We stayed in the Equestrian Room, which had one of the most beautiful bedrooms I have ever stayed in, with a homey smaller room immediately adjacent so that my daughter could have a little privacy. The complimentary breakfast served the next morning was better than any restaurant. A mammoth omelet that was as light as it was flavorful was complimented by mouth watering blueberry stuffed french toast that could have been a meal (or dessert) all by itself. Our hosts Iris and Patrick were polite, helpful, friendly but never intrusive. We had a corner room in the 15th tier looking out the back with mountains in the distance and hotel parking lot below. Bed is firm and comfortable with crisp cotton sheets. Only reason I gave it a 4 star is due to the free breakfast which is really not much better than no breakfast at all. Surprising as they have a small restaurant so you'd think they have the facilities to provide a more acceptable version. There's just coffee (weak), tea (hot water ran out and no one came to replace), old fruit, tubs of cereal (way too sweet) cartons of orange juice, milk and yogurt and some packaged granola bars and bagels, much more basic than most chain motels. Location is great however, right in the middle of town and there is free parking in a lot behind the hotel.

An old Presbyterian church was renovated back into a large home with four rooms on the second floor. Cheryl and Rob were friendly hosts who make sure you get a full meal to start the day. Visitors to Lexington themselves, as heir weekday home base is in northern Virginia, they appreciate trips out to the Shenandoah Valley as much as their guests! I would certainly recommend staying here, as I got to meet a 23 year old alum back for reunion and a couple from Australia traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The quality of the room and house was fantastic; everything was spotless and well kept. The house had all the character, quirks, and charm of a place built over 100+ years ago, but all the amenities and features of a new construction. But the big differentiator was John. He was an absolutely incredible host, always with a smile on his face and a wealth of information about the area at his disposal. He helped us set up some great adventures, had wonderful stories of the history of the town and inn, and also cooked a fantastic breakfast each morning for us. The other guests at the inn were very sociable and we walked away having made a few new friends! I also can't believe how affordable the rooms were considering the great level of service and quality. The room had all the Hampton amenities including a nice size TV, microwave, mini fridge, iron and full size ironing board, and a coffee maker. The bed was comfortable, and the room had a nice lounge chair. There was plenty of parking, and my room was in the back of the hotel (by the cabin) and the area was quiet and relaxing. The property has a lot of charm, especially the historic Cabin built in the mid-1700s, it catches the attention and is used as a special events space. The main house, Col Alto, is a beautiful Georgian-style brick home dating back to 1827. Both are rich in history and make the stay even more unique.
