If you're thinking about getting your hair done here, please RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN and pay…read morethe extra money at a reputable salon. I would give this place negative stars if I could. I knew what I was getting into when I chose to get my hair done here - this is a school, full of inexperienced students learning to do hair. As a teacher myself, I liked the idea of supporting a place where students were learning, and went in knowing that a master stylist would be watching over the student and making sure that my hair was done well. I made an appointment for a hair color and cut after purchasing a Groupon. The girl that did my hair was sweet and seemed to feel confident about being able to do what I wanted, but I got a little nervous when she mentioned that she was going to try a new balayage technique. As she started coloring my hair, the master stylist went to watch over other students. She came back maybe a half hour later to let my stylist know that she was doing my hair incorrectly and what should be done instead. At this point, my hair was over half done, and the master stylist gave no tips whatsoever about how to fix what had already been done, and the student made no efforts to correct it. I didn't think too much of it at the time since I couldn't see what had been done. The master stylist walked away again, this time never to return again. Once my hair was done and she washed out the bleach, the student kept saying how "gorgeous" the color was and how great it looked. She proceeded to dry my hair and curl it with a flat iron. She didn't know what to do with my bangs, and ended up curling them in a way that made them stand up on top of my head. She took me outside to take pictures for her portfolio... and after seeing what my hair looked like after I got home, I hope that poor girl didn't use those pictures for any sort of portfolio ever. My hair had no color whatsoever on the top layer, but underneath was very unevenly colored BRIGHT YELLOW. Not a nice caramel like I had asked... yellow. I was so disgusted. I found a salon that could get me in the next day to fix the damage, and even they couldn't understand what had been done or why the master stylist didn't do anything to correct it. Please do yourself a favor and never step near this place.

The best guest service experience I've ever had at a cosmetology school! Professional level work,…read moreand COVID-safe procedures! I highly recommend anyone needing any hair services to come here! Facilities: I came in for guest services (specifically for a perm and haircut). Le Jeane Academe is located within a cute Colonial Revival style building that's as charming on the inside as it is outside! The interior is very modern and spacious. All of the equipment, from styling seats to manicure tables were very new in condition. There's even a cafe inside, although it was closed when I came due to the pandemic. Hygiene: All staff wear masks and appropriate personal protective equipment. They also check your temperature when you come in. Everything that a guest would touch, from the pens to the chairs and tables were sterilized between guests. On top of this, I had an entire area of 10 styling seats to myself (and the two students and instructor, of course). The safety measures taken combined with the ample social distancing allowed me to leave with peace of mind and no anxiety about whether or not I might've contracted coronavirus. Student to Instructor Ratio: The student to instructor ratio was 2:1. While this review rates Le Jeane Academe from the point of view of guest services, I think any prospective cosmetology student should pay attention! Other schools I've been to, often have an instructor supervising 5 students, as well as floating between multiple guests. The best part is that I had one instructor dedicated to me; she didn't divide her time amongst other guests or students, and supervised my service the entire time. Quality of Work: I was extremely satisfied with the turnout of my perm and cut. The students clearly take pride in their work, and the same is true for the instructor. Of course, as students, there were a few moments when they needed help, but with an instructor dedicated to me, she was literally always available to offer help and instruction. Unlike some other schools where the students may need to call an instructor for help, at Le Jeane Academe, because all of the instructors' attention was on her students and one guest, she watched and was able to anticipate moments when the students would've had questions and show them. Not only did it probably provide better instruction, but it sped up my time here, as there was no unnecessary downtime and everything just flowed seamlessly! Conclusion: As a guest, I got professional salon quality results with my perm and haircut, with the whole visit taking about 3.5 hours, which is slightly slower than a professional salon, but much faster compared to most schools I've been to. Not too shabby, considering I only paid $48 for services that would've easily cost me 3x to 4x more at a salon!

During one 15 week period in 2018 there were 5 different esthetics teachers. They also lost their manager and a cosmetology teacher during this time. Smoking was taking place directly outside of a propped-open emergency exit and smoking breaks are taken in addition to timed/clocked out breaks. Those that don't smoke are being exposed to second-hand smoke several times per day because they are just outside the exit with the door open. Students take lunches and breaks whenever they want to be unavailable to perform a scheduled service that they do not wish to perform, which leaves students wanting to get their hours completed doing all the services that other students don't wish to do. Students are told to collect their things at 30 - 45 minutes before the end of the day and while they are still clocking hours so that the staff can leave promptly at 5:30, even turning off the lights while students are still in the classroom. Fridays esthetics' classes had no teacher other the cosmetology teacher and therefore busy with those students. Juniors who are also supposed to be tested out of every service by the end of their first 5/6 weeks but are unable to because the class schedule isn't followed. Many advanced esthetics classes are supposed to be given on Fridays, but since there is no Friday instructor it took the juniors additional time to become seniors. Services sometimes could not be performed because they did not have the supplies on hand to complete the service. This didn't happen only one time. Students have been asked/encouraged to call state representatives about proposed state laws that will affect cosmetology schools and students. The students weren't asked that they call and give their opinion. They were given a script of what to say. Not only was that inappropriate to ask of students, but anyone who wanted "extra hours" could come in and call representatives on a day the school is normally closed. This was inappropriate, unethical and unprofessional to ask students to do the political bidding of a school. Arbitrary new rules are thrown at students without any notice and make no sense, such as, students are told that they aren't allowed in the classroom unless it's teacher approved and it can only be for an hour. They are expected to be on the floor. That would be fine typically but there is no common sense factored into this rule. Sometimes all the rooms are full, all the towels and sheets are washed and dried so there is nothing to do on the floor and nowhere but the classroom to go. Raphael's is a poorly run family business that the owner, Ralph Delserone, Is only interested in making money, not in the students or the student salon customers.
