It's a nice clean upscale environment. Lemonade was vey good. Service was good. The tuna tartare lacked flavor. It was a little dry, and the bread was only grilled on the presentation side. So was soft. Salad was good, chicken was tasty. Pork belly was okay, I don't like shoe string fries, they get cold fast. I complimented the home made ranch. The server asked if I wanted extra to take home with my left overs. I said yes. Wasn't expecting to pay $1 extra for that. Don't nickel and dime customers, or let them know it's extra. We had reservations for 645 pm and were told to wait for 10 minutes. "Your table is almost ready. The guests ahead of you have paid and we're waiting to clean the table." That was not true. After 35 minutes we sat down and our dinner turned out to disappointing. The server was nice but new and overwhelmed. They were late bringing out one of our meals. The seven of us were waiting for the one meal and after 20 minutes we dig in and began eating cold meals. Oh the excuses as to why it was the one fried chicken and waffle or corn meal was delayed were comical. Not good ones. "We think we burned your dinner. No, we don't know. We're very busy." The food was terrible. Not what we remember from when they first opened. Back then the food was exceptional. I'm sorry to say that the food, the service, the logistics of managing a small restaurant have suffered greatly. I hope the can turn it around. I like that they kept the Covid partitions. Jason and his wife do just that with their guests. Both times I visited, the food was incredible. The lamb hoagie and cream of celery soup both impressed me- the flavor was more than memorable! I enjoyed my experience so much I ordered the biggest container of soup to go I could and ran home to tell my honey we were going to dinner the following night at the best place I'd found in Montana for local culinary delights. Start your meal with the jalapeño corn fritters, you won't regret it! Portions here are quite large, so it makes for a great opportunity to share a dish. You can't go wrong here, all of the meals at my table were delicious, but the crowd favorite was the pork schnitzel! Make sure to finish your meal with dessert, and we had a a hard time deciding which one we wanted. They all looked delicious. I can say that you won't be disappointed with the chocolate cheesecake--yum! The co-owner stopped by our table several times to check in on the service and quality of food! Everything at the restaurant is home made and locally sourced (when available). The owners work in the restaurant; you'll find her seating guests, and him cooking! They were nominated for 1 of the top 30 Best New Restaurants in the United States! That's amazing! And such an honor! And well deserved! Isaac was our server tonight and he was incredibly attentive and very good! His entrée suggestions were spot on! The Queso dip for an appetizer was really great! Bottom line: If you find yourself in or around Billings, get a reservation and eat here. This was simply an all around great restaurant. The service, food, and atmosphere were truly excellent. FYI, the 9 tables mentioned in prior reviews is more like 17 now, as the restaurant has recently expanded. We were driving from Bozeman and called from the highway once we were certain when we would get to Billings. We were very fortunate to get a table at 7. When we arrived, we noticed the "please be patient with the staff as we are running shorthanded" note on the door. We were greeted promptly and seated at a large table. The co-owner, Jen, introduced herself and the restaurant (upscale comfort food). Her husband, Jason, is the head chef, pastry chef, and co-owner. It was hard to tell that the restaurant was short-handed, because the service was really very good! We only had a short wait to order our entrees (having decided to skip appetizers in favor of dessert!) and drinks. My wife ordered lamb meatloaf with mashed potatoes, pickled vegetables, and creamed spinach. I ordered the fried chicken with potato salad and greens (with some trepidation given that we live in the south!). Our meals came out shortly and both looked and smelled wonderful. Everything tasted great as well! We really appreciated that all of the flavors were so well balanced...the sides were every bit as delicious as the mains. My wife thought the lamb meatloaf was excellent, and she really enjoyed the pickled vegetables. I didn't need to worry about the fried chicken plate after all. The chicken was really good, perfectly crispy and moist. The potato salad had an excellent vinegary bite and the greens had no semblance of bitterness. The only minor glitch was that my wife's plate was served with rice instead of mashed potatoes (she had gotten someone else's plate who wanted rice). Both our server and Chef Jason came out to apologize and to check to see if they could bring her some potatoes. She was so happy with the taste of the lamb and mushroom gravy with the rice, she declined (and this woman loves mashed potatoes!). For dessert, my wife had cheesecake and I had peach pie filling topped with a pastry crust and ice cream. Great stuff! When Chef Jason came back out to check how our meal was, we told him we felt very fortunate to have had the chance to eat at his restaurant. I also told him he could get rid of the "shorthanded sign" on the door because his staff was really very good. I don't know when I'll be back in Billings, but I can guarantee you that I'll try to get a seat at The Marble Table should I visit again. read more
