If there was 2 & 1/2 stars that's what I would rate them due to it's very beautiful and great views in dinning room.servers were not very friendly we stood at the bar for about 5 mins waiting for the server to look up at us .she never did .so Finley we said excuse me like 4 times she said she would get the bartender to help us. All we wanted was a table ,cause we stood at the front with no help that's why we walked up to the bar. Argh... So we finally sat .a man was playing the piano very romantic . Our food was barley warm. We were never checked on to see how our food was.:(((just not very friendly. So about our room very small but is to be expected in a older hotel. Toilet would barely flush it would go all the way to the top almost over flow then some what go down . just going pee have to flush 3 times wow good thing we didn't have to go #2 .. Husband took a shower and got scalding hot water bursts 3 times in one shower I never used the water while he was in the showering so had to be a neighbor. These things are easy fixes and for them to claim a 5 or even four stars this was not except able we told them when we checked out and told them . They said ohh really? Sorry .. she could care less just lip service.. read more

My husband and I went in November approx. the 18th or 19th, 2018 for a quick getaway and to look at some property. We've been here before and loved it. I love all the old antiques and the charm of this lodge. On this particular trip we arrived early it was about 11:00 am and check in is around 3:00 pm we went in just to check if by chance a room was ready. Unfortunately there wasn't one yet which we understood and left. We sat in the parking lot and decided to go have lunch but before we left we got a hold of our realtor. Our realtor told us we would be out for quite a while possibly till 6:00 pm. My husband decided to ask the front desk if they would call us when a room was ready, we might be eating or close by and could get rid of everything we had in our vehicle. However, when my husband asked the front desk clerk, Jessica, she was very rude and refused. I've worked at many hotels when I was in college and know she could have done this if she wanted but it was ok that she refused. What upset me was her rude behavior and the way she spoke to us. We will try the lodge again and hope we don't get, Jessica, again. Maybe it was just a bad day for her? Let's hope. read more

Two years ago my husband wanted to do something special for our 8 year anniversary. He planed out this whole deal weeks in advance with all kinds of bells and whistles. When we got there they had a wedding going on. None of the thing. That we're planed for we're in our room. He called down to the front desk and they said we will take are of it right away. We checked in Thursday night and by Sunday they still had done nothing to rectify and told us they would credit our credit card and that took almost a month to fix. We were totally ignored the whole time we were there. But it was a beautiful place and we divided to give them the benefit of they were completely overwhelmed from the wedding that we went back the next year. We should have gone someplace else. Once again nothing was in our room this time they put the credit directly to our account and didn't charge us as much for the room. Their breakfast is terrible but there is this great little dinner across the street with fabulous coffee and at a great price. On the second trip we were 10 min early for our dinner reservation but it took 40 min to even be acknowledged. Once seated it took 20 min for a waiter and another 45 min for our first course. The manager simply did not care and she was the same one from the past year. We never had a honeymoon and we were really hopping to make this a yearly thing. This year we just stayed home. read more

Went there for a large group event. Service was fantastic, except the bat could not keep up with our thirsty party. Our server was very attentive, polite and entertaining. The entrance was very nice with the large fireplace with the copper hood. The food was good. We had all the hors d'ouevres that they offer. I enjoyed the crab cakes, escargot and shrimp cocktail, although one of our shrimp was not cleaned properly. Dinner was delicious, the special was an 8oz sirloin with a layer of crab on top of a potato cake with asparagus. I am only rating 3 stars because when you are paying as much as this meal costs, you hope for better consistency. I ordered my steak medium, it was unevenly cooked. Medium in the middle, medium-well on the ends. The parts that were medium were delicious. My other party members had the same issues with consistency and one person even sent back her steak to have it cooked rare. Dessert was delicious, I recommend the carrot cake. I would try again, but I worry consistency with quality may be their issue. Service was excellent. read more

The Lodge is quaint Victorian charm in the common areas, but the rooms are way over priced and nasty. I had to switch rooms at night as I didn't appreciate finding a tick in my bed along with dried semen (?) on my bed blanket. I complained and got a different room with a nasty toilet that barely flushed. Management was dismissive and never responded with an apology. Motel 6 has cleaner rooms for a lot less money. I don't recommend this overpriced place until they can clean the rooms and make renovations. Shame on them. read more

We arrived at the Lodge Monday 03/11/2019 and walked into the dinning room at 12:02 because I looked at my watch and the sign says at 11:30 dinning room is open. There was a man seated at a table on his laptop with paperwork in front of him by the bar who looked as though he could be the manager, never acknowledged us and we waited. I glanced back towards the check in counter and no acknowledgement there either and we continued to wait. I asked my brother where he wanted to sit and we decided by the front window to enjoy a good view while we would dine on good food and we waited. There were employees moving in and out of the kitchen and I would say we had been there a good 12 minutes before a woman finally asked if she could help and we said yes 4 minus please which she replied "I will be right back." And we waited, so close to 12:30 I looked at my brother and we both said lets go somewhere that they care about the service. As we walked up towards the dinning room entrance the waitress who was supposed to bring our menus is on her cell phone talking with a friend of hers. Her expression was she could have cared less and as I walked by the front desk I made mention of how there was No Service at all and no one there took notice or tried to be of service. The Lodge at Cloud Croft is Not like it use to be, a place which offered good service and great food and now I will never go back there again and I am telling all my friends from this day forward to beware of the Worst Service in New Mexico the now useless Lodge at Cloud Croft. DO NOT EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME COMING HERE! read more

The gentleman at the front desk was very very nice as were the other folks that work here. The problem is that the hotel got great reviews back in 1902 (something that mentioned in the literature in the room) - unfortunately everything has stayed the same .... same carpet, bed, mattress and so on. I appreciate old world charm .... but this was rough!!! Not a place we will be going back to ever again. read more

I'm being a bit generous with 3 stars. Just got back from an overnight. Booked the "Saturday night special" one night, Sunday brunch for two included $208. Great history and ambiance. Room was clean and spacious for an old historic lodge of this type. Very friendly staff. Arrived to 30" of snow from the night before...beautiful!!! Requested 1 hr. early check in, room not ready...all good, thought we'd just grab a hot drink and sit by the fireplace after a long drive. Irish coffee served up cold and no fire in the fire place...lame. Got up to our room...ready for a hot shower and some down time before dinner. No water pressure for shower. Took forever to get enough water in the 3/4 sized tube to take a lukewarm bath. Dinner at Rebecca's...dining room is very nice with great views. Dinner was disappointing. Chicken Alfredo served with doughy egg noodle and sauce that was more like a chicken pot pie. Salmon was delicious but barely warm. Rice was cold and the asparagus was tough and woody. Warm bread, frozen butter. $30 a plate, I felt ripped off. Had a couple drinks after dinner in the bar. Good service and great conversation with other guests. Comfortable bed and a good night's sleep. Woke up to a broken coffee maker in the room. Got dressed and then down two flights of stairs to scrounge a couple cups. Complimentary coffee in the bar but the paper cups were so small that it wasn't worth the trip down from the room. Back upstairs to put on boots and grab truck keys to head to town to grab a couple decent sized cups of coffee and a bagel from the bakery...Brunch and check out is at 11 and there was nothing put out to snack on at the hotel to hold over the early risers until then. Brunch was very good and worth the wait. Lots of hot, very tasty, well prepared selections to choose. It was an "OK" stay, but a "one and done" experience for me. read more

The Lodge Resort is an old but beautiful historic building, and the rooms are nice enough. The location has a beautiful view of the New Mexico Mountains. The diner in the lodge is expensive and expected of fine dining in a mountain village; however, they brought us cold bread with butter and changed it right away. The gentleman next to us had them recook his steak because it was cold. Perhaps an off night for the cooks. Be sure and ask not to be placed on the third floor. I am okay with no elevators because it is an old building, but for the price of the rooms, we did not have hardly any water pressure for the bathtub and shower. When I asked the lady at the front desk why they did not tell us this, her comment was, it comes and goes, and maintenance says it healthy to have low pressure. The shower pressure is small and hard to adjust the hot and cold. Otherwise, the room is comfortable with a good heater. I was disappointed with the response I got from the staff about the problems. I don't believe they care about my concern as a customer. Hopefully, they will let others know about the low water pressure and issues with the cold and hot on the shower when they inquire about the rooms. Also, they advertise a fitness center but it isn't open anymore. read more

The best part about The Lodge was the history of the hotel (which is supposedly haunted but she must be a very friendly ghost!), the lovely stained glass windows and details of the hotel, the crisp, cool mountain air, and surroundings. We stayed over Father's Day weekend for two nights. Our room was a bit run down and we found a pair of men's boxers in our bed upon arrival. (eew!) Housekeeping was rude and kept knocking on the door in the morning even though we hung a "Do not disturb" sign on the door. This was especially annoying since this trip was a gift to my husband who works long hours on the night shift so he could relax and recharge. Unfortunately that never happened. The Jacuzzi was also not working even though I called ahead to check on that before booking. Even with those issues we made the most of things and had a nice time. We particularly enjoyed eating at the restaurant, Rebecca's although it was hilarious to me that we arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation to an empty restaurant and the hostess had us wait in the lobby saying she would have to find us a table and it could take up to 20 minutes. Why? There was literally no one there. Once we were seated it was nice to listen to live piano music and watch the sun set. We enjoyed the table made salad. Bottom line: This is a pretty resort with a lot of potential and there is plenty to do in the area for families but they are in need of better housekeeping. read more

We had a fun, relaxing time at this hotel! We stayed there one night (and wished we'd stayed more) on our honeymoon trip. The drive there is beautiful! And the lodge itself has a great view of the mountains and the desert beyond. It's an old place, so it has some quirks, but that just added to the atmosphere for us. We stayed in the honeymoon suite, which has appropriately old-fashioned furnishings, but had a nice Jacuzzi tub. We made sure to visit the tower and enjoyed some walks around the grounds. The weather was fantastic (we were escaping the August heat in Texas). The restaurant had that elegant big-old-hotel feel to it - we enjoyed a 6-course lobster dinner there. And of course, it was fun reading about the ghost. We bought some nice things in the quaint shops there - not your run-of-the-mill hotel shops, thank goodness. We'd like to go back sometime and stay longer! read more

My husband and I wanted to take a quick trip to the mountains so we chose Cloudcroft, NM. The Lodge was beautiful in pictures online, but when you get there it doesn't really look anything like what I had expected. The food was good, very expensive. If you book to stay at the lodge make sure you are booking the lodge, We were booked into the PAVILLION, which states it's only a short walk from the main building...NOT more like half a mile down the road. Payed a lot of money to stay in some seperate building that didnt have anything to do with the main building. Too expensive. Not worth the experience. read more

Do yourself a favor and find someplace else to go. The Lodge is alleged to be " the best accommodations are at the elegant and historic Lodge at Cloudcroft." The only truth in that statement is "historic". It is definitely neither the best nor elegant and I guess, its age qualifies it as historic. Admittedly they have made a grand effort, blatantly unsuccessfully I might add, at converting what may have been considered elegant during and pre World War II era into acceptable accommodations. I am only giving them credit for the effort because it cannot be easy to convert accommodations which provided one or two bathrooms per floor to accommodations with a bathroom in every room. They have that, if you are OK with having half the tub full of water after taking a shower. But how much usable space have they left for the rest of the room? Forget elegance. How about space to just walk around the room without bumping into a wall or some furniture or a TV projection or a totally useless dresser without access because it is blocked by a useless rocking chair. Many 2 star Motels are far superior to this "Historic" facade. It also happens to sport a, so called, French restaurant, Rebecca's, on the premises. That place has succeeded in bastardizing both French and American cuisines with one shot. For dinner, try a diner instead. The same goes for the noisy bar attached to it. Elegant, indeed!!! We had booked for 2 nights on the occasion of my wife's birthday. Thought that in the process we might check out the place for a possible monthly get away for our group. We checked out as early as we could the next morning. In our hurry to get away, my wife left behind a cosmetic article. We contacted them the following day and were told they located it and would forward it directly. That was 2 weeks ago. We have since been told, because WE followed up, that no one knows of any such article and calls are not being returned. That pretty much sums up "The Lodge". Final words, don't be fooled by the facade. Take a good look and go check in at a motel in Alamogordo or even in Las Cruces. You''ll be glad you got away and you will be happier and more comfortable. read more

Didn't golf. Didn't eat in the restaurant. Went for the haunted/historic Governor's Suite and Rebecca's Bar. I drove from Tucson, Arizona for a couple of days of this and it was totally worth it. The room was full of antiques and sufficiently creepy. Spend a couple of extra bucks and stay in this room. Too cool. While it was drafty at times, it just added to the old hotel's flavor. Make sure you ask for keys so that you can check out the tower, where Clark Gable and Judy Garland carved their names in the wall. I believe it is the highest point in Cloudcroft (and that is saying something). Great view of everything all the way out White Sands. Cloudcroft is a great, little mountain town. The staff are nice and the drink prices were completely reasonable. Mad props for offering a gluten free menu. Didn't take advantage of it, as I couldn't find any reviews of it (and I'm very sensitive) though. read more
