This place sucks. My daughter went here for a birthday party, when we received her finished product, the glaze had already been chipped off. She set it on the couch and turned it around, the glazed paint just popped off! We had never experienced this before at other pottery shops. So much fun! Choose what you want to paint. Pick out as many colors as you would like. There are people to help out, if you need it, or they will leave you alone to do your work. My niece had her 8th birthday party here last weekend. I'm used to going early to help out at family events/functions (setting up, serving food, cleaning up, etc). but the staff here literally did it all for us. They offered to get stuff from our cars, they held the doors open, they set up all the tables, chairs, balloons, food, decor, etc. You name it, they did it. The staff were very patient with the children there and fielded questions left and right and grabbed extra paint/napkins all morning. This was my first time at Mad Potter (my niece has been before, but at their Meyerland location). It was very organized and efficient. There was another group who reserved the space after we did and as we left my uncle was singing their praises to them. After our party ended, I was so impressed with them and would recommend it to anyone with kids, people who like painting/pottery in general, or those looking for a venue to host a fun event. read more

Stephanie gives the BEST customer service experience! I came in today with my four month old son to buy my husband a last minute Father's Day gift. I had no isea what I was doing and hadn't preplanned a design or layout. I was so indecisive, I changed my art piece three times. And trying to get my son's handprint was impossible. Stephanie was so kind, patient and hospitable. She turned what could've been a stressful situation into a pleasant experience. While I think the store is a bit overpriced, I will return in the future because of Stephanie. Updated with photos of the mug Stephanie helped me design. How fun is this place?! A paint-your-own pottery studio. Let your creativity run wild! So many options of different things to paint from dishes and mugs to piggy banks and little figurines. They offer custom made orders so if you have something specific in mind you want designed but don't have the time to do you, you can pay them to do it for you. Pretty neat! They have special events every now and then where they offer items at a discount or free studio time. Studio time is the small fee you pay to use the paints and supplies on top of the cost of the item you're painting. Studio fees are per visit, not per item. So keep that in mind! As you can guess, this is a great place to take the kids on a rainy day or for birthday parties that they can throw here, but it's also great for adults too! They do Girls Night Out once a month where you pay a fee plus the price of you pottery piece and you get unlimited glasses of wine! Awesome, right? And it's BYOB so you can bring whatever you'd like to consume (excluding liquor I believe). They even have a fridge you can store cold beverages in. Shaddai, the store manager, is so sweet! She's very helpful and attentive to your needs as a customer. Oh, one more tip that they tell each new customer (though my everyone actually listens), be sure to paint THREE coats of everything! They paints are water based (they won't stain your clothes because of that) and once they glaze them and fire them in the kiln, you'll see how it turns out depending on coat amounts. There's even examples on the tables to show what it will look like depending on how many coats you do. Each color is also numbered so it's easy to tell whoever is issuing the paints which number you want for the color. Very nice system in place. Below are photos of things I've made there myself! We had a lot of fun here. You can paint your own ceramic piece and they had a ton of options! Bowls, plates, platters, unicorns, you name it, they've probably got it. The woman who helped us and repeatedly got us more paint for our pieces was super nice and helpful in showing us where everything was including stencils, brushes, stamps, and the scribblers. They even have a few drink options for your thirsty kids. My biggest complaint is the price. Holy cow. 44$ to paint a plate and that doesn't even include the 8$ paint fee. Want to add a cool picture to your piece? An extra 5$. We spent over 100$ for four people and my husband and I even chose half-priced Halloween pieces. Yikes! Definitely not somewhere we'd go often. Maybe once a year or so. Way too pricy for a fun trip for the kiddos. What also bothers me is that you can only choose 6 colors and they give you such a small amount at a time. Having to grab her attention to get more paint was a real pain in the butt. Really cool place if you've got a fat wallet. read more

Took two of my grandsons to paint today and we were given a wonderful tour of the studio! The boys were shown the kiln room and given an explanation on how the pieces are cured after painting. Loved how the staff came by our table and offered painting tips and checked on us throughout our painting. The icing on the cake was having healthy snacks offered. First time at this location. I like this one better then the River Oaks location. It's less crowded but I think the selection of pottery is a little smaller. GREAT customer service Katie was excellent. Plus you can purchase wine or BYOB with a $5 bottle charge. Great place to come and keep the kids busy. My bf took me here for a Friday date night. We were the first ones there so the employees were really helpful and amazing! The guy (I forgot his name!) let me look through the Pinterest book so I can have an idea what I want to paint which will then narrow down what pottery I should paint on. I decided that I wanted to do SpongeBob because I love drawing him. I showed the guy worker what my idea was so he suggested for me to use their transfer paper (free) so I can trace out my picture onto the plate. Such a great idea! Truly great service - they kept checking on us if we needed any more paint. Basically first ones in, last ones out. This place is BYOB - there is a $5 corkage fee but we didn't get charge for the 2 bottles we brought in :O It can be expensive depending on what pottery you used. I saw a lot of people going for the smaller pieces which is easier to paint but since we're Asians... we wanted to be practical and use our pieces in our everyday life. Really cute idea. This place has horrible customer service. My friend and I came here to paint. He painted a coaster and I painted a bowl. We spent about 3 hours painting here. At the end of our time, the associate told us that the coasters are only sold in sets of four, despite the fact there was no label where we picked it up that said that. She said we either had to pay the $30 for all four coasters, or leave his painted one here. So after painting for three hours, my friend had to wash off all his work and leave with nothing. After that debacle, she still wanted to charge him for his painting time. The more appropriate thing to do would have been to allow him to keep his one coaster and divide the price for all 4 coasters by four and only charge him that. The entire situation could have been avoided by clear labeling and pricing. read more

The customer service here is extremely lacking. I brought my sons to the Mad Potter for date night. We were the only customers and got no assistant whatsoever. Whenever I had a question or needed something, I had to walk over to the counter to the associate who was just standing around biting her nails, being oblivious. She talked so lowly that I couldn't hear anything she was saying. That's so annoying. I wonder if she could even hear her own self talking. My son and I visited the Mad Potter a few years back, and it was a completely different experience. The staff was wonderful, explained everything, gave us ideas, and offered assistance. Maybe I my high expectations ruined the date. Idk. We were ignored, and the worker seemed annoyed that I didn't fill the form out correctly. Sheryl and Araseli were so great! I had 4 of my nieces with me(age 4,5,11 and 11) ! They were so patient with me and the girls! My nieces enjoyed themselves so much. I LOVE this location! So much so that I'm coming back for their women's friendship day this sunday with 3 of my friends to paint (and sip... That byob beer and wine is a Plus!) The turn around time was quicker than other pottery painting places, about 4 days! This is a great spot with a large variety of pieces to choose from... Something for all price points. Fun place and would definitely like to come back again soon! Our family enjoyed ourselves very much especially my daughter. Cute pieces and alot to choose from which is awesome, but the prices are a little steep. For two pieces we spent roughly $70. The hidden fees should be listed and explaibed and not stated when we sat. The ladies were nice but should've explained about the extra costs when you purchase the pottery. Besides what's listed below the pottery you have I assume paint fees, glazing, handling etc? The extra costs that also get you are the stencil and lettering which to my opinion shouldn't cost extra since its lace and letter stickers that don't cost much from hobby lobby. My husband and I were a little taken back on those things, other than that it's a cute and fun place for everyone. The staff seemed nice, detailed pricing should be either listed or explained. But I honestly would come back again and possibly go for my daughter's birthday next year. 4 out of 5 for experience, happiness in my child's eyes, and stress reliever. Just please take my advice and ask about the extra pricing even if you've been there in past or not, we never been here and wasn't explained (which they do ask if you have been and we answered "no"). My first time experience at The Mad Potter was GREAT!! I came here on a Thursday afternoon so it was not very busy. I was with my 4 month old and we were painting a piece for my husband's birthday. My friend was supposed to meet me there to hang out with my daughter while I painted, but she was running late because she went to the wrong location! As I was drawing up my design, my daughter started to get really fussy. Shaddai was SO kind enough to hold my daughter and walk around with her while I picked out my paint and while I waited till my friend showed up (I hope this review doesn't get her in trouble because she was still very tentative to the other customers!!). Even after my friend finally showed up, she still went above and beyond my expectations helping out with my daughter's handprints, recommending stickers, tape, etc. As I was checking out (Shaddai had already left for the day) I picked up your business card and realized she was the studio manager. I can absolutely see why she was chosen to be the manager of your establishment. I am so appreciative of the kindness that she showed me during my visit. I'm not much of a painter and I wouldn't normally go to a place like this, but with the great service I received I am definitely coming back. Thank you again!! read more

I am a repeat customer of The Mad Potter. I've been at least 8 times over the last 3-4 years. I like how they changed the policy to where you can grab the paint yourself, however I feel in return it has made the workers absolutely lazy. In the past I've gone they offer to help if your struggling, check up on you, give you ideas, and tell you about cool techniques. My husband and I went there today for my birthday, and the two girls working today were totally useless. We were the only people in the whole studio. They were working on their own pieces of pottery. Every time I had a question would have to walk up to them at their counter and ask them. I felt like I was interrupting them since they were doing their own art pieces. I love the place and this concept, however don't work here if you're not going to care about your customers or don't charge a studio fee if I'm doing everything myself. read more

I hosted a 4 year old birthday party here. I was reassured by the manager that they would provide instruction and be present for the kids during the entire time. Instead, I had to keep looking for the manager and asking her to assist, and only had one person to support us when it suited them. Unfortunately, the kids were done with their pottery in 10 minutes which left us with 80 minutes of mayhem. I brought party-themed coloring pages for the kids to color afterwards but it just wasn't enough to keeps kid that age entertained. The kids proceeded to run around the entire venue a la Lord of the Flies. The staff did not do much to help salvage the situation (other than show the kids the kiln room (tiny room with a big kiln in it) for all of 5 minutes and hand out aprons and make sure they recorded each pottery piece to charge me properly). They were helpful in the party set up beforehand, but they were not around to assist afterwards and help make the party a success. Pottery painting was fun - the kids loved it - but I would not recommend this venue for an under 5 year old birthday party which is contrary to the staff's advice I was given. If they provide the right support, games, hosting, etc., with a dash of creativity, I think it could be possible. If you are going to charge people to host a party at your venue, there should be more of that. read more
