Tucked behind the main drag in Belfast, this food truck and seating area is inviting and a great spot for a bite. The hot dogs are gourmet but I am a vanilla eater so I got the regular hot dog with mustard and relish. Delish. Toppings are on the hot dog when you receive your food so if you want less or more of something on the hotdog you should let them know in advance. Seating area is beside the truck and had fresh flowers on each table. read more

100% a 5+ gourmet hot dog! Maybe the best dog north of Coney Island. Must try! Everything from bun, to toppings, to dog, to presentation, and service was spot on perfect. Highly recommend Moody Dog, Get here, however you can, the trip is worth it! Tons of gourmet dog options and toppings. We had a shroom dog and a BLT dog. See the pics! Those dogs were as good as they look! Maybe better than they look! Service was professional and polite. Out server offered some selection assistance which was helpful and appreciated because there are many gourmet dog choices as well as breakfast all day! Moody Dog is located behind the iconic Rollies Bar in Belfast Maine. Moodys is an eclectic street art decorated stationary food truck with an outdoor seating area. As a bonus part of the seating area has a partial view of Historic Belfast Harbor. Oh and shout out to the onsite owner preparing each delicious and savory work of art! The owner took a few moments to interact with customers between orders. Big plus! And clear sign of owner buy-in and commitment to Moody's customers. We will return, we highly recommend Moodys! There is no way that a reasonable and prudent person can eat just one Moody Dog. That kind of deliciousness deserves to celebrated with at least two or three different hotdogs from this food truck....and at least several visits! I am a lover of sausages and meat in tube form and this small yet mighty truck turns out some of the best. The weiners have great snap and tremendous flavor and are topped with good ingredients (the Morse's sauerkraut never disappoints). Ingredients are nicely proportioned and there is great attention to all sorts of dietary restrictions. Gluten free? They've got food for you. Vegetarian? Gotcha covered too. The menu is huge for a food truck. I was impressed with the patience and kindness of the server. It was so nice to be greeted with a big smile and a sense of humor. So many businesses are stretched to a breaking point with lack of staff so it was wonderful to be welcomed with unhurried patience and appreciation for our orders. I can't wait to go back! read more

If you're looking for a funky, flavorful, and affordable lunch consider the Moody Dog. Operating out of a garishly painted, long-immobile food truck, the proprietors serve up a staggering variety of creatively prepared grilled items, including locally made hot dogs and sausages. The hot dogs are tasty enough to be enjoyed with just a dash of mustard but have enough character to shine under one of the Dog's exotic toppings. I enjoyed their kimchi dog so much I'll be back late this week to sample their authentic looking Chicago style dog or maybe one topped with their homemade collard carrot slaw. out | Lunch | $1-10 This is my absolute favorite lunch spot in Belfast! The menu is creative and inspired. These hot dogs are truly the best I have ever had and made with ingredients you can feel good about - locally sourced meats and organic condiments. The chef/owner makes the most incredible, handmade veggie dogs and you can have them wrapped in a collard green if you want to skip the bun. They're open for breakfast too and make super high-quality breakfast sandwiches. My favorite is the Monty Cristo! I could honestly eat there every single day. I love the freshness of the breakfast sandwiches at The Moody Dog! I have eaten them warm from the grill there on site, at room temperature after taking them home to share, and after I have refrigerated them (by choice) and they have always tasted delicious! I have enjoyed every corndog, gourmet hotdogs, and toppings that I have eaten at The Moody Dog! The staff is courteous and there are outside tables to eat your meal right there on site. And you are close enough to walk to the harbor to eat overlooking the spectacular water views in Beautiful Belfast Maine! read more

Got the bean town which consisted of beans, onions, glizzy, and ketchup and it was superb. Flavors blended in my mouth to make a nice and homey taste. Want to try all the other gourmet ones now because of how good the bean town was. read more

I always hate giving just one star. We ordered three of the Bean Town dogs and took the veggie option. $18 later we get three minimally portioned dogs. It looked like they added three teaspoons of beans on very small veggie dogs that reminded me of a mushy homemade veggie bean burger. I ate mine in three bites and left feeling as if both my stomach and wallet were empty. read more

The dog itself is good but at 5 dollars it is too expensive for a hot dog lunch. And 6 dollars for a vegetarian! The best part is the kraut. It is quality made, served cold to preserve the good enzymes and delicious. I didn't think to ask for regular,"smooth" mustard since they tout their own homemade. Well, you have to really like whole mustard seeds because you get about 1/4 cup of whole seeds on your dog. It really ruined it for me. I was game at first but I could barely get through eating it. It was too intense and unpleasant and it didn't sit well with me afterwards. Not in the nicest part of downtown. You can sit at tables under umbrellas but I was nervous with all the wind, they are barely hanging in there, seeming ready to snap because it looks like someone used a quick fix metal thing at the top. Better fix those things much better than they are now, someone could get hurt. read more

I am Raymelle Moody, Chef and owner of The Moody Dog in Belfast, ME. I was born and raised right here on the coast of Maine. Food has always been my passion, and along with my desire to help reduce my own carbon foot print and create a sustainable business model the concept of The Moody Dog was born. Opened in 2014, serving locally raised meats, hand made veggie dogs with hand made, local/or organic toppings and condiments, it has always been important to us to keep as much of our own dollar within our state borders, supporting local farmers, growers and foragers, and selling Maine made soda, potato chips, cold pressed juices and more! Finally got to the front of the line to order at 12:15 and was served my food 10 minutes later. $38 for a sandwich is steep and it's cash only so you have to carry a lot of cash if you are feeding a family/group. They were already out of the local honey soda since I guess they're getting ready to close for the season (it's mid September). The lady who took our order when we finally got to the counter was nice. After we ordered we sat down at a table to wait, it was a nice day out and you could kinds of see the water. We didn't have a problem finding a table, so there is probably the perfect amount of tables correlated to the somewhat slow single cashier ordering system. The lobster roll was piled high and delicious. The lobster is cold but tasted very fresh. Got it with some warm butter and some lemons. I prefer a warm lobster roll, but this lobster roll was just outstanding. Huge and fresh and tons of meat, including plenty of tail meat where most other places only give you mostly claw meat. It was loaded so high, I had to take like a third of the meat off just so I could fit the sandwich in my mouth, and then I ate the lobster on its own with a fork. Easily the best lobster roll I've ever had. But again, not sure if it was worth the 1.5+ hour wait. I stopped here on our way from Portland to Bar Harbor for a few days, and I actually had the opportunity to stop here again on the way back but opted not to because 90+ minutes is a long time to wait for a sandwich. I'm glad I got to try it for the experience.
