disappointing. I may have missed the listing but I am not sure why it was served on an overly dry croissant. Second one half is the sandwich the croissant had split so it was falling apart., problematic when it was ordered to go. Stopped in to The Market Place restaurant for breakfast. The restaurant is very cute, I sat at a window seat and it was a very calm relaxing atmosphere. The server was very nice and attentive while not being overly hovering and the Brie and Bacon Melt with blackberry and jalapeño jam on croissant was delicious. The croissant was flakey and buttery and the bacon was extra crispy exactly the way I like it. I get lunch to go from here pretty frequently since I work right up the road from there. They do a pretty good job of making sure all of our food is correct when we place to-go's . I LOVE the Clove tea. It's just a nice hint of it in the traditional sweet tea. Croissant sandwiches are the best and it's nice to have a choice of regular or Large sandwiches. The roast beef & brie, and Chicken salad are our favorites. The slaw is a little different, but in a good way ( more of a sweet vinegar base) They have fresh baked goods, desserts, coffee, quiches and homemade soups. Staff and service are always super helpful and friendly. That is with dining in and to-go. My only wish is that they had just a couple more keto/low carb options, but that's more of a personal thing since it's so hard to resist the delicious croissants. read more

Went for lunch, ordered Bacon & Brie sandwich, the girl at the counter seemed like she didn't want to be there and had a bit of an attitude, sandwich came and it was roast beef & Brie, I told her that wasn't what I ordered, she took it back and was back very quickly, so obviously they took the roast beef off and replaced it with the bacon. Bacon was a bit hard to chew (was probably reheated). My husband came to meet me, he ordered, came to the table and said the same thing that I was thinking about the counter girl.. I messaged the owner through FB and he "assured" me that all sandwiches are made fresh .. told him a friend wanted to meet there the following week, so I would give it another try.. the second visit I ordered the potato soup and 1/2 of sandwich, was very disappointed, a lot of the potatoes in the soup were hard, the sandwich was "weak" the 1/2 of sandwich was so small and barely had anything on it, with a drink it was around $15! So not worth it! I wanted to give it a second chance, we like to support local businesses, but we definitely will not be going back.. also I have read the owners responses to anyone who didn't give a good review and his responses were very rude. read more

First time here for lunch. Loved it. Let's start with staff. Friendly and attentive but not annoying. Your drink glass will not go dry either. I had the lunch special which is half sandwich and cup of soup. I chose the chili and a pimento cheese sandwich. The chili was really good. My visit to this establishment was way less than satisfactory. I was alarmed to see that the staff was not wearing masks in food preparation nor food service! I mentioned my concern to the waitress and she said management didn't require it. NOTE: It is a requirement by the State of North Carolina, since 6/24/20! A quick call to the health department was also revealing; "several complaints" have been filed and they still refuse to put the safety of their customers and staff first by following the mask mandate. The food was nothing to write home about. When I went to go pay, the cashier asked me how the food was and I simply made a recommendation that the sandwich would be better if a hearty whole grain bread was used, which I asked about when I had ordered and was told it was. She became belligerent and threw my credit card at me, and said that my business was not wanted and to leave. I have been in the service industry for 30+ years and would never respond to a customer In such a rude and arrogant manner. I have lived here for two years and I had never been to this gem. Some co-workers took me last week, and I loved it. I had the chicken salad sandwich, and it was delicious. I cannot wait to take my family there, because I know they will love it, too. There seemed to be something for everyone on the menu. I would also add, our server was wearing a mask, and they had people seating at every other table, so it was definitely socially distanced. I wanted to like this place. It is adorable on the inside and the service was pretty good. But the food is WAY below average for a high price. I had a Mediterranean salad with chicken. Boy was it a huge disappointment at a premium price ($16 before tip). The lettuce was a mix of iceberg and bad Romain and tasted like a plastic bag and was a very small serving. The tomatoes were tasteless and not ripe and sliced in rounds as if for a sandwich. The olives were terrible and old. The feta was clearly some bargain variety of tasteless origin. The chicken was that crap that you buy at the grocery store in pieces already cooked and shrink wrapped. The balsamic dressing was fair to average---but definitely mass bottled dressing and not house made. Nothing about this salad was fresh, nothing was tasty, nothing was made in house. I have been to The Market Place several times over the years. I decided to give this place another try, because on my recent trips, the portions seem small, and the service isn't great. I always feel like I'm being rushed out the door. Yesterday, I walked in and noticed the staff not wearing masks. I decided not to eat there. The fact that masks were not worn by staff worried me for a number of reasons. One, it shows a lack of concern for the state guidelines regarding COVID-19. Two, it shows lack of concern for the safety and health of the owner's employees and dining patrons. Lastly, it makes me question the basic cleanliness of the restaurant itself. If you have an owner, who thumbs her nose at the state guidelines concerning C-19, what other routine health regulations might she be ignoring or overlooking? While I understand she may feel like it's her constitutional right not to require masks or face coverings for her employees, which she is entitled to, then I can exercise my constitutional right not to dine at this establishment. However, I thought the state made PPE a requirement at all restaurants and stores. Either way, it's very disappointing, as I like to support all local businesses.
