When I vacation here the Harborwalk restaurant is always on my go to list. This time of year they have fried fiddle head ferns which are delicious. The fried haddock bites are possibly the best fried fish I've ever eaten. We came in for my friend's birthday. I called to make a reservation told him that it was going to be his birthday so I wanted a chocolate cake at the end.. so coming in I made a reservation for 7 o'clock. We sat down. It took kind of a while for the waiter to come over and introduce himself. We got a drink, order appetizers then dinner. By the way my Caesar salad with shrimp was awesome. Everything came out great. I had a job to do in Belfast on a Thursday evening, so I couldn't leave town without trying out a new place to eat. Food was very good. Homemade fries. A little soft, the way I like them with some seasoning to them. Haddock was good, not the best I've had in Maine, but an 8 out of 10. Service was good and fast. It took 10 minutes to get seated with 1 couple ahead of us and a few open tables. It took about 15 minutes to get our onion rings and 15 to get the rest of our food. Rings were mediocre-- the breading had more flavor than the onions. The Harborwalk salad was delicious! We shared that and a combo platter. The scallops were good, the shrimp were too small and the mushrooms were barely OK. Don't waste your time here. They had plenty of staff, but couldn't get their rhythm to work together. Lately (all this year) the french fries are so dark brown, couldn't eat them the last time, wish they'd make them like they used to last year....guessing they're fried 'over and over' to be ready fast for the crowds...the haddock basket used to be longer filet pieces, lightly fried...now the pieces are like haddock bites, not the lightly fried longer pieces served last year...which were the best! Drove 10 hours to get to Maine, and it was worth it for the Harborwalk lobster roll. I only eat lobster in Maine and Nova Scotia, and now I remember why. The problem is the service was likely the worst I've ever had, we walked in and there was no wait. the lady at the desk just stood there and didn't give us a table for probably ten minutes. when we went to the table the waitress got us our food and didn't give any refills for the whole meal. She brought us our check before asking if we wanted it. I said I wanted pie and she went to "put it in." We waited 25 ish minutes and we watched her cut the pie and bring it to us after blaming the kitchen for the wait. She then gave us the check. We hurried out after sitting in a restaurant for an hour and a half for a meal that should have taken 45 minutes. Don't go here. After 10 days in Maine and so, so food and service with exorbitant prices (even pre-season with another 10 days to go) we happened upon this tidy and friendly restaurant next to the town harbor and 1/2 block from the stores of downtown. We were met by the most hospitable and upbeat manager Jessica who welcomed my husband, my greyhound and me. We were seated at an outdoor picnic table with menus and a prompt and happy "thank you for coming here' by Jessica. The food was delicious and we were so overjoyed to have a pleasant server with lovely menu choices. The burgers are gorgeous with perfectly made and seasoned fries, and my blackened haddock sandwich on a gluten free bun was excellent. Add a generous beer menu with about 20 different brews on draught (and a bowl of water for my pup) and you have a good experience that I'd do again in a heartbeat! I've only been here once and it was on the Fourth of July. They were very close to, if not, the only restaurant open in town and were a little slammed. Our server warned us that the kitchen was backed up and our food would likely take a long time but we were seated quickly and got some beers while we waited. The beer and drink selections are great. The food did not actually take long at all. I can't remember everything we ordered, but one dish had fried whole-belly clams in it and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Everything else was decent but I guess not super-memorable. Servers were friendly and professional. We have several other go-to restaurants but, in a pinch, I would not hesitate to go back. I am told they have very good fried, pickled fiddleheads in the Spring so I'll at least try them again then. read more

One of the best places I've been to. We went in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and service for being a little building off the side of the main strip. I believe they use all local and organic products which made a very noticeable difference. The quality of the food was superb. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito which included breakfast sausage. I have never tasted sausage that was so smooth in flavor. Breakfast sausage usually has a 'bite or kick' at the end, but theirs didn't. I can't remember the other ingredients but it was delicious. I ordered the boardwalk huevos, which had black hummus spread on flour tortillas with eggs, home fries , pico de gallo. I ordered it because I was intrigued with hummus and eggs for breakfast. I was not disappointed. The flavored combined very well. The best part for this 10:30 breakfast was the Bloody Mary. I was tempted at first to order it but was hesitant. My mind changed when I saw them being out the drinks for the table next to us. Not only did it look delicious, but they confirmed it was. I went ahead and ordered it and that turned out to be the best BM ever. I think they used a local lobster mix combined with fresh horseradish. It was beautifully fm garnished with lemon/lime/olives and the best part was the pickled fennel head picked locally during the spring. I wish I took a picture of the drink before emptying it. I did get the waitress to bring out another sample of the fennel head for a picture. We missed the happy hour (50% off apps and special drinks) and plan on making it next year for multiple meals. My mom and I ventured into Belfast on our recent Maine road trip. We were hungry and could not seem to find any breakfast options out on Route One, so we decided to try downtown. We passed a small diner which looked very crowded, but considered turning the car around to park in front and give it a shot. Before turning I drove to the very end of Main Street and just happened to see Harborwalk tucked away at the end of the road. A sign outside announced breakfast specials so we stopped in to give it a try. What a great find! Just in time too, as I was becoming quite desperate for coffee. This is a very cute restaurant with a rustic feel. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast menu offers many choices, but I kept it simple with the "Eggs Your Way" scrambled with home fries and bacon. The potatoes definitely passed my home fry test with a great seasoned flavor. There was something about the way the toast was buttered too that just seemed extra yummy. Perhaps it was the bread or maybe just more butter than I typically use. I know it may seem silly, but it was way more delicious than then my boring old toast at home. There is outdoor patio seating on picnic tables located at the side of the building. Most likely there is a view since the harbor runs parallel to this restaurant, but I cannot say for sure since we ate indoors. Lunch and dinner is served here as well and I believe you can also take food to go. A woman had stopped in just ahead of us for a coffee takeout which seemed to be a great idea since their coffee was delicious. Truly a hidden gem to be remembered for breakfast in Belfast. There are better places to sit, eat, have a beer and smell the ocean. Harborwalk is acceptable but don't count on good food. It's fair. We do NOT recommend the crab cakes or the spinach dip. Both were - in a word - wretched. The chowder? Too much butter but yet bland. The men's room: Filthy, sticky floors made worse by negligent patrons with little in the way of good aim. The facilities need more than a lick and a promise to make them sanitary I must tell you. And why so many flies? The wait staff was lovely, though.
