The waitress was very adept at dealing with a large group as well, though it was at times difficult to get her attention despite the bar not being very full. (Maybe they were under staffed for the night?) I liked the chill vibe here - neighborhood-y but keeping it fresh. The beer list was impressive and was displayed on a large, rotating, electric board. I've been a regular customer for years - until tonight. I called to place an order for pickup and the person that answered the phone was so rude that I will never order from this place again. When I called, there was so much background noise that he could not hear me nor could I hear him. He asked me for my order and when I tried to give it to him he yelled at me saying that "I need a name for the order". I thought he had asked for my order which is what I was trying to give him. Appetizer was amazing: fried pickles. Best I've ever had I was very excited for my burger. I was asked "pink or no pink" for how I would like it cooked. Confused I said "a little pink". The waitress looked at me and said "so pink"? There is a fine line between "PINK" and RAW. My burger was practically mooing. After a day of being snowed in, we decided to find somewhere to eat. We called a bunch of restaurants, most of them were closed except for the Main pub. Their parking lot was well-plowed even when the snow just stopped less than an hour ago, and there were already some customers. It was open seating when we went. I got the southwest burger with a side of their pub fries (they're shaped like potato chips) for $12.95. The burger was huge, I almost couldn't finish the entire thing, but it was too delicious not to eat it all. I live an hour and a half away from this restaurant and sometimes go to the Manchester area. I found this place on Yelp and now, any time I am in this area I come here. The service is wonderful, everyone who works here is just fantastic and friendly. The food & cocktails are always great. I am obsessed with the autumn salad. I ordered it on my first visit and my second visit and took one to go. I could drink the mustard vinaigrette, seriously. Best sweet potato fries I have EVER had. They're huge, crisp on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside. Definitely try them! The outdoor patio is lovely. Can't wait for my next visit. :) read more

I love having a locally-owned place like this in my town. The inside dining section is cozy, the drinks are good, and the menu is full of classic pub fare. They added a huge patio to the side of the building; despite being on a very busy street corner, it's not too noisy. I've been here a bunch of times in small groups (2-5 people). Most recently, a big group of us (12) went on trivia night (Thursday) for dinner and drinks, and it was easy to make a patio reservation. I was a little worried we would miss trivia (assuming it would be held indoors like in the past), but the host ran it right from the patio. It was perfect for a nice summer night. I was also very happy to hear that they've added a plant-based menu. I've ordered the smoked veggie burger before from the regular menu, and this time, the waitress asked if I was a vegan. She offered a plant-based menu and explained that the current chef is a vegan himself. The Bean & Avocado Burger I had was great. My husband (also vegan) had the nachos; they could have used some sort of Daiya shreds or homemade vegan cheeze to hold them together but were otherwise tasty and plentiful. I think it's really cool that the Main Pub is thinking about different dietary needs and approaching their menu with an open mind. (Now's probably the time to speak up with plant-based feedback since they have a chef who's interested in this.) In short, my biggest pros for this place are: - Great, big patio - Plant-based menu options! - Friendly, accommodating waitstaff - Fun trivia night - A Manchester institution! My only cons for this place are: - It's difficult to find open parking (even with the newly expanded parking lot) - The trivia night Onyx drink specials were nowhere near as good as the regular cocktail menu (much smaller and seemed less strong), but at only $3 a pop, I guess I can't really complain! read more

I have eaten here a couple times and have finally given up. Food is just not good. I have had prime rib to steak and neither would I recommend. The burgers are ok but it's hard to mess up a burger. The inside is atrocious. If you are gonna eat here do so over summer as the patio is very nice and somewhat recently completed. Beer list is good and there is quite the variety. Came here as a party of close to 15 people for a birthday happy hour on the patio. The patio was almost empty when we arrived on a weekday afternoon at 4:30, but the manager told us we couldn't move tables into the shade and would all have to figure out how to sit at an 8 person table even though we called the day before to reserve a spot. She said moving any of the tables into the shade would "mess up the flow." The waitress sort of forgot about us and many of us sat with empty drinks for close to 20 minutes. Later on that afternoon, as we were paying our check we noticed the waitress added an additional 18% gratuity for people who were paying for separate items on the bill with cards, on top of the 18% gratuity already added for the overall bill. For a $235 bill she tipped herself almost $100.00 by charging everyone paying with a card an additional 18%. By the time we realized what happened, half my party had already left. First opened in 1980, the recent renovations in 2012 has certainly spruced things up. Renovated and expanded kitchen facilities definitely improved the quality of food and shortened the ordering process from years past. An updated menu has such classics like prime rib and french dip sandwich, slow-cooked pulled pork, ribs and beef brisket. The 9oz angus burger is a good sized portion. I generally don't eat when I'm here though, but personally I'm a fan of their Main Pub wings, both the dry rub and wet are pretty good. With close to 2 dozen draught lines, Main Pub has one of the larger beer selections in the area. Whether you're thirsty for a familiar domestic beer or a locally brewed beverage, The Main Pub has a good selection of rotating brews. During the week, Main Pub runs happy hour from 3-6pm where drinks are $1 off and all appetizers are $5. The biggest draw for me however are their live music and events. Seems like there's something every night of the week. On Sunday evenings, it's local bluegrass and karaoke; Tuesday evenings it's acoustic songwriters; Wednesday's it's open mics; Thursday's it's trivia; and on Friday and Saturday's it's live music. Had a great time here on a Sunday listening to my sons band play. There were 5 bands from Summit Studios here in Manchester and this was one of their gigs. The Main pub is a Manchester institution . It's a great place to here live music. We took over the whole place on a Sunday from 12-3 with 5 different bands playing. The Pub was a great host and the bartender did a great job keeping up with the crowd. We ordered the dry wings which were served in 10 pieces . Their crispy with a great dry rub and a little spice . Perfectly cooked. We also ordered the mini pubbers which is their take on sliders . It was well done, 3 Angus burgers with lettuce, tomato, onion mayo and cheese. I would also order these again. I was in the Manchester/Hartford area for a weekend, and knew I'd having nothing better to do than want to watch NFL games somewhere. When I asked a local at the nearby mall, she suggested Buffalo Wild Wings. I thought, "Lord, those are everywhere and have the worst commercials I've ever seen." Luckily, on Friday, I drove by The Main Pub, which was advertising their NFL Sunday Ticket, and decided I'd check it out. If you're a sports fan who likes a relaxed ambiance, then The Main Pub is for you. They had all the games going on the TVs and everyone was really kind. Even though I was a stranger to everyone at the bar and not even a fan of the same team as the others, people were really positive and even educated me about other great places in the area. It was refreshing to not have to go to a bar where I hear people shouting at players for their fantasy teams or having drunk meltdowns over a missed field goal. The "connect" part of Connecticut must stand for how socially approachable people are here! Now, for the food. I ordered the calamari. I'm not sure why. I don't think you should order calamari anywhere other than a good seafood restaurant, but I was in the mood. The calamari here was unimpressive, but I shouldn't have been surprised. It didn't seem as fried as it could be and the sauce they provided was very unappealing. It just appeared to be tomato paste/sauce with some seasoning. It wasn't even something I'd enjoy with fries. But, hey, it's my own fault for ordering calamari. I shouldn't have expected to be floored by it. I also ordered their turkey sliders. It was to my expectations. I enjoyed it. The only thing I would suggest is holding off on the mayo a little bit. Does Connecticut love its mayo or something? I'm from Ohio (where mayo is a religion to some) and even I couldn't handle that mayo. The bartender listed my tab as "Calamari Guy." I have a sense of humor, so I found that funny, but given the calamari, I guess I could take it as an insult. When it comes down to it, The Main Pub has your standard pub fare and does it well enough. Their draught list looked impressive, so if you're there for a drink, you will be satisfied. I didn't partake in alcohol (frankly, I got "crazy in Connecticut" the night before), so I can't attest to that specifically, but it looked good. I've been wanting to try this Manchester institution for about 23 years and finally did so earlier this evening. Maybe I should've waited longer. I'll give the atmosphere and menu options 5- stars. But those facets alone don't make or break a restaurant, the food does, and the food tonight was unacceptable. For starters, my wife and I each ordered a crock of French onion soup. The soup itself was tasty, however the soup itself was only warm & not hot. The melted cheese was draped over the end of a roll so it looked like an eyeball. I liked how it looked! I didn't like that it was so hard to cut with my spoon that I needed to employ my knife to help me cut the crouton of bread. For dinner, we decided to split the 9 oz patty melt burger. We had asked our waitress to make sure we had some pink in our burger. In addition we asked for a side order of onion rings. When our food came, everything looked delicious. Looks being key. The French fries accompany the burger we're delicious, easily the highlight of our meal. The onion rings were hot, greasy, and totally devoid of flavor. The burger was crisp, charred on the outside, and totally flavorless and dry. Our waitress asked us how our food was and we told her how unacceptable the burger was. When our bill came, we were shocked to see that the burger was still on the bill. Our waitress had told us she'd tell the manager. Apparently she either lied or the manager didn't care. We were also charged $9.99 for the side dish of onion rings! We had a movie to catch so just paid the bill. I'm not sure I'll ever go back...but the place looks like it should be 5-stars. I want to love this place so much! It has awesome features; Great outside patio with outdoor kitchen and pretty patio lights and a fire pit... hello.... awesome! Inside they have a large bar with tons of seating, a cool greenhouse-esque room for dining with great lighting! Photo-op maybe? The menu is large with lots of options but the flavor is lacking, left leaving u wanting more. We ordered the Shepard's pie and it was large with a huge portion but just needed more seasoning. I love The Main Pub, and it's one of my favorite places to hang out. Since COVID, the patio is open, and my friends and I went to enjoy the sun, food, and drinks. Two of us ordered an app and drinks, while we waited for our third friend to show up. They then had to put food orders on hold due to incoming rain! (Completely understandable.) We waited the rain out, and ordered food once they reopened. Drinks were refreshing, and food is always good! Our waitress was also a doll, and new to the business. Her manager, however, put her in a hell of an awkward position, and had her ask us if weren't going to order more food to leave. Apparently, since there is limited seating on the patio he didn't want other people to have a long wait? We spent well over $200, and tipped our waitress well, but who the hell asks paying customers to vacate their table? I jokingly asked our waitress if she was kicking us out, and she looked super uncomfortable. If the manager had a real problem with us he should have approached the table himself. We watched him walk around greeting other tables, and checking in with them. Not once did he come near us. Needless to say I was little miffed. I should also say when I went two weeks ago everything I ordered wasn't available. It was more entertaining than anything, because the waitress felt bad too! (Not their fault .. COVID has been limiting things.) The manager that night, Phil, came over, and said next time I came my first drink would be on him. This was provided, and I am thankful!
