I was really disappointed with this store. Went in to have a small item shipped. Not only did the box cost and arm and a leg, but the charge with the shipping was way more than I've paid in the past with other companies for mailing out the similar item. I was only given one option of shipping, note that the place has FedEx, ups and other means of shipping. Only one was offered. I left and shipped it from the local post office where the box, shipping and bubble wrap cost me around $20 bucks, which is what I usually pay with other carriers. In a world of bright colored, big name, fast paced overnight delivery locations, this little store is a haven of simplicity. It is located in a strip mall and the signage is all-caps block letters that just say "Mail Center". The inside is a small nook with PO Boxes along the wall, a desk in the middle for preparing packages, a service counter along the back, AND a fingerprinting computer. That was my destination, as I had an appointment for a required work thing. The two employees were very friendly and quick to acknowledge me. Also, all 3 of the people that came in while I was there were greeted by name and chatted to about past recommendations or events, so they must have very loyal customers. It felt very small town and I really enjoy that. To go along with the small town feel, it was not the most modern, new, pretty or really even clean environment. But you could tell they really care about what they do and have a fun time doing it. I didn't get a chance to check on the shipping rates or pay attention to how that works, but I can attest to a great fingerprinting experience. By nature, the act of being fingerprinted (having your fingers washed, held, and then manipulated into random positions by a complete stranger) can either be a very awkward, sterile, doctor's office type experience OR you can make a new friend. This was the latter. All sorts of friendly chatter and stories. I'm not much of a chatterer, but I do enjoy it in others. The next time I need to ship something, instead of going to the fancy big name place nearby, I think I'll give these folks a try. I'll let you know how it goes. read more

I walked-in on a Wednesday afternoon with an urgent international shipping question and got answers from someone that's knowledgeable and helped me make the right decision, international shipping could get complicated and from my experience most people don't know what they're doing. With so much competition out there it really comes down to knowledge and caring about your customer, I've used The Mail Center before and they seem to have both. I will be back. read more

This place will do custom boxes for odd shaped objects. My mother does amazing cross stitching, sometimes paying upwards of $300 to frame her amazing works of art. She went to The Mail Center to have a rather large, rather expensive piece shipped from SLC to Portland. When the framed piece of work showed up at my house the box was crushed in on one side, instantly I knew something was wrong. The picture had only been bubble wrapped once, and the box was not even half full of foam. The big issue was that the box they put it in was a good foot to big. So all the way from SLC to Portland the picture got bumped around. The glass was broken, the frame was cracked.. When I called my mother to tell her the picture was broken she was so sick to her stomach. After all, this piece of work had just won first place in the Utah State Fair in the arts category.... Anyway, I just wanted other people to know that they apparently do a crummy job on their packaging. read more

The staff was really unprofessional and rude. They wouldn't do their job and take my package. They made an excuse that I later found out was a lie. I tried to complain an the employee I wanted to complain about would not get me to another person. read more

I heard one of the employees ripping on another customer about writing a Yelp review. They knew who it was since the customer used their name on Yelp. Rather than taking the proper approach of figuring out what the issue was resolving it, the only thing I heard in this conversation was "Why would you say that", "That's not what we do", and other similar statements. When the customer explained the issue and that they have the right to be honest on Yelp, the employee still continued insisting this is all the customer's fault and not looking for a solution. They are trustworthy for most stuff, but be careful and vigilant about your packages. read more

I have been to the mail center on several occasions to mail packages for ebay and such. the girls that work the counter are rude, and not very helpful- i often wonder if they have ever been trained it looks like they are trying to figure everything out as they go a long, not to mention they have their prices WAY jacked up. read more

The guy who runs the place is exceptionally good at customer service. I once came here to try to ship a violin, and he explained exactly how the shipping costs worked and did not pressure me into sending it when I decided the cost wasn't worth it. Then a few days ago, my husband and I walked in after they had closed (we didn't realize it was already after-hours). We just happened to walk up as another customer was leaving. But the guy acknowledged us and let us know that he would help us as soon as he was done with the customer he was helping, and he further let us know that it would be a little while longer than normal because the customer ahead of us was shipping a few international packages. A couple of other people came to the door well after we did, and he let them in to get to their mailboxes and one even had a package to send. This guy knows customer service. He also had his adult son working there helping him out, and explained to us that he had just started, so he was still trying to get familiar with everything. The son was also very nice and did his best to help us out. The guy even gave us a discount on a shipping upgrade on one of the packages for the time we had to wait--even though we came in after closing! We didn't mind the wait, and we certainly appreciated the shipping upgrade. Like I said, this guy KNOWS customer service. Definitely going back to send packages in the future. read more

Horrible. I have NEVER had such incompetent service in my life. I rented a mail box and set up an account to foward my mail while I am travelling while working. On three occasions they sent my mail to the wrong address. Several times they never sent my mail out after I had called for it. Three months ago the clerk in charge of mail fowarding quit and NO mail was fowarded for two weeks. None of the workers seem to know what is going on and talking to the owner, John is useless. He answers his messages when he feels like it and offers no explanations. He just does not care. When I made my first complaint about lousy service, he offered to close out my box and account!! That was his solution. I am currently filing a complaint with the BBB, Chamber of Commerce, the DA and any other agency I can think of. This business has cost me time and money and I am frustrated, fed up and furious. read more

The rip you off with packing charges if you are using an account number for shipping because in that case I guess they don't get anything from shipping carrier. Given an option just go to the fedex just opposite to them for better service. read more

Don't see why anyone has a problem with this company. They have always given me low rates and stellar service, in many cases going above and beyond for me. The only bad thing about this store is the location, it's always busy and it's a nightmare getting in and out. Beyond that, I'm a happy camper! This place is not very professional. I had a post office box here and i've had so many problems with them and had the hardest time trying to rectify. I paid for my bill on time and they put 4 late bills in my mailbox and called me even when I gave them proof I've paid with the cancelled check twice. The people working here are really rude and have little or no training. I have even tried to work with the owner and none are any help. AVOID going to this place because you won't get any service. read more
