The night before I looked up on their website to check if they…read moreaccepted walk-ins b/c when searching up on Google their name was listed as only "Cordovan Art School" (no pottery parlor). The website stated in bold letters "walk-ins always welcome". However, when I got to the store they had a sign posted on the door saying walk-ins were only allowed from 4:30 to 7:00. This was listed nowhere on the website. Quite inconvenient. As far as paint quality goes, pretty decent. They had a variety of brushes and tools for painting and they gave visuals of how each color bakes with 1, 2, and 3 coats so you have a good idea of how your piece will turn out. I was very disappointed with the finished product after glazing though. There were speckles of colors that I did not have anywhere in my piece and smudges (maybe from overcrowding the kiln? Not sure). Also, I believe they did not correctly glaze my piece as there appeared to be milky drips baked onto my piece that I assume to be extra glaze that dripped down and baked when firing. Quite disheartening as I took the entire 4:30-7:00 time to paint my piece and make it perfect only for it to be messed up during the firing process. The staff were fairly nice except for who I assume to be the owner. The day I went to paint with friends (unaware of the time rule because it wasn't on the website) we arrived at 3:30. The front of the store which featured tables, paint, and pottery pieces was completely empty. So, my friend decided just to ask if we could paint earlier since it was not too far from the walk-in hours (if not, no harm done. Just worth a shot to ask). The owner sharply responded with "No. Absolutely not." with some other explanations about camp. We were totally fine with being told no (again no harm done just worth a shot), but a nicer tone would have been appreciated. Another rude interaction was when I went to pick up my piece. My mother decided to come with me as she had been wanting to paint pottery and wanted to check out the studio. When the owner was asked about their opening hours by my mother (who is hard of sight and who did not get a chance to read the door since I opened it for her), she responded "It's on the door." (referring to the sign posted on printer paper) in a harsh, belittling tone. While I do get it can be frustrating to be asked a question when you have a sign, it does not take much effort to simply answer when asked. She also explained how the new hours were because the children were in camp and how pottery painters were not the priority (although pottery parlor is half of their name so a little misleading). Overall, not a great experience. Don't think I would revisit.

I had been to several painting workshops where everyone creates the same painting, and while I like those I have to say I enjoyed this much more. Everyone in the group got to pick out a project that suits their needs and personality, and I got to create something that will actually look great in my new home with my FH. I have been taking Art lessons from Sheri for over 5 years now. She is professional and she guides…read moreyou through a painting with gentle directives, and the finished product is something you would be proud to hang on your wall. There is also a camaraderie that develops with the other students in the class. Although none is painting the same thing, we all learn from each other by listening to the directives given by Sheri. Her studio is spacious, and coffee and snacks are available. This is not a "one-lesson go home with a painting" place. You turn out a professional, beautifully detailed painting that may take you 4 weeks to complete, but it shows the work and talent which went into creating it. It is a relaxing 3 1/2 hours a week (you can certainly take more than one class a week, she offers 3) in which you create something of beauty and enjoy other people's company. I HIGHLY recommend taking classes from Sheri.

My girls (7yr and 9yr) started with a short spring break camp but asked to stay on and now love their weekly art and crochet classes. They never complain about going and never want to miss a class, which says a lot for busy kids this age! Since, their skills have improved much and I'm always impressed to see the projects they bring home. If you take a peek at the other student's work displayed, your mind will be blown. It's encouraging to see other parents entrust their extremely talented children to this school.

BYOB, and she provides real wine glasses - they are not the cheap kind either (don't expect Riedels, obviously). And with later hours than most (last class is 7:30-10:30pm), this is a great date spot. Granted I went with my dad, we had such a fun night. With so many restaurants and even bars nearby, 6 hours flew by before we knew it. I highly recommend the Crazy Canvas with Michelle.

The projects and techniques taught here are one of a kind for sure!! Students learn more here than they probably do in their regular art class. The classes have a limit of 12 students so there is a special one on one connection that students can receive. Public school settings usually require the teacher to spread themselves thin with 25+ size classes. They provide a WIDE range of age groups and studios! When one of my three daughters was dismissed just as she was starting to have trouble with her grades, it felt clear that once they decide they no longer want a student there, there's little room for understanding or grace. My oldest daughter actually graduated from this school, which is why I fought so hard to keep the other two enrolled. After spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on this school, I would have expected a much higher level of care, compassion, and support from leadership at the time. Hearing about hints of discrimination within the school community is also deeply troubling and disappointing.

While the school often emphasized values and faith, the leadership's day-to-day actions didn't match those messages. Interactions frequently felt insincere, and there was a clear pattern of favoritism. Some children were approached with patience and grace, while others received a noticeably harsher tone for the exact same behaviors. As a parent, this was heartbreaking to watch. We also noticed a sharp increase in turnover among both families and lower school teachers during their leadership. When people continue to leave year after year, it naturally raises questions about the internal culture and what may be happening behind the scenes. In the end, we chose to move our child because the environment no longer felt supportive to their well-being, confidence, or growth. My hope is that by sharing our experience, the school will take a closer look at its leadership and the culture that's being shaped under their direction.
