I was coming in from out of town to visit my boyfriend for Valentine's Day and I called somewhat last minute to have some special Rice Krispy treats made. Shay communicated via text with pictures on how they would look and all the relevant information. She made sure to have them ready exactly when I needed them. We talked on the phone about my expectations from the number of servings, flavor, icing, size, design. All very professional and quick. I confirmed the details and sent payment immediately. I was offered to make a deposit with a subsequent balance payment via CashApp. I received an immediate response when the payment was received. I was wanting to deliver a cake to a friend at Duke hospital. Hospitals in general can be chaotic places and Che made the whole process simple. I'm sorry to have to give this business a negative review. *TLDR - A disorganized experience and a sloppy cake.* Che from Lunchbox Bakery delivered a cake that looked messy and unprofessional. She did not provide a progress photo of the cake the night before delivery as promised. On the morning of the delivery day she sent a photo of the cake that did not meet our agreed upon specifications - incorrect icing color, incorrect design and sloppy and illegible writing on top. Che agreed to modify the cake after we discussed what I was unhappy with. The modifications were not done correctly - she independently decided to adjust the icing color without my consent. The drip icing was also thin and a translucent consistency unlike the reference photo I wanted. The writing was incorrect and hastily done and the message on the cake was wrong! Definitely not what I expected for an $85 cake. Her photos on her IG page do not match her actual results. 1st photo is her first attempt that did not meet my specifications - 2nd photo is her second attempt with the incorrect icing color and clunky writing- 3rd photo is the final result. Was hoping for a better experience based on all of the great reviews. I was made aware of this bakery through the advertising on the Little Doodles Play Cafe website as a recommended bakery. I contacted the phone number and spoke to someone who I had an extensive conversation with about what I desired for an upcoming 1st Birthday party for my son. The person I spoke to was nice and patient considering I was the typical mom asking tons of questions. At any rate, the conversation ended by the person informing they would send me an invoice breakdown via text displaying what we had discussed with pricing later that day. The next morning I hadn't received anything so I text the number I had and I was a little concerned with the response I received which was received a little over an hour later which said Sorry for the delay, I honestly forgot...sending it now...usually I would have just cancelled because I don't feel that is the best way to treat customers but I tried to give the benefit of the doubt and make the excuse that we all get busy sometimes and said maybe that's what happened. The invoice was thorough as far as what we had discussed the day before but the pricing didn't match what was advertised on the website. Therefore, I responded and asked for an explanation which was provided and acceptable. I was sent some samples to choose from in which I sent the requested selections for the cupcake cake and smash cake. I also ordered cookies. This was a pretty big order to fill but I expected quality for the price I was being charged. I never mind paying for quality. The day before the party, I sent a quick text to check to make sure everything was coming along and I just got a text back that everything was great and see you tomorrow. I was expecting pictures so that I could get a preview which I feel is a reasonable request but wasn't offered any. At any rate, we showed up for the party at 2:20pm and the order hadn't arrived and the party host there said she hadn't heard that there was going to be a dessert order there...this could have been miscommunication on their part there but I was told it would be there by 2pm. The party was to start with guest arriving at 2:30pm. Due to my concern, the party host contacted her boss who said that someone text her and informed her that it would be arriving at 2:30pm. I feel it would have been nice if I had received a text also. Nevertheless, everything was brought in. The smash cake was fairly plain and not exactly like the sample picture but it was a smash cake so I figured I shouldn't be too disappointed but I did pay $35 for it so it was still expected to be nice and look like the sample which didn't appear to be an overly complicated design. My baby boy wasn't for smashing cakes so that was a no go and we still haven't had the chance to cut or taste it yet so the verdict is still out on the cake flavor. The cupcake cake looked nice but again not like the sample picture. The icing was extremely thick and the actual cake was more on the dry side....I also heard one of my guest say hers was burnt at the bottom which was upsetting. I paid $70 for these cupcakes so at the very least, I wanted them to taste good. Lastly the cookies were absolutely adorable and captured the intricacies of the baby shark character perfectly. However, some of the cookies were overly crunchy and some were on the softer side. Most guests preferred the softer ones and so did I since I wanted the baby to try it. I paid $70 for these also. So $175 for the total order and I don't feel I really got what my money paid for as far as flavor. Flavor would be more like 2 stars and design is 3.5 stars. For the price, I probably wouldn't order items from here again. Thankfully, my family was more excited about the occasion than focusing too much on the quality of the dessert which is usually a big deal at these gatherings.
