This was one of the most comfortable and relaxing stays I've ever had. I really enjoyed meeting and spending time with Rafael and Leslie, and the food was amazing! If I were able to afford it, I would aim to come more often than once a year. This was such a comfortable and relaxing stay with complementary wine and gorgeous views. The owners and staff are wonderful people to meet and the food for breakfast and dinner here is outstanding. Great old house. Our room, the Tiger Lily was spacious with a great jacuzzi. Bed was a bit squeaky, though. The hosts are very friendly and a joy to talk to. Pet friendly! Lots of interesting nooks and crannys to explore both inside and outside the Inn. Lovely views of the mountains. Great place to get away and relax......Appalachian trail/Blue Ridge Pkwy nearby with many great wineries, too. Breakfast was good, but could use some choices rather than be served only one type of meal. Nice front porch. read more

Disappointed with our stay. We came and couldn't find anyone to help us. They were not personable at all, not the people the previous reviews speak of. Never saw them. The room was sort of dirty, the chairs had stains in them, didn't even want to set my things on them. This is not a high end B&B- for the price, I'd go somewhere else! read more

This was our second visit to The Mark Addy Inn. We spent our 43rd (2014) and 47th (2018) anniversary there. I cannot say enough about the place. It is comfortable, friendly and most import for us, was that it was very clean. The food was - no let's say IS excellent. We chose The Mark Addy in an attempt to 'recharge our batteries' after a very hectic 10 days prior vacation(?) attending a National Softball tournament in Myrtle Beach. Just sitting on the front porch was the necessary environment to recharge. We just sat out there, viewing the mountains of Skyline Drive and reading (I'm not a big fan of just sitting but I could not resist. I actually was able to finish reading TWO books that I had brought.) Leslie and her staff made us feel like a part of the family. She even remembered our anniversary and had a very special little surprise for us. Anyone looking for a quiet respite from the everyday grind need to spend some time at The Mark Addy. If all goes well, we will be back there for our 50th!! read more

My boyfriend and I like to take weekend trips to B & Bs in the area (we live in DC). They are a great way to get out of town for a quick weekend. We picked the Mark Addy because they had a great package deal: free dinner, free 3 hour bus to drive us to the breweries, and 6 coupons for local breweries and wineries. The owner, Leslie, and her husband (who does all the cooking) are both great. The meals are amazing and the rooms are beautiful. We stayed in Tiger Lily, with the big tub, and we loved it. Giant bed, soft, but comfortable. We got a bottle of wine and chocolate on arrival as part of our package. Their son owns the company that does the brew tour, He was playing a gig at Wild Wolf Brewery that night, so he brother drove us. He was great. And we got to hear the band at Wild Wolf, which was awesome. They are dog friendly and have two little pomeranian rescues who wander the property and are adorable and well-behaved. The whole experience was great, we will definitely be back! read more

We stayed here for our wedding weekend/mini-moon. It was absolutely beautiful and we got some great wedding getting-ready pictures! We loved the view and the beautiful gardens! I would highly recommend this place to everyone, especially anyone who is looking for a beautiful, historic place to stay. Found this little piece of heaven and so glad! We went to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and got the romantic package. We stayed in the Kensington room, which had a stunning view. The room was clean, large, and the bed was really comfortable. There was coffee every morning, which we drank while sitting on the front porch. The breakfast both mornings was delicious and more than ample in amount. Dinner was park of our package. It was delicious! The staff was super friendly. We loved the pets roaming around. The old sounds of an old house were charming. We can't wait to go back! read more

This Inn was in a great location for everything we wanted to do! Close to hiking, waterfalls, wineries, breweries, distilleries - yet far enough away from everything to be extremely peaceful. For a reasonable fee we were very pleased know that our doggie could join us! Our dog was also treated like a guest, complete with bed, treat, and food bowls. Our accommodations were on the first floor. We had our own exterior door and porch - which came in handy for walking the dog in the middle of the night without disturbing the other guests. We also enjoyed the pool room out back and hung out there each evening before going to bed. Breakfast was lovely and bright and just the right amount. Like others have said, I'm not sure how folks can leave a negative review of this place. We highly recommend this Inn and will be back when we need to blow off a little steam. read more

Room Yikes, I feel like the room was decorated with stuff from a thrift store dumpster. Bathroom Smelly, as if someone was going #2 all the time. Tub was dirty. Property In general, the place needs a major overhaul: as in tear it down and rebuild it. Shoot, it would have helped if they just cut the grass and tossed the rotten porch furniture. Food Hah! Nothing gourmet about his place. The breakfast was cold and the dinner special was out. Have fun with your half muffin and fresh cold eggs. You can get a better night sleep and free breakfast from cheaper hotels...oh, but you are paying for the fact that it is a B&B. read more

This was our first time experiencing the world of B&B's, and I can't think of one that would have been better. The owners were awesome, their staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and the scenery......... It's really second to none. Had the opportunity to go to several of the surrounding wineries and breweries and really enjoyed it. This is a beautiful area with some beautiful people. Would definitely recommend any one that was interested in getting away for a couple of days (and having some great wine!) to come to the Mark Addy! read more

The area is perfect. The inn is beautiful, and nearby a lot of wineries and breweries. The owners are great, the rooms are affordable and charming, and during the week it was quiet and restful. I spent two days there with my mom, and we were able to relax, and spent a lot of time out on the front porch surrounded by flowers and Baby, the house parrot. read more

I booked this for a surprise for my husbands birthday in October 2008, It cost 250.00 plus tax a night. I booked it well in advance, all of the b&b require a two night stay. They also offer dining but they were completely booked to a company event so we had to travel to find a place to eat. When we arrived back we had to walk past the company event to get to our room, it was late and they were a little noisy. The room was freezing and no way to turn up the heat and the water in the tub was lukewarm. The breakfast good but I expected more after having paid so much .No we will not be returning and no I would not recommend this B&B to anyone based on our stay there. I have stayed at better and for a much better price with warm water to shower and heat to stay warm! read more

I have just returned from a two night stay in this B&B and I am so pleased with the attention and service, that I couldn't wait to write. The place has a lot of character and charm and the people working at the Inn are all very friendly and respectful. From the moment I made my reservation, and I needed to make some changes, they were very graceful and helpful. Our breakfast experience was overall positive. They make sure you have enough of everything, making several rounds around the dining area for people to get a refill on their coffee and muffins. The room we stayed in, Elena, was very spacious and comfortable, and so was the bed. It has access to a beautiful porch, and an alcove area --which also features a daybed. The housekeeping service was very good. We made it back to a clean and groomed bedroom. We had some interesting conversations with the owners, making us feel right at home. They also gave us great advice on places to visit and dine, which helped us make the most of our experience. All in all, it was a great experience and I am definitely coming back! read more

We chose the Mark Addy Inn as a place to reside when we attended a wedding in Charlottesville back in July. We needed a place to stay which was close enough to the wedding venue but nice enough where we can feel comfortable and enjoy ourselves in a classy and romantic setting. The Mark Addy Inn went far beyond what we had expected. We were greeted by Leslie and Rafi who were warm and welcoming. Not only did they show us around their inn, but they also gave us incredible suggestions on different vineyards, breweries, and activities to do in the area. We discovered the amazing Bold Rock Cidery. They also told us about an amazing farmers market. Rafi cooks an amazing breakfast in the mornings and has traveled all over the world so expect a delicacy. The rooms are so adorable and beautiful. Each room represents a different part of the world. Our room was Asian inspired and it was so beautiful that at times we didn't even want to leave the room. The view of the mountains on the front porch is so beautiful that you'll want to grab some of their complimentary home baked cookies and the wines that they offer and relax outside. This inn is also in a relatively great location in relation to vineyards, breweries, shops, and restaurants. There are a ton by this inn. Some locals even call it alcoholics alley. Some of the best ones are only a few minutes driving distance from the inn. We highly recommend this inn not only as a convenient place to stay, but also as a romantic getaway with convenient access to activities. read more

Gorgeous location, lovely Inn. My daughter and I stayed here for 5 days in April. The hosts are more then gracious and helpful. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the inn is a old 1800's home, with all the quirks and creaks associated with that. So keep that in mind when booking. The Windows are all new, and each room has its own heating/air conditioning unit. The breakfast each morning was 5 star, we were full until dinner-time. The owners have pets, so also keep that in mind, they were not a bother at all. Also, keep in mind the owners both smoke, but always outside, and I never once smelled it inside the inn. Some reviews I read people complained about it, but it never bothered me to catch a whiff of it from time to time outside. We also booked a driver for the day to tour the wineries/distilleries which was very helpful since by the end of the tour we could not drive! The driver was very informed of the area, and a wonderful host. The owners of the inn were always on hand to check to make sure we were doing well, and advising us as to local attractions. All in all a wonderful trip, and hospitality at its finest! read more

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Mark Addy this past weekend and had a great time! The Inn was perfectly located in between our stops in Charlottesville and Staunton, as well as all the great wineries and breweries in the area. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, but it had ample room, and the shower was unexpectedly large. The breakfasts were different each morning, and were all very tasty, especially the quiche. The owners, Leslie and Rafi were both very attentive and friendly, and made sure that we were having a great time. I would highly recommend the Mark Addy to anyone who wants a nice stay in the mountains, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We will be back as soon as we can! read more

My husband and I visit this area every year for Valentines Day and we have stayed at several different B&B's. The Mark Addy is my favorite by far. The rooms are large and comfortable, the views are spectacular and the Inn keepers are friendly and helpfull. The gourmet breakfast is excellent!!!! I asked for a bottle of wine in my room upon arrival and it was there, chilled, delicious and waiting. I recomend the Mark Addy for a quiet, romantic getaway any time of year!!! read more

Arriving coming up the driveway, you will notice the beautiful well-tended flower gardens all around the property. We had a large room(Tiger Lilly) with multiple large windows overlooking the property, a Jacuzzi tub/shower, king bed (very comfortable,) and a large sofa, & small desk and a lounge. Guests may use a small kitchen with snacks provided, ice, coffee, and refrig to store leftovers. Breakfast was simply outstanding both days--3 courses, and all delicious---best B&B food we've had anywhere. Next time, I'm eating dinner there too. Leslie & Rafi are great caring hosts, who want your experience to be as good as possible. Near many wineries, breweries, and a cidery. Other restaurants nearby in Nellysford or Lovingston don't offer much. The public can eat at the nearby golf course's cafe. Definitely a good mountain retreat, and worth a return trip. read more

We enjoyed 2 days at the Mark Addy , and we delighted with it. We chose The Kensington room, which was comfortable, light and airy ,and gave us superb views of the mountains. This place was terrible. It does not look like it does in the professional shots on its website, which some great photographer with an eye for PhotoShop did. The paint is peeling, the furniture on the lawn is old and gross, and our room was not thoroughly clean (pet hair) so no, we did not put a tip in the 'housekeeper tip" envelope (don't most innkeepers do the upkeep?) We had high hopes for the Groupon we purchased. Basically, the Groupon advertised wine and chocolates in room (a skimpy four chocolates) and vouchers for area wineries and breweries. We quickly found out that most of these vouchers were 10% off coupons for purchases only. We heard "voucher" and thought "free entrance/free wine tasting," which MOST PEOPLE WOULD THINK! The only decent coupon in the bunch was to Wild Wolf brewery down the road, which we enjoyed at lunch time. The innkeepers tried to cajole us into having dinner at the inn, bragging that they were the best meal in sixty miles---seriously? Better than ANYWHERE in Charlottesville? Hard to believe. Plus their little dogs scamper all around the dining room, and I know it's a bring-your-pet-it's-cool kind of inn, but I don't want dogs running around a formal dining room while I'm eating. We came back early from a wine tasting and the housekeeper was in our room---we really just wanted to come back, take a nap, and enjoy each other, and we were told we could go sit on the porch while she finished. This isn't what we paid the money to do. Plus the porch is tired and run down looking with soiled furniture which is sad because the views are spectacular. I have seen the owner responses on other travel sites to reviews like this and he lashes out at anyone who puts down the place or didn't have a good time there, saying they should have confronted him. There were so many complaints we would have confronted him with that I'm sure they would have told us to leave and not given us any money back. There are plenty of bed and breakfasts in the area you can go to other than this one. read more
