This is one of my all-time favorite places to eat. The menu changes daily, you can look at it on Facebook if you'd like. There are multiple classics that you can order if you want to play it safe, however I never do. I always order whatever the special of the day is. They are unique, delicious sandwiches, soups and pasta or side salads. I recently had a dill pickle soup that blew my mind. Who would've thought that this was going to be a delicious soup, but it was. The owner is the only person who works there, so give her a break if you go during lunch hour. It's usually busy. You can call ahead if you'd like. Also delicious desserts, including cake, pie, and cake pops. Sometimes cheesecake. There's a sign that says "skinny people here are easier to kidnap". No lie. Great Localy owned Breakfast and Lunch spot. I had Today's Special which was the Boom Boom Shrimp Wrap. There was definitely some Boom to it. You got the nice Sweet 1st then the Boom. It came with a fresh side or chips. I got the Chips but the fresh sides included Coleslaw, pasta salad, and potato salad which all look good. I have a friend on FB and she always posts their daily specials. Today I decided to stop in to try the meatloaf sandwich and red pepper Gouda soup. The food was very yummy, the server was bubbly but the owner did nothing but scowl the entire time. It wasn't like they were busy, we were the ONLY diners in the deli. I often wonder why it's not more packed when i drive past but now I know. No one wants to eat in an uncomfortable environment. I've heard great things about TLD for a while now, especially for their custom cakes. And while I still haven't had the chance to try that, was nearby and decided to finally pop in. It was just a bit after 10am, and I was celebrating having dropped my last one to start school off at preschool! Ah, so many freed up hours of alone time to try all the places and do all the things. Just kidding, so many hours I can now actually focus on my job. But today I took a detour and started late to celebrate (and because I was running an errand after drop off, but that sounds more lame). TLD is in a strip with a gas station, so doesn't give the idea of a great place, but get past that. The decor is cute and welcoming, and the woman working today (owner?) was friendly and moved at a quick pace. She welcomed me, asked if I knew what I wanted and then if I'd been before. She let me know that they had the pastries in the case or bagel sandwiches, and lunch would start being served at 10:30. I chose an everything bagel with ham and cheese, and it had a good amount of each on a chewy bagel. It was under $4 so priced fair. I also ordered a coffee, which they offer with a multitude of syrups, but I added cream only. It was hot and fresh. I took a few treats home, three cake pops (for kids) and a banana pudding (for me), all of which were very good and worth the splurge. Another person entered while she was helping me, and started to look at the menu, but was told that not everything there was available. She gave her the same options as me, but added in a grits casserole (that she either forgot to mention to me or I didn't hear). I wish I had known that option and definitely would have tried it. I think it's pretty safe to say that if there was ever a contest for the "chain restaurant capital of America," Orange Park, Florida (or even Jacksonville as a whole) would be an easy frontrunner. Low quality, flavorless food chains offering sub-par (or worse) service seem to be in high abundance. So when I moved here, it was complete culture shock...where i come from (Hawaii), it's the exact opposite. Chain establishments are often shunned by locals (there's only ONE Popeyes, ONE Wendy's ONE Dunkin Donuts...or used to be, I think it's gone now) in favor of the mom and pop run establishments. They just offer fresher, high quality food, and they are grateful for your business and SHOW it. Major difference. However, once in a while i stumble across a hidden gem in this large city, one I've driven past 100 times and never looked twice at. Well that was my mistake, because turns out I've been missing out on some really great food! The Lunchbox Deli, Yeeps. Orange Park area, across from the hospital. It's kinda hidden by the gas station, so you gotta slow down a little or you'll pass it. Small joint, but very clean and charming on the inside. They also have outside seating if you prefer. Behind the counter you will see every baking accessory known to man (kitchenaid stand mixers, dozens of different baking pans, kitchen tools I've never seen before, etc.), which is GOOD, because that's a clear indication that most, if not everything, is made in-house. I learned that this is a family-owned, local business, so that's a bonus for me. Food: The menu isn't overbearingly extensive, yet pretty much covers all the bases. They have a breakfast and lunch menu...with a vast array of items to satisfy both veg-os (I mean...vegetarians) and carnivores alike. I was there for breakfast, and upon thorough examination, one menu item in particular said "Pick me! Pick meeee!" The corned beef bagel sandwich. Fresh in-house corned beef and bubbly melted swiss on your choice of toasted bagel. I went with the asiago cheese. While I was waiting, i canvassed the dessert case, which held, at the minimum, a dozen different flavors of home-made cake pops. The cinnamon bread pudding loaf looked equally inviting, especially when I learned that it is served with a caramel dipping sauce. I know, right? The bagel sandwich was even better than I expected. The freshness of the meat really came through and paired exceptionally well with both bagel and melted cheese. Loved it, want another, and soon. Wrap Up: I believe it would benefit both parties greatly if you would give this joint a visit. The owner also informed me that they make cakes for special occasions and cater. This is the second time ive been here. Today i had the chicken salad on a croissant and a side of shrimp and shells salad. The salad was ok but not what i was hoping , thats ok though not their fault. The sandwich is what brought me back. I think this is second only to my wifes salad. I took half and brought it to my wife and she thought it was awesome as well. This is truly a hole in the wall and it would be easy to pass it, but i dont recommend doing that. The lady behind the counter may be the owner and i think during lunch hour she should try to get some help as to not get overwhelmed. Went in today and had the gourmet chicken salad, and I was super excited to try it. It was good, not amazing. I hadn't been in this deli in years, so I asked a few questions about things (while I was the only person in the place) and the owner came off a little rude, as if I was annoying her. The last thing I want is to go in a privately owned business, that I want to support, and feel like I'm bothering someone by asking a few simple questions. I got the raspberry mint tea and all I taste is mint, so I don't like that, and my sandwich had a pickle with it that looks very old, smushed and small, so that's something going right in the trash. The rudest service ever. Went there for lunch carry out for my coworkers and me. The lady, who is the owner, is so rude and unprofessional. Upon checking out, there was a misunderstanding with whose sandwich belonged to whom. She decides in a room full of people to announce that because I couldn't figure out whose sandwich belonged to whom, that she had to redo the whole order. This is not true she called out my coworkers name and I gave her the card. It turned out to be the wrong name. Written on the side of the bag was the wrong name as well . The two stars is purely for the pretty good gourmet chicken salad sandwich, split pea soup and cake pop. The negative three stars is for the incredibly rude woman behind the cash register. It appears the same woman is mentioned in some of the other comments below. She appeared to be some kind of owner/manager, and boy, does she not need to be facing the patrons. I ordered first among my colleagues because I persuaded them to choose this restaurant for lunch. After inexplicably waiting a few minutes before taking my order (there was no one else ordering in the restaurant), she greeted me with "what do you want?" I asked for the chicken salad sandwich and also asked her which soup she recommended and what cake pop was most popular. All of the following was told to me in the rudest tone I've ever encountered from a restaurant employee: she told me she couldn't recommend a soup until she knew the rest of my order, acted like I was an idiot for wanting a full sandwich and cup of soup, told me the soups were all too different to recommend one and said she didn't know what cake pop to suggest because she *doesn't like sweets*. Excuse me, isn't this a bakery?! To top it all off, she was polite to my two male colleagues who ordered after me and promptly provided recommendations and answers to their questions. You know it's bad when my male colleagues told me they couldn't believe how she treated me and they'd never seen anything like that before. I really like this place! It has a definite casual feel but it's very clean. Great place to grab a sandwich during a lunch break. Seems to be run by a family. I got a delicious tomato mozz sandwich. Really glad we found this place -- it's easy to miss. We went for lunch and had two made-from-scratch soups -- the chicken and rice was mostly chicken, and it was very good. The loaded potato soup also was delicious. We split the sandwich special -- meatloaf with lettuce and tomato on white bread. It was very tasty. I would have liked something other than iceberg lettuce --maybe a spinach and arugula mix -- and I would probably ask for a different bread next time, but this was classic treatment of a classic sandwich. Stopped by for lunch, my future mother in law has been dying to try it and yet I did not know it existed. We both got the chicken crossaint sandwich and it was perfection. The lady working was very frazzled / overwhelmed, which is understandable because it looked like she had a large to-go order... BUT the snippy attitude was uncalled for. I had been wanting to get over and try out this deli close to my home. They advertise sandwiches, homemade soup, and desserts. I had the pumpkin soup which sounded awesome. Something was missing from the seasoning in the soup. I was a little disappointed. The Cinnabon bread pudding was to die for and my friend's chicken salad was delicious. Ordered the premium chicken salad sandwich to go. What few bites I had were extremely delicious, though let's just say I wasn't happy with it for certain hygienic reasons noted at the end... The owner was kind enough to give me the option of a refund, but instead I opted to replace it with some of the delicious looking desserts they have on display. The cake pops are great! And the frost mint tea was very good too, though they gave it to me as syrup so I had to use the water dispenser on the fountain machine. It was a bit wonky and added pink lemonade to what was meant to be a frost mint tea. Still tasted like delicious flavored tea though so that wasn't a big deal. I'm going to try the chicken salad again down the line. I hope I don't have the same problem. I'd like to give them 4 stars because the food tasted amazing and I love hole-in-the-wall eateries, but the owner didn't really reassure me that there wouldn't be any "extra ingredients" again next time, only that they always make new batches (based on other reviews it may just be the chicken salad)...I probably should have been more blunt and just asked why they don't wear hairnets... But all-in-all, they seem like nice people and they make an amazing sandwich and dessert. I just hope they'll stick to the recipe more in the future and hold the hair. read more

Cakepops. I could stop right there. That is all this restaurant could serve and I would be totally fine. Those cakepops are yummy and at about a dollar a piece reasonable compared to other place's prices. The Lemon Poppy was really good and my husband enjoyed his Oreo. I could have eaten a handful of those cakepops in a sitting. I am thinking about doing cakepops for my birthday instead of a normal cake. I highly recommend the cakepops! read more

I'm writing this review as I eat at The Lunchbox Deli. First impressions: clean, good bakery selection, a little on pricey side. The staff: it seems like they might need an extra hand or two. Two women are running around a bit frantically and maybe one additional person might be of use. I think one girl was new so I'm sure things will improve with time. The food: I ordered the Cuban with a side of macaroni salad and my boyfriend got pastrami and Swiss. Macaroni salad is bomb. Like. Bomb isn't even a fair way to describe it. Cuban is delicious and my boyfriend said his was good as well. I also ordered an almond joy cake pop and a slice of cheesecake. Getting these took quite awhile... Especially since no cooking was actually necessary. Just pull them out from under the case. But they were busy and like I said, the girl was new (I think.) anyways.
