Amazing evening with close friends in Pinehurst tonight. The main dining room was filled with golfers, families & cute babes who stole every show! The room was down right cold when we were seated - almost expected with all seats occupied. HVA/C was corrected as the parties departed. Our 4 top was the last to leave. Now onto our service - she was amazingly polite as she recognized we had not seen each other in nearly a year. Lots of news about our families, mutual friends and a few interesting neighborhood characters. Wine selections matched everyone's entree choice. Their French Onion soup was simply to die for, followed by a selection that ranged from a simple Fish & Chips, a crisp Cobb Salad, a flaky Chicken Pot Pie & aromatic Beef Bourguignon. All this was topped off with a warm double chocolate brownie smothered with a creamy French vanilla ice cream - thankfully the server figured correctly as she delivered this sumptuous treat with 4 spoons read more

The Manor is spectacular. Period. The staff was beyond amazing. I mean I was pretty b,own away by the extra effort from everyone. I screwed up my Rent-A-Car by not bringing my drivers license. So once I got to the resort, I was very nervous as to how I was gonna get around because the place is so big. They told me about their shuttle system. I kid you not that no matter where you are. There is a phone that somebody will pick up instantly and call a shuttle for you and that shuttle will most likely arrive within a matter of two minutes. It is unbelievable how efficient that system is. It absolutely blew my mind. I never needed a car. My clubs were waiting for me every morning at the course without having to carry them in and out of the hotel. Every single place that I ate had amazing food and amazing drinks. I went there during November when the price drops and I was absolutely blown away at how cheap it was to stay in such a beautiful room. The Golf Course courses were amazing and yes, they are very difficult. It's not even a question. I'll be back. There's another 1 star review on here of a gentleman that says you're forced to stay in a $2000 a night two bedroom room if you wanna play golf at the Resort. That is absolutely not true. As long as you're staying at the resort, no matter what room you pick you have access to Golf. I was pretty baffled by some of the Bed reviews that I read. Pinehurst is a lovely area. But the resort leaves a lot to be desired. We stayed in a Villa room. The TV did not work the entire night. The remote control was not paired to operate the TV. We ordered room service for dinner and the food arrived with no silverware, the drinks were room temperature and there was no ice. Tried to make coffee in the morning and the Keurig coffeemaker was broken. I love the golf courses, but I would not stay in the resort again. read more

Nice golf courses but not worth the money. They force you to stay at their $2,000 per night for a two bedroom condo if you want to play their courses. The condo was on par with Motel 6. Dirty stain carpet and mismatched furniture bought at an estate sale. I filled out a survey and customer service agent emailed me and asked me to call him. He was never working when I called and they would not tell me his working hours. I think he was a non-existent customer service agent. Not worth the money!!! read more

Yes, we chose Pinehurst as our destination for our crony golf trip this year and we were all extremely pleased with our choice once we arrived. The reason we chose Pinehurst was for its status as a hub for competitive golf at all levels. We lodged at the Carolina Hotel which dates to 1901. Most of the Hotel has been updated and there was still active construction when we arrived. The lobby and public areas were also getting a facelift to be completed prior to the 2024 US Open. Regardless, our room and the hotel accommodations were fabulous. We were set to play Pinehurst No. 2 as our first golf course; a Donald Ross gem. Or as I called it, a challenging course. The golf course has raised greens and perpetually slightly off-kilter playing angles which challenge anyone. The natural scenery on every hole is beautiful; the rough consists of sandy and scrubby bushes that only seasoned caddy can locate your ball. The fairways had a springboard once the ball landed, but that might have been my illusion. Regardless, the greens were a challenge, but the overall play was entertaining. We also enjoyed the Cradle afterwards, a Par three nine-hole course about just having fun. And we also played on our trip Pinehurst No. 8 & No. 6, unfortunately unable to get a tee time for Pinehurst No. 4. Overall, a magical golf experience which was more than what we expected. read more

It's old, it's got character, it's unforgettable and you'll experience something unique. I was with a group of 11 golfers, we played #2, #1 and #4 and added 'The Cradle' as a bonus. Donald Ross is immortalized here. You can see his former home off the fairway on #2. You'll be well taken care of in every way. The food is incredible. We got the breakfast package which gets you the buffett breakfast every morning starting at oh 600! The dining room at the Carolina Inn has a great menu and something for everyone though the guys that had the steak entrees were not so favorable. I had the Wedge salad and added the chicken and salmon and asked for just the iceberg lettuce and it was great! They have a shuttle that takes you the 5 min ride to the Golf course complex that runs through the day and into the evening. The room and accommodations were outstanding. There are so many restaurant & food options you will be impressed. The service is outstanding and there is always someone available to answer your questions. We came here just for a day trip as it's just under 2 hour drive from wake Forest. Carolina hotel is steeped in history and they encourage congregating on the patio as it has lovely rocking chairs to enjoy the serenity. The walls are filled with all the famous golfers and even Annie Oakley who started a gun club and held exhibitions here. There are several outdoor pools and a spa so plenty to enjoy even if you're not a golfer. We met a woman who came on a package for golf school and they offer lessons to all skill levels. The famous golf course # 2 is just a short drive from where the hotel sits. Again, they welcome you to sit and watch the golfers lucky enough to hone their skills. They don't allow carts on this course but they have 8 other courses on property. It's a beautiful historic area and the downtown area of Pinehurst has shops and eateries to explore. The administrative staff hosted an informative educational field trip for Sports Management majors at the University of Mount Olive and students in the Professional Golf Management program at Sandhills Community College. The panel of experienced professionals offered a history of Pinehurst, statistics, strategies, and words of wisdom to the 30 students present. They answered students' questions. We were also given a personal tour a section of the golf course and resort. Exceptional hospitality and generosity from Pinehurst. While the Ryder Cup Lounge is under reconstruction, the hotel has created a space for those patrons in the front portion of the main dining room. Not ideal, but they make it work. So when you are looking for a nice dinner in the dining room be sure to ask for a table in the back portion of the dining room. There, you will find a more refined dining experience. Our dining experience was just what we expected. We were served by a professional staff of waiters and the food was delicious. The prices were reasonable and dessert was spectacular. Our room is terrible. We came all the way here from California, and here is our view. There is literally no place to unpack. One nightstand drawer each. We are here all week. The shower leaks all over the bathroom floor! Housekeeping didn't show up to turn over our room until 4:15pm when we were already back in the room after having been gone all day. Also, the walls are as thin as cardboard, and I can hear the country music from the room next to us as I am trying to take a nap. Very disappointed in our experience at the Carolina Inn. I expected much more. The village is nice though. Very quaint. read more

I stayed at The Carolina Hotel , first class! I love this place and the food was excellent! The Ryder Cup lounge is excellent, I recommend the wings and the key lime pie is best ever category! This is a great place to unwind after an amazing round of golf at one of the 9 courses. The porch is where you want to be rehydrating! We were supposed to enjoy the breakfast buffet but were forced to order room service due to the current pandemic. The room service was superb and I can only imagine how amazing the buffet would have been. I will recommend the pancakes , best ever. Also the smoked salmon on a bagel, omelette and eggs Benedict were all top notch. The golf : wow! I played # 2 twice, number 4 twice, # 8 and # 9. Number two is obviously a must play as is # 4 but #8 and #9 were both amazing, #8 may have been a slight favorite over #9. This place is amazing and I can not wait to return! read more

My husband and I stayed here while he played in the Mercedes golf tournament. The Mercedes people made our experience absolutely miserable. They were incredibly rude and unhelpful with everything. They talked down to people and gave short answers as if they couldn't be bothered. Our trip felt like it was going downhill fast. BUT thank heavens for the Pinehurst staff at the Carolina Hotel. Everyone we came into contact with was AMAZING! I brought my 3 month old along because I wasn't comfortable leaving him just yet. The Mercedes people wouldn't allow me at any of the golf events because I had a child. I was so upset to be stuck at the hotel the entire time. However, thanks to the hotel staff I never felt "stuck." Everyone went out of their way to make me and my little one feel comfortable. One night at dinner he got fussy and tired right before my food came out. To avoid a scene I asked to have my food put in a to-go box and given to my husband so I could take my baby upstairs. The staff however did not put it in a to-go box and give it to my husband. Instead they plated it beautifully and the manager himself brought it up to my room for me! It was so incredibly thoughtful. I appreciated not having to eat a steak out of a to-go box! The staff in the Ryder's cup restaurant are beyond kind. Everyone makes you feel like you're right at home. I love the rocking chairs they have placed out on the patio. I was able to enjoy a glass of wine while sitting outside rocking my little one in a chair. Even the cleaning ladies were so kind. When I told them I had an infant they worked around our nap schedule so he could sleep without interruption and when he was awake we left for them to come tidy the room. If needing a hotel to stay at in the area I HIGHLY recommend the Carolina Hotel. It's a beautiful hotel with a fantastic staff that will take great care of you read more

This resort is very nice. It has a historic feel to it, because of it's history. However, it has been updated in certain areas of the hotel/resort, which still gives is a nice feel. There are some good activities to do here...golfing, the spa or just eating at the restaurant/sports bars and watching games. The interior of the resort is nice, from the main entrance to the restaurant and bar areas. The rooms are nice as well. They have a relaxed, southern feel to them. If you are looking for modern accommodations, this may not be the place for you. The small town of Pinehurst also has restaurants, shopping and bars. Recommend trying out the resort! read more

Excellent place for just not only golf but a Spa weekend for Mother's Day! It started out with our arrival. The best check in service was with a fellow named Kasen. He was fantastic and accommodating to my needs and wants. The Spa was perfection. My massage was with Sam and my mom was with Alicia, both were well versed in massage and very professional. Dinner at 1892 was superb. The beef short ribs were to die for, finishing with the exquisite soufflé! The host Al was hilarious and even gave us a parting gift of the recipe for pumpkin biscuits! First of all, if you go to Pinehurst, you must stay at the Carolina Hotel. They are refreshing the hotel, but it is dated and historic. Our room was cozy and comfortable, but the water from the shower kept leaking so there was always a puddle of water after showering. The food at the Carolina was mediocre, sadly we were really disappointed by the quality of the food. The chicken was dry, the salmon was mushy, and the mashed potatoes were blah. Given the history, grandiose and reputation of the Carolina, we expected great things in terms of their restaurant. Most of the staff were exceptional and super friendly we only ran into one person at the front desk who was not up to par with the rest of her colleagues. Highly recommend staying at the Carolina when staying in Pinehurst. We golfed at No. 8, 2, and 4. 8 was a nice warmup to 2 and 4. The waste lands and narrow fairways on No. 2 made it challenging and the greens were brutal. No. 4 was the most aesthetically pleasing and a lot of fun to play after playing No. 2! On our last day we played the Cradle and that was a very fun way to end our golf trip! read more

My wife and I recently visited Pinehurst Resort a few weeks ago and except for the accommodations, we had an outstanding trip. We played #2, #4 and #7, and are outstanding courses. Caddies for #2 and #4 and well worth the extra expense to navigate these bucket list courses. The services at Pinehurst are top shelf and the entire staff, from the golf to the restaurants, spa and other amenities were excellent. One major disappointment was the condominium provided to us as part officials our golf package, and was old, dated, cheap furniture and pretty bad considering the high price we paid for the trip. We stayed at the Linville Condos and I would suggest asking to see pictures before agreeing to accept the accommodations. Excellent restaurant on site. I had NY Strip Steak that was awesome, I could even cut it with a fork and it was over 2" thick. The atmosphere was perfect and decorated for Christmas. The golf alone is top notch and while #2 gets most of the accolades (and definitely well deserved), some of the other courses like #4 and #8 are also a must play. As a background, Pinehurst Resort is the Mecca for golf enthusiasts to make a pilgrimage to the origin of Golf in America. The Pinehurst Resort is a reminder of Southern Hospitality and golf in days of a different era. The resort used to have strict dress codes such as men's jackets for dinner as an example, but now they only require causal clothes. It is a vacation spot for golfers, and non golfers alike. What spurs golfers to stay at one of the resort hotels is the ability to reserve a tee time at one of the 9 temples (I.e. golf courses) that the religious golfer practices their religion. If you plan to golf at the prized Pinehurst #2 where the US Open is set to play in 2024 you will need to book accommodations at the Pinehurst Resort. Pinehurst #2 is where Payne Stewart won the US Open in 1999 before his tragic death. Now you have booked a golf package and have started your day. You will be greeted on arrival by your hosts that will unload your baggage. Check-in is at 4 PM but you can store your luggage at the hotel and start playing right away. If you decide to eat breakfast, the Carolina Dining room hosts a buffet open from 6 AM to 10AM where a pianist provides an atmosphere from days gone by. Pinehurst Resort has 9 18 hole courses with Pinehurst #2 as the coveted course. Courses #4 and #8 are sister courses to #2. Both of these courses are very challenging. There is also an executive par 3 course called "the cradle " for a fun day with the family. Courses #1 and #5 are very playable for the "duffer". There is a top notch spa that is booked months in advanced on the property. Also bikes are available Nd the village of Pinehurst is only a 800 Meter walk away. Though Pinehurst Resorts tries very hard to provide an atmosphere akin to an era long gone, the enjoyment of the rich historical sanctity of Pinehurst as the origin of golf depends on you and me. There are those that see Pinehurst Resort as another luxury hotel with like expectations . The hotel is a relic from a different age. The basic rooms are small. The bed is comfortable. One thing is you must request a robe rather than standard robes in rooms. So if you are expecting the NY Ritz Carlton you will be disappointed. If you are in awe being a part of the history of golf I would say you would be most appreciated. Ways we can make the experience better is to be polite. A guest reached over me for a bagel when I took an extra 5 seconds to split a English muffin for the toaster. One guest sat next to me on the deck and conducted a 90 minute conversation on their iPad. In the Carolina Dinning room enthusiastic golfers conducted their conversations with their outdoor voice. As I said an era gone by. If you golf, you can drop your clubs off at the course. A shuttle runs from the hotel to all nine courses. 1-5 clubhouse is centrally located. One really neat thing about Pinehurst is that the courses are walkable . I did #4 and #2 with Caddies. Pat and Jay, two young men who knew the course well hosted us on #4. Mark Locklear carried my clubs on #2. One thing caddies will do for the golfer is encourage course management. If you do employ a caddie for your round do not expect for them to carry a bag like Roger Dangerfied in Caddyshack. You will need to get the clubs transferred into a light bag. One thing that will make the day for everybody to be more enjoyable is to choose a tee box more akin to your skill level. One adage is 28 times the average drive or 36 times your average 5 iron for a total yardage that you and all those behind you will enjoy the day. Pinehurst #2 has wide fairways but the greens are "turtle back " so if you play the US Open tips and are hitting an approach shot from 200 yards you will be spending time and shots chipping around the green. If you spray shots from a distance the grass mounds will gobble your ball. For the sake of those behind you chose your tee box wisely. Pinehurst Resort is a place of an era gone by. If we apply the lessons of kindergarten and restore politeness in our daily lives we can bring that era back. Exceptional customer service!!! I stayed here for a recent conference and while I've been to MANY high end hotels and resorts I have to comment on the level of customer service here. Specifically Kelsey (the morning manager) and Billy or Bobby (whoever was in charge of our large group for banquet service. The property overall is very aesthetically pleasing (though I'm told they will be doing a total renovation soon, it will be interesting to see what that looks like. Tough to find a slot on the range pre round, which is is strange given the $$$ spent. Clubhouse staff likely under stress due to COVID, but not welcoming at all. Not what I would have expected. Wow! My son and I joined a group of friends for a week of golf at the cradle of American golf. While the golf didn't disappoint I have to say the overall experience is why I'm writing this. From the second we stepped on the property we were greeted with smiles and southern hospitality. The staff at the door were always friendly and holding the door or ensuring your bags and clubs got where they were supposed to be. Next came the staff at the desk and they wanted to make sure all your questions were answered satisfactorily and the check in/out process was smooth. The breakfast was southern perfection and plentiful to fill your tank before a day of challenging golf. Once again the restaurant staff were always friendly and attentive. The resort has enough shuttles operating to ensure you never wait very long to get a ride and the drivers are friendly and make sure you get to the proper course. All in all this was a trip that my son and I will never forget and we are already looking forward to doing it again. read more

One of North Carolina's most iconic buildings, the Carolina Hotel is the centerpiece of the internationally acclaimed Pinehurst golf resort, just two hours east of Charlotte in the state's rural Sandhills region. As a guest during a recent conference, I wandered the hotel's historic halls and porches (which date back to 1901, but are in impeccable condition) enjoyed lunch and a few drinks in the comfortable Ryder Cup Lounge, and got in a morning workout at the fantastic fitness facility in the adjacent Spa. I did not, unfortunately, have the opportunity to play the famed Pinehurst #2, or any of the other renowned courses on the property. Since this is by definition a golf resort, my review will be definitively incomplete until I come back for a round, but I'll try to summarize the highlights of my stay in other regards. The Carolina Hotel is inviting and cozy, with an modest but attractive front lobby, low-ceilinged hallways, and well-maintained guest rooms. My standard room had all the comforts of home, and everything from the carpet to the bathroom were in good condition. I had a few uninvited wasps in my room upon arrival, but they were quickly and efficiently addressed by management. The lunch buffet in the Ryder Cup Lounge was excellent, and the bar had a variety of local and regional beers on tap (including a Highland beer specifically brewed for the resort). The meeting areas were spacious and comfortable, and the entire hotel was gorgeously decorated for Christmas, with trees, garland, and a small collection of gingerbread houses on display. The adjacent village of Pinehurst, just a five-minute walk from the hotel, is also wonderful, with a cute collection of shops and restaurants. But frankly, if you're not visiting for golf or (as I was) a conference, there are better resorts in North Carolina and around the Southeast -- particularly if your getaway involves young kids. I'll definitely be back for a round, and am looking forward to experiencing the full hospitality of the Pinehurst Resort when the time comes. read more

I want to thank Adam at Pinehurst No 2. I played a tournament event this weekend at two of the courses. At the end of my round on No 2 my rangefinder went missing. I reported the situation to Adam in the golf shop but had little hope of ever seeing the rangefinder again. Adam assured me he would do everything in his power to make attempts to retrieve it. Sure enough Adam located my lost rangefinder and contacted me that night as he said he would. I am incredibly thankful to Adam and his team for getting this done. I have been to pinehurst many times but had never stayed at the resort. This time i had an early meeting and decided to stay there. What a complete train wreck. They put me in a condo several miles from the resort that looks like a vintage 1970's stage set from the brady bunch. Disgusting moldy bathrooms. Single beds. Oh well thank goodness there is a yellow electric canopener (seriously???) prominently on the counter. My advice if you were given a room here would be to leave and try the marriott courtyard. At least it is a real hotel. That venting aside - dinner in the ryder cup grill was outstanding. I also took a walk through the proshop - amazing variety of merchandise and very helpful staff. Hopefully others experience will be better but i cannot even give this one star due to the room. I will try to post pictures. read more

Went and played number 2 and number 8. Contrary to what the starters may tell you, make sure to take an extra club on most greens as short is almost always bad. In terms of the various hotel options...it is VERY important to stay in the Carolina hotel. We had reserved a room in one of the condos and it was HORRIBLE. so bad that we had to go back and ask to be transferred. The Carolina hotel is a bit old, but the rooms are in good shape and nice vibe. The staff was all very nice and pleasant and quite accommodating. We ate at the Ryder cup room and the deuce and both were really good as well as the breakfast at the Carolina room. Pro shop is amazing at pinehurst 2 but the shop in the hotel is also good (Vic Is really great). Only reason for 4 star and not 5 is that 1. Squalid state of the condo we first got and 2. Shuttle to the course the second day took nearly 20 minutes. read more

The Carolina hotel was above and beyond. From walking in to leaving the doors, someone is always there to say hello and ask how your day is going. The rooms are nothing special, but they are cozy and the beds are so comfortable. I love the large bathrooms, and all the fixings they have in the room. In room coffee maker, blow dryer and bathroom fixins. They have tea in the afternoons with this amazing coconut citrus house tea or a variety, along with cookies. A great coffee shop, two awesome golf/gift shops, a spa, The Carolina Room dining which has a delicious breakfast buffet with a piano player! Everything from the bar, to the hosts, to the people at the front desk are so sweet, kind and make you feel at home. I loved sitting on the porch each night in our rocking chair and just taking in the sights. Being from CA, where everything is rushed, it sure was nice to stay there and slow things down a bit. We are really looking forward to our next visit! It's for sure a must for any golfers, those who just want to relax and unwind, and even for those who love history! What a beautiful place at Christmas! This was a nice quick weekend getaway to celebrate the holidays with an organization that we are members of. WOW! the holiday decorations are the best. You walk in the door and you really feel the spirit of Christmas. The staff was very attentive for all of the events that we had during our time there. When we got in our room, one of the main light bulbs was out. We called the front desk, within minutes someone was there the change the light bulb. And it was service with a smile. We were in the main hotel, so we saw a lot of vistors coming through just to view the decor, and it was a site to behold. Still picture really don't do it justice. If you can go to Pinehurst resdort during the holiday season it will be worth your time, it will definitely get you in the sprirt for the holidays! read more

I've been coming here for years and they surprise me every time. I came here with my family for our yearly 4th of July visit to see my mother. When we checked in they upgraded us to a villa. When we walked into the villa it was huge and beautiful. Unfortunately with two kids we needed a bathtub and the separate sun room we usually put the baby's crib in. We went backed and asked if they could move us to our regular room. After a couple of minutes James came to talk to me and said he would find me the type of room I needed. He got the job done and we were very happy. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. After a long first day we ordered room service and couldn't finish. Try the sticky wings and Carolina burger(it's my gout cheat meal). The breakfast is just as good. Biscuits and gravy and pancakes are my go to breakfast. Staff is friendly and always say hello and will stop what they are doing to get the elevator or hold the door. Southern hospitality at its finest. My daughter has a crazy nap schedule and they always clean the room right after she's done with her nap. Pool area and spa are just as good. My first visit to Pinehurst as a non-golfing wife has been lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful. The nostalgia and history are rich. You don't have to be a golfer to appreciate the grandeur and heritage of this, American golf birthplace. The main hotel is steeped in classic golf themed decor. However the nod to the likes of Olmstead (famous architect) and Annie Oakley (famous sharpshooter) do not go unnoticed. My visit to the spa met and exceeded expectations of a well appointed serene venue with attentive and courteous staff. Despite the age of this iconic place, the appointments are perfect for a relaxing visit, complete with state of the art fitness center, variety of food choices at on site restaurants, comfortable rocking chairs throughout, and courtesy shuttles from place to place. Soothing Southern accents and sweet tea abound. You're invited to sit a spell - as long as your heart delights. The fellas may pine for the challenge of the golf courses - and I am in awe of the magical options including the famed "Cradle"- but for me, my happy place is meandering among the beautiful nature scenes of the resort and leisurely resting my bones on the front porch of the hotel. The golfers play ground! Pinehurst is among the best places to stay and play golf in the US. 9 golf courses are apart of the resort. They host the USKids Teen World and World tournaments each year along with many other events from Pro, Pro Am, Senior to Junior tournaments and everything in between. The locals are friendly and really know how to show some hospitality. There are plenty of places to sleep on the resort or few other places around too. Either way, everything is very close and easy to access. My son played #8 (the centinnial) golf course this year in competition. Among the toughest, besides #2, to play. The course was built in 1996 and it replaced a shooting range. Interested story behind that. Anyways, the course is Bermuda grass, very fast and hard to predict. Makes for some good competition. We love this place and hope to be back for many years to come to play all the other courses. read more

Great facility. Great golf, great accommodations and very customer centric service. The only reason this not a 5 star review is...this is my third trip here and the pace of play on number 2. The first two times it was close to 5 hours. This time 5 1/2+. Totally unacceptable. It really ruins what should be a great experience. Other courses we fine. read more

Room was moist and smelled like mold. Even the sheets were damp feeling. For a price tag like this, I'd highly recommend looking elsewhere for lodging. read more

I didn't go for the golf so can't comment on that other than the courses are beautiful. The outdoor pool is great. Good food and servers. I love the spa. Pricey, but the experience is supreme! read more
