I took my girlfriend here yesterday and we had a great time! The whole process was super easy. We walked in, were greeted right away, and they explained everything very clearly. You simply pick the pottery you want to paint, and the price is listed on the bottom of each piece, which makes it easy to choose. We spent about two hours painting and had a lot of fun with it. After you're finished, they keep the piece for about three days so it can be fired and cured in the kiln. Overall, it was a really fun and relaxing experience. read more

Came for a fun Sunday day out with my friends, and we loved the coziness of the place! Note, it is no-reservations, and so depending on the day or time, there may be no tables/ very crowded. We were lucky to have not too many people there so it didn't feel cramped at all. You get to pick from a wide selection of what to paint and the price at the bottom of the pieces are all inclusive of the price! It is still pretty pricey but an enjoyable once an a while activity! There's a wide array of ceramics to paint with varying sizes and price points. Once we were seated, one of the employees gave us guidance on how to achieve the level of opaqueness we wanted, what patterns were available, and more. I appreciated the variety of paints and materials they offered. The turnaround time to pick up your masterpiece after it has been glazed is 3-4 days. You can walk in without any reservations. If you are looking for something fun and different to do for a date night, this is a great spot. It also looks like a cool place to bring your kids or have a birthday party. We came here without reservations on a random weekday and got to sit immediately. We had run of the whole place actually. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. I needed the help because I had no idea what I was doing. It is pretty straight forward. You pick the item you want to paint and then they set you up with every tool you need to create a masterpiece. Take your time, relax and socialize. Once you are complete, they take it and bake it for you. This is a 3-4 day process and they will tell you when to come back and pick it up. This is the first time I've been there With my 2.5 year old , at first the staff seems nice , but when you're done they don't even know the prices of anything , when I asked for the bill they said " we're calculating your price right now" , which for me means they have no idea what the prices are and they are making it up, because my 2.5 year old painted to items and Ice cream cone and a turtle , the total was $66 that is insane !!! it's ridiculous that the people who work there don't even give you the prices of each item !! I will pick up what my son Painted and never go there again or recommend anyone to go there it's the worst place for an activity !!! read more

My kiddo has been begging me to take her here since she's recently been into painting. We always pass it on the way home, so I figured why not stop today? I looked on their website for prices prior to going in, but they were mostly for private parties and the like. So basically we had no idea what were getting into when walking in. Thankfully though, the workers were friendly and welcoming whenever we walked in. The first worker, whose name I completely forgot, explained what you do and how much everything costs. Basically you pick out whichever item to paint and pay a flat fee of either $7 or $9, depending on if a child or an adult paints. Your total is the item you picked to paint (ours was $14) + $9, which ended up being around $24 with tax. They also offer drinks and snacks should you choose, but there is an added fee. We had to leave the mermaid there for them to fire it in the kiln, so they said it would be ready by Friday. That seems a bit late since it is barely Sunday, but whatever. All in all, it was a fun and unique experience, for kids and adults alike. Customer service was top notch, which is what I loved. Just be sure to check out each item's price as they become very pricey! read more

Great date night place. The staff is super friendly and it is a fun activity. If you need help with ideas they have examples out, but the staff can help you come up with ideas and print things out for assistance. Most importantly it is BYOB ($5.00 per bottle or box), but they don't really provide anything so unless you want to drink out of tiny plastic cups; bring your own glasses. I would recommend planning for extra time. We were there for an hour and half and ran out of time when then close at 9:00. If you go later in the evening there are not as many children. Saturday there are usually 45,000 kids, at least. read more

Stopped by for my daughter's birthday on a teen night. I called ahead of time and a young lady made an appointment for us. We arrived around 4:30 and had our table ready. The lady explained to us the process told us about the pricing on the bottom of each item. She did not however tell us the stickers were not free or that pricing for items are on the wall. They started to get busy and wanted to seat another family in our table, not cool. When it was time to pay I saw an additional $3 dollars on the bill. I asked for what and they said for the stickers. I told the lady at the registers we did not know the stickers would be at a charge as the lady did not tell us. She told me prices were listed on the wall. Would have been nice if the First Lady told us that from the beginning. We ended paying $66 dollars for a small jewelry holder box and a cross. The expertise was nice but definitely over priced. I drove to Walmart and I purchased some items to paint along with some acrylic paint and brushes for less that $15 bucks. read more

My favorite place to go and paint!! I have been taking my family for years, had parties and love the friendly environment. However yesterday I was shocked at how hot the whole store was, it must have been at least 85 degrees. We planned for a day of going back to finish some pieces with my grandkids and had to leave early because of how hot the store was. I asked a worker about the situation, and was told the kiln was on at 3:00 pm??! I was told the kilns were only turned on at night for our safety and comfort. Never had this problem at other locations, would love to have known in advance before we made a long drive. I'm disappointed we had to leave light headed and nauseous. read more

Concept: pick some pottery , paint it, and pick up in less than a week. The concept is fantastic. It's fun for every age (maybe age 6+). There are several places like this concept around town, so it's all in the execution. There are a lot of different types of pottery to choose from. You can do something small like a ring holder or small wall hanging to a huge platter or tiled tray. There are some custom items like jack-o-lanterns, etc... We each chose something we could get painted in the 1-2 hours we had left before they closed. It'd too bad they took so long to get our paints, so we could have been more thorough in our painting. There are different paints, brushes, stencils, stamps, and a variety of tools to help you out. You don't have to be artistic to paint here. I really enjoyed painting and the store is cute, but they need more staff. We made a reservation and our table was ready when we arrived. Once we chose our pottery, it took about 30 minutes before we could get one of the two girls working to get our paint. You can't get your own paint. Also, we were given no instructions before starting. Once we starting painting, they came by and said, "oh yeah, don't paint light colors over dark, they won't show up" and other comments like that. We were all frustrated. My mom wiped all the paint off her bowl. My sister completely changed the colors she used after that point because we were never told this to begin with. The paints are thick and seem like they would show up. Some basic laminated instructions at the table would really help the newbies. There were two girls working. This simply isn't enough for a Saturday night. One girl was super friendly and was doing the best she could. The other girl was grumpy and unpleasant. The two girls were responsible for check in, check out, paint distribution, answering questions, etc... it's just too much for 2 people. I love the idea and my piece turned out great. This location just needs one more person working there on the weekends and those people need to be pleasant and happy. read more

I came to this place in May due to a groupon. The process was explained to us - you pick your item, pick your colors (write them down on a sheet of paper), a store person will get the colors for you, and you pay at the end. Studio time's $8, and then you pay for the pottery on top of that. I decided on a butter dish, since I didn't have one, and it was easy enough to paint. We went on a Saturday, and it was ready for pickup by Wednesday. I liked it! Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. For once I was lazy and decided to put the butter dish in the dishwasher (top rack) instead of hand washing. It survived perfectly! I was so pleased I tweeted about it, mentioned Mad Potter, and also CCed my friend. They tweeted back and said I needed a matching plate, so my friend and I got free studio time! All we had to do is show my tweet! We had no problems checking out and getting free studio time upon completion, which was great! Reservations are needed if you are going to come in on a weekend afternoon. My friends and I got there early enough last week on Sunday, but a woman came in with four children, and they were turned away. Even though my friends and I were the only people in the store (just one table), the woman was told reservations were made, so they'd have to come another time. We knew there was a party arriving, and we saw there was one other table with a reserved sign, but we didn't see the other three tables reserved - very strange! My only problem with Mad Potter is the lack of affordable choices for those of us who are more utilitarian. I have zero interest in painting figurines, such as a dog or penguin, but I do love to cook. Unfortunately many of the practical dishes, e.g. platters, casserole trays, etc, are very expensive, anywhere from $30-$40 each. I can buy them already done for much cheaper. Furthermore, you can't bake food inside of these finished ceramic dishes. While I understand the reason, there should be a way to do this! As a result of lack of variety of products, I think after two trips, there's really nothing else for me to paint! read more

I have been to the Mad Potter many times before and always enjoyed it until this visit. Literally an hour before they closed, the staff began their duties and made it clear we were an inconvenience. One staff member tried cleaning our table and taking our paint before we were done. Practically throwing a brush at me. The other staff member literally stopped me while painting and asked if I could pay my bill then, instead of when we're finished. Incredibly poor customer service to the point of just being rude. It will be a very long time, if we return at all. Update: I went to pick up my pottery today and complained to management. They were very apologetic and offered coupons for another visit. While this makes amends for the poor service, I do hope they fire the staff that was working that day. If that is the kind of people you want representing your business, you won't be in business very long. I am upgrading my review to 3 stars only because management did something to make it right. I've never been to this type of establishment before, so I was very giddy to be painting some pottery. The layout was very organized, brightly lit, (this is something that I really like in stores), and the staff was sort of helpful. - You pick out which piece you want to paint. At the bottom of each piece, there's a price tag. The boy got a small turtle piece ($10), and I got a small vase ($18). There's a crapload of pieces. There's bound to be something that you'll like. If all else fails, you should get a mug. Those come in handy. - Sit down, and you pick what colors you want to use. There's a lot of choices and even some glitter colors. Glitter your piece out! That sounded a little dirrty. After you write down what colors you want, the staff will get the colors for you. While they do that, you can get some brushes. There's kiddy brushes and adult brushes. I would of liked some thinner brushes, so I could of done precise painting. - Here's where I took off a star. After the staff gave us our paints, we started to paint. That seems like the legit thing to do. Well, after our first layer of paint, I hear someone say, "Did you tell them what to do?" What? Wait. Did we do it wrong? Apparently, someone forgot to mention to us that we were suppose to wet our pieces with the sponge first and that you should paint darker colors first before lighter colors. These two things would of came in handy. I am glad that I had pastel colors. - After we were done, the boy paid and the total came out to $41 for two people, two pieces, and for one hour of painting. You can pay $5 extra to get your piece ready in a few days rather than waiting a week to receive it. I passed on that. Overall, it was fun. We laughed and made fun of each other because our painting skills were horrible. It's bonding time, for sure. The prices are high, but there are deals on certain days. For instance, we went on a Friday night, and there is a Date Night special which means that a couple paints for $10 plus the costs of your pieces. The boy complained/whined for 10 minutes about the ridiculous prices, but I reassured him that we still had fun. It does hurt in the pockets though. read more

Place is pretty quiet the times I have gone. I usually try to reserve a table during the week instead of weekends. You can also take your own Snacks, and they also have some for sell. This place is so much fun. My girlfriends and I visited for their St. Patrick's day special. Paint a beer stein, drink some beer and get some pretzels. You pick the colors you want to use the most, they give you a little palette with those colors, they explain how the paint works and how sometimes you need to do a few coats, then the baking process, and picking up the final product a few days later. That's basically it in a nutshell. The problem? It's so much fun you'll get hooked. We've already planned another visit for my friend's birthday. There are so many items you could paint from kitchenware to clocks. Lots of cute things. Ok but a real problem? Coming up with something creative to paint. We probably killed about 30 minutes trying to get an idea as we painted the base color. There's lots of room for creativity though. A good place to take kids for a party and even adults. What a fun little place. The prices for the ceramics are better than other ones (like Purple Glaze). I don't know if it's particular for this location, but it does get pretty crowded very quickly, esp on the weekends. We nearly didn't get to sit down and turn over times are usually 30min. Best if you call ahead and ask if they have any reservations that may occupy the whole place.. they often do. Anyway, lots of ceramics here. You write down the first 6 colours you want and they'll get it for you. They recommend about 3 layers of the colour so it stays well when it's finally glazed. They have other materials to help you with your craft... plenty of brushes to go around, etc, there's a hair dryer nearby. The employees are attentive and will be around to ask you if you need more paint. I guess it depends on who's working, but some know better tips than others. It was about $44 for two people, with the two ceramic cups and the base studio pay for each person. Anyway, we're no Michelangelo here but the glazed finish REALLY looks so well polished! They're usually ready in about 3 days. They said if cracks appear on the glaze, we can bring em back and they'll put it back in the fire... for free! They also mentioned that they're dishwasher safe. I asked about microwave use, and the lady I talked to said she only puts hers in for no longer than 2 minutes. I highly recommend this place. I'd love to be back! read more

We came here for our 4th anniversary to do something special and fun. It was great! Huge amount of pottery to choose from. It may get a bit pricey for the pieces ( the paint is cheap). However, if you go for a mug or a dinner plate you'll come off with a decent check. One suggestion I feel giving is do not go in close to opening time, the staff was quite cold and rude, and they only seemed to notice us after a bunch of other customers were in and painting. My cousins and I all brought our kids here on a Saturday morning around 11 am. The kids are age 0-10 years old. We all had a great time! The staff was friendly and super helpful, very laid back chill atmosphere. The kids had a great time painting the pottery, at first I thought you actually make pottery but the pieces are pre-made you just pick out what you want and paint it, once you're done you have to come back in 3 days to pick up your piece (they have to glaze it). Other than having to return to pick up the pottery this is a really great place. Returning is only an issue fore me because I live so far away from all the locations. The activity kept the kids busy and they all had fun. If you make a mistake you can just wash it off and start over! This was great for the toddlers in our group. It's also BYOB and you can also bring food in so it would be fun for an all adult group as well maybe later in the day or evening. It's also priced fairly. We will definitely be returning. read more
