We love this resort. The staff are amazing Felix was a gracious and informative host and he went out of his way to make us feel at home. Our room was incredible and comfortable. Wonderful history and the conference that we are attending has amazing food. We had their roasted ham one evening with a wonderful salad and an incredible sauce. The next day we had a fried chicken dinner with a black pepper gravy Greens. Potato salad. Green beans and the house pickled beets. Sugar snap peas. Carrots. My husband and I were a bit underwhelmed during our stay here last week. If you're looking for some serious relaxation or a bit of luxury, I'd honestly suggest staying elsewhere. If you're purely looking for a golf escape, this may be the right place for you. We are accustomed to staying at Ritz Carlton properties and were disappointed that the price of this resort did not seem to equate to its value, unlike their properties. A few examples: - The spa did not live up to my expectations. There is nowhere to sit to relax that is cool and calm. You can either wait around the noisy pool or in the area where the sauna is which naturally is quite warm. The actual treatment I received there was fine but not great. - My husband and I golfed at No. 2 and while the course was beautiful and in great condition, we were very disappointed by the pace of play. Our round somehow took 6 1/2 hours and we found ourselves waiting at almost every tee box, sometimes for several groups to tee off. You would think such a renowned golf course would be managed better. We ended up being late to our dinner that night because we never expected our round of golf to take almost 7 hours. - Our room overlooked the pool area and we were awoken at 7:15 AM by at least an hour of leaf blowing. I understand they want to do this when guests aren't around, but it was a very unwanted wake-up call on our vacation. We were on the top floor and it was still loud enough to wake my husband, who is a very deep sleeper. - While most of the staff was helpful and nice, the woman who works at the customer relations desk needs a serious attitude adjustment. She was the second person I dealt with upon my arrival and put a very bad taste in my mouth with her clippiness and unprofessional behavior. I later observed her being very cordial to other (male) guests on several occasions, so I can only assume my treatment may have had something to do with my gender and we would have had more success had I sent my husband over. - The bill we received at check-out was very difficult to understand. The staff even had so much difficulty explaining their itemization to me that they had to call us back several hours after our departure to explain. I enjoyed the Carolina Hotel itself. Our room was a nicely appointed corner room with a comfortable walk-in shower and our request for an additional mini fridge was granted. The dining options at the hotel were also good - we enjoyed dinner at the 1895 Grille and the Carolina Ballroom was nice for both breakfast and dinner. For a much better venue and value, I'd recommend a stay at Kiawah Island. read more

I went to the Dining Room at the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst, NC. Our server was Randy, yes with a y lol. He was the best and made us feel very special. The food was incredible. I had the Lobster Tail and being from Boston let me tell you I was not disappointed. The Maitre d' Craig was so nice and all around such a delight!! I really wanted my family to enjoy our experience at Pinehurst. However, it turned out bad and I felt I really needed to share what we went through. First, if you have a family or are younger, this place is not for you. It's not very family friendly and it has a very stuffy feeling to it. I'm okay with higher end places and places like the four seasons and ritz carlton you come to expect that a little bit. At Pinehurst it was just odd. People that worked there seemed like they would do everything they could to disappear whenever you would go up to the front desk. The room: The room had a TERRIBLE bed. It sunk in the middle and it was way too soft. In addition, our room had a broken air conditioner that kept going on and off every two minutes with a huge "bang" each time! Made it tough to sleep. The pool: The pool looked like it was falling apart. It needs some serious updating and it looked a little dirty too. Not good. The hotel: The carpets were all worn out and looked bad. It looks like it was last updated around twenty years ago and needed to be updated about ten years ago. We were planning on staying for several days but we got up early the next morning and left. read more

The resort is lovely. Very inviting lobby area. The bellman and valet guys are quick to greet you and help you get situated in your room. The Restaurants. The Carolina Room is very top notch, fantastic food, servicing breakfast a la cart and dinner both outstanding! Everything you would expect from an elegant restaurant such as that. The Ryder Cup Lounge is casual located off the lobby and a great place for more everyday meals (club sandwiches, ohh-pretzel panini-mmm) and delish cocktails. I enjoy the decor and feel of the new space. The 91st Hole is also a nice breezy dining experience located in the Clubhouse. Think burgers and Fries with fabulous views. The 230 guest room accommodations are nicely appointed and newly updated with elegance to meet the 4-Diamond standard. The outdoor pool area is beautiful and has a poolside bar for your bevy needs with plenty of lounge chairs for sunning after or before enjoying a round of devil ball on their 8 golf courses with No. 2 being the most special Champion and Legend forming Pro Courses. The Spa, well it isn't The Greenbrier, but, it's very nice. I personally liked that they have a volunteer co-ed treatment waiting area because after all, I was there getting a couples massage so seeing my man before in his white fluffy slippers and robe while sipping on some pink tea or lemonade thingy gave me a chuckle. The message was wonderful and afterward I didn't even need to sit in the sauna or steam room but I did just because they had one (no worries, this room is non co-ed). The message therapists were really fantastic. The Fitness area, I think their fitness facility is pretty stellar. They have a large Nautilus room with free weights (Personal training sessions available 50 min for $110) and a separate yoga / Pilate's room which will run you the same price for private lessons.They also do body fat analysis and golf conditioning programs but can't say I've ever tried any of these personally. My friend used to manage the Fitness and Spa here so I know they were all led by a seasoned fitness and health professional. A fantastic destination for a wedding, a special celebration or just weekend getaway. Although the Resort is spectacular my heart will always belong to The Holly Inn because it holds my greatest memories. read more

This review is for the spa: I have been here 2 or 3 times now, and I will say the spa is average- and that may be generous. I really enjoy the "quiet room" where you can lounge in the chaise chairs and read a good book, jump in the jacuzzi, steam room, or sauna. The big indoor pool is nice as well. However, the services I've had there are the problem. I've had a facial, which was average. Then I had a haircut-- which was a huge mistake! I asked for layers and ended up getting 2 distinct layers. My hair was uneven. Definitely not worth what I payed for--I paid a ridiculous amount for a mediocre cut. read more

I like Pinehurst. It's quaint, charming and the little village is nice. Further, the golf is great. That said, management needs to get their act together. I'm not sure what's happening with staff but you can tell they're unengaged, overworked and unhappy. They need people and then those people need to perform. The shuttle service has been bad. Food service is unbelievably slow and to top it off they lost my clubs twice. I'd recommend to anyone that you skip this place until after 2024 and hope they re-tool. read more

Today's was my mother's birthday, she and 3 friends went to the hotel for brunch after lunch at 1 pm, in the Ryder's cup restaurant. What an absolute disgrace to the Hotel, coffee cold, eggs Benedict cold and delivered-to the table by the manager, when the three ladies complained about everything that was ordered to their table, he turned and did nothing. Amazing a hotel with so much history, famous, to not care to the people that come for special occasions. I have to say these ladies have lived in the area for 25 years and have watched the quality of everything go to pot. What a shame, when no one cares, business get to big to care to those who makes them good! Typical of big corporations that forget the clients! Stayed here for my cousin's wedding and it was a wonderful experience! Overall the resort was charming, comfortable, and had great customer service. It made for a great mini getaway! Dining - We had meals at the Ryder Cup Lounge as well as the catering department for the wedding and Brunch. Ryder Cup was great! I definitely recommend the crab cake sliders - one of the best I've ever had. The wedding food was delicious too. Spa - This resort is primarily for avid golfers but if you aren't a golfer (like me) definitely go pamper yourself at the spa. The facilities are fantastic - separate gender locker rooms with steam room, sauna, and whirlpool. There is also a public lap pool and whirlpool while you wait for your treatment. Accommodations - Room was fabulous. Spacious, clean, and comfortable. Free internet in each room also! read more

Planned a golf trip for years- made reservations months in advance. I tried to play No 2 and no 4. Both extremely oversold. No 4 took 6 hours to play. No 2- I made it to hole 7 in 3.5 hours and was told I couldn't finish. I was refunded the extra fee for #2, and when I complained to the manager I was told I would be compensated with another trip. That was 6 months ago and I have not heard anything from them. Hotel is ok and the food at the Carolina is very good, but this is a trip for golf and I am extremely disappointed in how I have been treated. read more

Of course I have to give it five stars - it's a world class resort. I stayed a few days here recently on business and have to say it is top notch. Played Pinehurst #1 and was wowed by the facilities, conditions, history and the staff. The courses (all 8) can be very pricey, but this is Pinehurst. As for the Carolina Hotel - what a step back into history. The corridor walls are lined with loads of historical photos and memorabilia - very interesting. The entire facility is quite elegant and caters to whatever you need - almost. Breakfast in the dining room was fantastic. A huge selection of items, spectacular setting and a piano player to start your day. I had a wonderful stay and would recommend it to anyone. A couple small items, though. No in room coffee. Call room service or dress and go downstairs to get a cup for about $4. Also be prepared to spend handsomely for lunch and/or drinks in one of the hotel side bar areas. I found that taking a short walk to the town square, a couple blocks away, was well worthwhile in regard to both cost saving and a more casual setting. There's a reason that Pinehurst is a 4 Diamond resort and I would suggest a visit, even if you are not staying there. read more

I had a really great "champions" massage here, with hot stones, and a nice foot scrub. It was very relaxing, and my massage therapist was very sweet and very good at what she does. The spa itself is a little lackluster; I mean, it's nice, but not nearly as nice as other spas I've been to. It's quite small, the pool isn't heated, and I felt that it wasn't missing that quality that really made you feel spoiled. I found the staff to be the worst I've ever encountered at a spa - no smiling, reluctantly helpful . . . Still, the massage was great, if not a tad overpriced! read more

To: Mr. Tom Pashley President Pinehurst Resort Pinehurst, NC 28372 Dear Mr. Pashley, Our Oct 8-11 experience at Pinehurst #2 was in a word HORRIBLE. I had not played Pinehurst since you redid #2... lots of anticipation for this my third trip in the last 25 years. I was looking forward to another expensive but "worth it" experience/trip to Pinehurst. We were scheduled to play #2 two times and #8 two times... the first round on #2 was our tournament practice round. The last three rounds were the actual tournament rounds. The tournament had a significant purse for the PGA professional in each foursome and in-kind merchandise credits for the winning amateurs teams. Wow!!! On our first round at # 2 we walked off the course on the 12th hole... after waiting ON EVERY SHOT... ten holes took 3 hours... we gave up on the possibility of an enjoyable experience that day. We never even saw a ranger... making one of the more anticipated golf experiences of the year... THE WORST GOLF EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. While waiting shot after agonizing shot we tried to count how many rounds of golf the individuals in our foursome had played at USGA AND PGA championship venues over the last 20-30 years and it was well over 500. We all agreed NOTHING COMPARED TO THE PITIFUL EXPERIENCE WE WERE ENCOUNTERING ON THE FIRST TEN HOLES of PINEHURST # 2, and it was certainly very different than our previous trips to Pinehurst. While standing on the first tee I heard via the starters radio that a walkon "resort threesome" and eight year old child were to be jammed in front of us with no caddy. I asked the ranger why they didn't have a caddy to help them along after seeing all three of them hit there drives deep into to the waste areas and tee up a second ball. His comment and I quote was "Just worry about yourselves and we will take care of others you are not required to take a caddy. He then radioed someone and indicated that they should alert security for a player was questioning his authority. Fortunately the threesome soon got it together and played fast enough to also wait on every shot. Unfortunately this Japanese threesome and child spoke absolutely no english. This actually created a very unsafe situation, when after they waved us through on # 12 one of our golfers hit a 260 yard drive that hit one of the walkup "resort threesome" Japanese players directly in the leg on the fly. If it had hit the child we would all be talking to lawyers. Apparently they don't pay attention in Japan after waving a group through and they certainly didn't understand the word fore. From there it went down hill with a Japanese man who could not communicate wanting to physically attack us after he waved a towel SEVERAL times for us to play through, as one of his players was now off somewhere looking for a restroom. Our caddy Patrick ran up and double checked to make sure it was okay with them for us to hit, as it was their idea for us to play through not ours. Their lost "looking for a restroom player" finally arrived behind us just after the shot hit his partner. He was actually standing 20 yards behind our tee when the Japanese player was hit. After two great rounds at #8 we go to warm up at Pinehurst #2 driving range to find all four (4) of our bags are SOAKING wet... so wet in fact that golf gloves in the interior compartments of our bags are completely wet as are the grips on every club! Unbelievable!!! Again the "pros were apologetic but stone faced. You could feel that they knew the place was broken organizationally and their was little they could do to fix something as broken as this... After teeing off on the 10th hole of #2 with clubs that had been given to the staff at Pinehurst # 8 the day before PERFECTLY DRY and returned TO US FOR THE FINAL ROUND OF THE TOURNAMENT AS SOGGY AS A WET SPONGE... we played with the sun shining on our wet gloves, equipment and frowns and finished the back nine in 2 hours a ten minutes. We almost got a real rhythm going but... At the turn once again things in the control of the Pinehurst Revenue Factory "Pros" destroyed the day. On the first tee and our 10th hole we quickly realized Matt the "Pro" and his crew of revenue generating bandits had lied to me and were at it again! There were three "Pros" and two Rangers standing around on the first tee. Why? Because the Pinehurst brand destroying revenue factory had just inserted 5 groups of "RESORT FOURSOMES" between our tournament groups as we made the turn. We were the fifth foursome waiting or playing on the first hole and played the last nine waiting on every shot AGAIN... Where were the Rangers what were they doing!!! It was obvious to everyone on the course that there was nothing to be done... as the PGA professionals had again jammed revenue into a tee sheet that could not handle it. Mar, 2009 was my second trip out to Pinehurst. I went on the Acura package and this was a deal that was hard to pass up. The package was 2 nights 3 days at the resort, 3 rounds of golf on any of 7 courses (#2 costs extra), breakfast and dinner included for 2 days, $300 gift card to the room, box of Pro V1s, use of the spa facility, and a 4-hour ride in a new Acura. Let me start with accommodations. They were fabulous. My room was bigger this year than the previous year. King size bed with flat screen tv, walk-in closet, lounge chairs, and plenty of space. Golf was fabulous even though it was wet and raining. For the second year in a row, it rained, but not as bad as last year. Furthermore, I have been told it was atypical for the time of year. This year I played 6, 7, and 8. Everyone I talked to said these three courses are harder than #2 the championship course that Payne Stewart won his Open on. The food was fantastic again. We ate at the 1895 Grille and The Carolina. Service was great as usual. The spa was awesome. The interesting thing is that I got the same person who worked on me last year! More on people in a bit. The facilities are separated between men and women but come together in the waiting area where there is a lap pool. We didn't have time to use the Acura since the weekend was so packed with activities, although last year I got to visit Southern Pines. Now, the people. Hospitable through and through. One thing I noticed as I talked to staff was that they were the same people from last year. This is certainly something you don't see often. Pinehurst has a high retention rate. Many are seniors who retire in the area and go work for Pinehurst. If you are thinking about making the trip, talk to Tiffani Shepard who is the Social Sales Supervisor. She helped me book the trip for our group and was very helpful in making sure our trip and itinerary worked out. She definitely made sure that all my questions were addressed before we got there! read more

When I first came into the room it was clear it was only half cleaned. The sheer was wet from the last shower, used towels were in a pile, garbage was not taken out, footjoy box sitting out and receipts and the old key were on the counter. I really only wanted to get something to eat and go to bed because I had worked and driven all day, but I called down and asked for another room. They could not get me one but offered a $50 gift card if I would leave for a while. That was fine and nice. But when I got back to the room the only thing that was done was wiped down the shower and replace towels. Garbage and other stuff still there. At this point I am not happy, I called down and they just did not say anything really. Just bumbled around. So, this morning I go to take a shower, No soap. So, I get in the shower with the shampo. And then I see the soap, it's wet sitting on top of the last guests wet wash cloth. Yuck Cleaner rooms are to be had at any spring break destinations read more

I stayed at the Pinehurst Resort for one night during a recent conference. Although I did not have very much time to tour the grounds or play golf, I can attest to the high quality quality of the accommodations and resort staff. The buildings are decorated inside and out to exude southern comfort and charm; the main building has large wraparound porches with rocking chairs, complete with gentleman sipping drinks (mint juleps?) and smoking cigars. Happily smoking is prohibited inside. I stayed in one of the "Villa" rooms on the grounds. The room was very spacious and very comfortable. The room had a couple of comfy chairs and a table, along with a reasonably large LCD TV. The bed had a feather top and I slept like a baby. The bathroom was gigantic and had a great shower room, definitely a plus. I'm posting this as a 5 star review simply out of respect for the main attraction: Pinehurst is billed as a first class golf resort and I did not play any golf while I was at the resort. You'll like the rooms, though, that's for sure. read more

Electric car drivers heads-up: Pinehurst is an hour from any superchargers, and there are but two (45 miles per hour charge rate) chargers at the hotel, one of which has been of commission for months. Ditto the set-up near the main clubhouse. And two really slow chargers in the center Village that over the course of a few hours will trickle enough to get you the superchargers. In short, there's growing competition for substandard EV infrastructure. read more

I can't say much about the overall resort because I only went there to ice skate. The building and golf course seemed wonderful from the outside looking in. There were still Christmas decorations up and I was wowed by how beautiful and royal everything looked. Even the furniture itself all had a vintage appeal to it. That and having personnel dedicated to just opening the doors for you when you enter made it feel very luxurious. Now... the skating rink... From its description on their website, I thought it was going to be a real skating rink. A big rink. With actual ice. Well it wasn't. It's some synthetic matting that doesn't feel like skating on ice at all. It's so much harder because it's so slick that you can't push off the ground so you just scrape the ground instead. The only way to get anywhere is to essentially walk around. I was really disappointed. More than the experience but that my beau and I paid 10$ each to be totally underwhelmed and that the website was so so soooo misleading. While we were there, at least 15 other people came and left and we managed to outstay them all and we were only there for maybe thirty minutes, so that just tells you what they thought about the experience. We stopped by the coffee shop in the lobby so that we could browse the area but were also underwhelmed with the coffee. I will never be back for the ice skating but I may be back to stay a night or to golf or to eat at the restaurant. read more

Amazing spa. We were staying at a resort for a wedding, but I think I would make a return trip just for that massage. Beautiful grounds, historic setting, and homey rooms make it an ideal vacation spot. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and if you reserve as part of a wedding or business group, the prices are not bad either. There are also cute shops and restaurants in walking distance from everywhere and plenty of opportunities to golf. One hiccup: don't order room service at the Holly Inn. Otherwise, I cannot imagine a better place to stay. read more

Filthy! Disgusting hotel gym that has literally not been cleaned in maybe a year. Cobwebs and mounds of dust and skin cells, machines all covered in dry sweat and filth, disgusting carpet with many stains. I altered the management about this two weeks ago and have just returned to find that still no one has cleaned! The resort has really gone down hill in recent years. Treatments are over priced and mediocre and facilities are worn out and GROSS! A real shame. read more

This is now our family favorite for vacation and we don't play golf! We love the gorgeous inn, relaxing by the pool, the delicious food and most of all the STAFF. There's no finer customer care than the Carolina Inn at Pinehurst. The staff is simply incredible. My father is in a wheelchair and he is a different person when we bring him to Pinehurst. He eats. He goes out. He relaxes and enjoys. At the Carolina Dinning Room they know him. Willie actually cut his meat for dinner which helps him eat his food. Linda in the dinning room checks on him and talks to him so sweetly. It makes him feel like he has resumed normal living again, I have only good words for Pinehurst Resort, the Carolina Inn and the Carolina Dinning Room. It's a terrific place. Very close to Raleigh Durham and the airport. Check their website for specials. PS--if you do play golf, you will love this world famous golf course! :) In the dinning room, try the corn bisque, the fresh fish and the lobster/crab roll. An inch of dust behind the alarm clock, a dried contact lens on bathroom floor, splashed toothpaste or shaving cream on frame of bathroom mirror. Found garbage on the desk chair which tells me it was never moved to be cleaned. Even the little table in the bathroom had dirty wet rag marks on it. I was lucky to do both the Greenbrier & Pinehurst both in the same month. The golf is better in Pinehurst, more of it, all beautiful & challenging. The course conditions at Greenbrier were better. Get's less play. Greenbrier is a tad more expensive. The folks at Greenbrier were all top notch. The culture of customer service at Greenbrier is unbeatable. To Pinehurst's credit they just called to say they located my camera I left in a thunderstorm and were sending it no charge to my house! Great service. It's tough to go wrong with either. If you want to be pampered go to WVA. If you want a outstanding golf experience with plenty of creature comforts Pinehurst is wonderful. I'd stay in the main hotel. read more

The resort chose not to refund our $300 deposit per golfer due to Hurricane Dorian possibly affecting the course. They didn't inform us until the day that we were supposed to be on property. This was for our group flying in the from West coast. We wouldn't have had time to cancel the flights not to mention have any alternates golf reservations. Very inconsiderate to future potential guests of the resort. Be careful when booking golf trips during any potential hurricane season as you will never see your deposit. read more

My daughter and I visit Pinehurst annually for a golf school . Best time spent !!! Great golf feel - everyone you meet is into the game - my daughter finished the first day by sinking a 15 foot putt for eagle on the eighteenth to card a 79 - then off to the pub to celebrate and retell the round.
