Beautiful afternoon setting! The Little Lost Kitchen or "Lost Kitchen" in Freedom, Maine is a wonderful dining experience. The setting is at an old tool mill with a pretty garden adjacent to a large pond with a bridge. The garden dining setting for lunch has an outdoor fireplace perfect for sitting and reading a book. The kitchen was open, and you can smell the delicious aromas. Wife ordered the roasted beet salad. An amazing arrangement photo worthy. The two piece corn flake fried chicken with coleslaw and a warm biscuit with butter and honey served in a basket was an epicurean's delight. Our friends who have been sending postcards for years for a reservation were absolutely right that the food is amazing! The Shop At The Mill has beautiful crafts. (See the ramekins that look like paper folded condiment containers)

Two pieces of fried chicken. With some very good unique coleslaw.

A great afternoon lunch. It was a lovely afternoon. We got there an hour early. There is no technically RV parking so before cautions call ahead. The food was amazing. The service was great.

While I haven't dined in the main restaurant for dinner, my Mom and I did stay in one of their three cabins, which included breakfast. We, also, had lunch from their Cafe. The restaurant and café are in an old mill on the river in Freedom, Maine. The cabin was beautiful and extremely comfortable. This is glamping in style. Even the bathroom cabin is clean and pretty. They give you heavy, soft robes, there is an electric kettle, with tea or coffee. Saratoga water is in a cooler on the porch. For breakfast the first morning we had lemon, cranberry scones, a coddled egg, bacon, fresh squeezed tangerine juice, and yogurt with homemade granola. For lunch we ordered the fried chicken, which is very juicy, it came with a flaky biscuit with honey butter. I ordered a wedge salad to go with it. It was an entire head of butter lettuce, with bacon, blue cheese and fresh tomatoes. The next morning we were given a red grapefruit with blackberries on top (now I'm not a fan of grapefruit normally, this one was sweet), a vanilla bean panacotta, fresh donuts, a coddled egg and maple sausage. They definitely make sure you don't go hungry. Lol. Everyone was so nice. Truly a wonderful experience.

Probably the best meal I have ever had. This is not just a dinner, this is an experience! From the moment you drive into the parking lot until the moment you leave everything is absolute perfection. I was lucky enough to have dinner here and lucky enough to spend the night in one of the cabins- I would rank it up there with my top life adventures. Erin and Michael and all the staff are absolutely amazing. I got to meet their new dog Pip who gave me a big KISS when I arrived. Though the menu only listed a few courses we had at least 12 and the dinner lasted over five hours. We enjoyed it with delicious wine from their outstanding wine cellar. I have gone to a few of their farmer markets and pop-ups, but the dinner is another experience altogether! Can't wait to go back to the Lost Kitchen next year and experience some more of the wonder and awe!

Absolute perfection at The Lost Kitchen. Nibbles and wine, the setting... we couldn't ask for anything better.

We came from New York with just the purpose of visiting this gem. Had the chicken and biscuit and tasted a friends ham and cheese biscuit. Only one disappointment ..my taste buds want more of that chicken and anything else now is a bland...haha. The scone was very very good. Everyone was awesome from the helpful and inviting staff and also other guests. The ambience is perfect and the place truly is lost if your not looking. Tho I can not come as soon as I would like I will make my way back. Thank you so much for opening my palette to a wonderful treat.

We had a fabulous lunch at Tuesday's summer market day! Fried chicken & a honey butter biscuit that was melt in your mouth scrumptious! Also enjoyed some Thai basil lemonade which was fabulous! The entire campus of The Lost Kitchen is appealing, thoughtful and lovely. The market had a wide range of vendors, all of which had high quality edible merchandise. The wine cellar and store were also quite wonderful. We've been looking forward to going to TLK for years so we really enjoyed our time there!

Where do I begin? My mom and I traveled from Seattle, Wa to Freedom, Me to eat here. It's a lottery system so send in your post cards! This is a quaint restaurant with Michelin style menu and service. My mom and I were lucky enough to get picked in the lottery and we had bar seats, best seats in the house. The bar seats are a bit uncomfortable seeing as how you are there for 5 hours and get about 8-10 courses during your meal. The staff brought out special padding for my moms seat. They noticed her fidgeting in her seat. This review does not even come close to how amazing this place is. I don't even know how to eloquently describe the experience. If you are a foodie or just enjoy fine dining...this is a must! I posted most of the meal but there was also a cold tomato soup, a baby bib lettuce salad, a chocolate candy with rose petals and I'm sure a few other things I'm forgetting.

Erin French is a master host, cook and the creative mind behind The Lost Kitchen. 13 wonderfully delicious and beautifully presented courses featuring Maine ingredients including sumptuous Halibut. Her renovated mill is cozy and perfectly appointed. Post card reservations only...we got lucky

The most incredible dining experience we've ever had. Their team & love for fresh local ingredients was such a passionate combination and it made it all the more enjoyable to be around it. The dishes were fresh, top quality, and unique. Not enough stars to rate such a valuable place. Also my pictures don't nearly do it justice!!!

There was nothing to compare this small restaurant in the pucker brush of central Maine. My sister-in-law had submitted the postcard, and was selected for a 'Mainer's' night - we drove up from Virginia for this once-in-a-lifetime dinner. The 11 courses of food were delicious. The service was comfortable. The ambiance was wicked good. The below photos (taken by Phil) display how impeccable each course was presented.

To say that this was an amazing experience for us is not enough. Since seeing the tv show, I have longed to visit Erin's restaurant. I have yet to actual experience her dining service. We were able To snag an overnight in one of her cabins. The entire experience was like a rugged outback five star hotel , if all those words can go together. Every detail was anticipated and planned for; care and love evident from the quality of the bedding , to the dried and fresh flowers decorating our scented hand towels and our welcome appetizer and drink tray. It was spotlessly clean, beautiful and relaxing. The coffee prep - which is super important to us - was delightful and throughly satisfying. Breakfast that was fresh, locally sourced and unobtrusively delivered to our doorstep- it was so many layers of pure delight! Even the outhouse gets 5 stars !! Well done and so inspirational!

Ask the Community - The Lost Kitchen

When will they close for the year? Will anything still be open after October 16th, 2025?

Who knows if I'll ever win the lottery just wondering if anyone had experienced eating here with food allergies? The 3 big ones I can't eat are dairy, gluten and egg I also can't eat tomatoes, avocado, banana, kiwi and coffee bean.

I don't think that this is the dining experience for you. Very high probability that there would be too many items you would not be able to enjoy.

Is there more than one entree choice per service night?

There is a set menu with only 1 entree option. However we actually had 10 courses or small bites (even though they advertise 4) so you get plenty of food.

Do you know the menu ahead of time? Just curious because I eat anything but if I was to be chosen, the person that would go is quite picky.

I am almost positive this is a definite "no", especially if your postcard is chosen at the beginning of the season. Erin and team work with local farmers & fishermen to come up with their daily menus. It's up to what Mother Nature provides at that… Read more

Is The Lost Kitchen wheelchair accessible?

How much does it cost to eat here per person? Watching the show, I'd think it's very expensive, but I saw a post 6 years ago it was $75.00 per person, but that was 6 years ago.

Its $200.00 per person not including alcohol. Its a bargain!

Are there any places to stay nearby?

Not really. You will need to stay in Camden or somewhere else nearby. Its a short 20 min drive and lots of options.

What is the 'dress' for the Lost Kitchen? Can a gentleman go in shorts and jersey? or chinos the better choice?

I think if you are lucky enough to get in here when over 20K cards are sent in, I would not wear shorts. It is not fancy per se, but I think at least wear long pants.

Yelp says they are open Wednesday-Saturday. Is that true? I can't find anything on their website. Trying to plan a group visit.

I believe it is; however, you cannot just plan a visit. Reservations are taken once a year via a postcard lottery. You can read all about it on their website. Reservations are closed for this year, but you can probably be added to a wait list. I… Read more

When do they open for the year? We will be in the area May 1-5 and I can't tell if that would be before they open in "the beginning of May".

Just curious what it runs to eat here per person anyone know?

Funny you should ask that. After our dinner we convened at a hotel and talked about the myriad servings we'd experienced. I think the cost per person was about 105.00, which for a combo birthday-anniversary evening isn't bad (not counting wine). We… Read more

What is the cost per person? And is it BYOB too, or do you have to buy wine from the wine shop downstairs?

135.00PP. Not BYOB as they have a wine shop you buy bottles from and take them into the restaurant. However I saw a few people bring bottles in with them from home and no one said a thing.

Coolers are stocked with so many delicious treats. Mostly cheesecakes, but they also had carrot cake and whoopie pies and perhaps more that I didn't see, because I was so excited my head was kind of spinning :) Everything is well labeled, the prices are streamlined and there is a cheat sheet on the center table with payment instructions.
