Got the chicken and fries. Delicious. Huge portion and didn't take long to get. Was skeptical but was really good!

I spent a long day tooling around the Laurel Highlands and wanted to get back to Pittsburgh before…read moredark. However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8). I don't think I've had homemade pie that good since gorging at Valois back in my olden grad school days in the South Side of Chicago. What a nice surprise to have such a delicious square meal in a place called Indian Head. FOOD - 5 stars..tasty, reasonably priced diner fare exceeded my expectations AMBIANCE - 4 stars...clean and spacious diner SERVICE - 5 stars...friendly server made a big difference TOTAL - 5 stars...if I'm ever in western Pennsylvania, I'd be back RELATED - Exploring the Pittsburgh area? Kind of a cross between a sports bar with TVs and projector screens, as well as dark walls and dark wood dining. It was pretty quiet when we were there - kind of weird being a weekend evening, We started with some appetizers: bruschetta, steak egg rolls, and fried pepperoni. The bruschetta was good - executed properly and textbook. The bread was toasted but a soft bite - just the right amount of tomato and balsamic. The steak egg rolls were also very good - had a kick with cherry peppers inside. Comes with ranch as a dipping sauce. The fried pepperoni was different. The breading struggled to stay on the pepperoni but it was good overall. For my entree I went with the red chicken parm. It comes with pasta (billed as made from Scratch) and red sauce. There were two hamburger-sized chicken pieces, breaded with cheese and a small amount of sauce on top. I felt like the cheese on the top was scarce - should be more. Upon first bite, I was throttled with the flavor of salt, heavy heavy salt. I tried the other piece and the same. I don't mind salt items but this breading reminded me of overuse of the chicken seasoning pack in ramen, and was just over the top. Pasta was ok. For dessert - since I didn't eat much of the entree, I went with the chocolate cake. Holy hell it's massive. The picture doesn't really do it justice. It was immense. Cake was good - though kind of dry at times. Our waitress was nice - attentive and responsive to us throughout the meal. Would try again - I would say really this is closer to a 3 than a 4 but. Whichever.

It was midweek and we had the ENTIRE place to ourselves. We stayed in cabin 10 and it was fantastic. Great loft and king size bed, wonderful linens, great bathroom, nice porch. A higher-quality coffee machine would be nice. It was so great to get away from Baltimore and enjoy the peaceful serenity of W. Maryland and WV. We wish there had been more staff and people around but we made the best of the area by visiting Frostburg and many local restaurants and coffee shops. This place is closed for now but might reopen under state ownership.

Walking in, the ambiance was cozy and rustic with a large festive decorated tree and a roaring fireplace. The menu was pretty extensive and had a lot of options to choose from. Although they were out of a few options we tried to order, our server was SO KIND and comped a bottle of wine for us, which truly just was above and beyond service. Everything we ordered was delicious! The crab dip, the steak frites, the salmon + Cajun risotto, and the pinot noir were all excellent. Only -1 star because the road to get here is not for the faint of heart! It is essentially 1.5 miles of narrow backroads, with a lot of pot holes, and in the pitch black December night it was a bit worrisome to drive. I 100% recommend having an SUV to get here. Hopefully they will be able to make some improvements to the road because it is not in great shape.
