I like to stay here cause there is plenty of parking and close to a nice walking trail among aspen trees. At the end of the trail is the family dollar. Across the street is a pizza joint. I enjoy the fireplace when it is cold, which is September to may. The town is changing, becoming more touristy. Lots of hiking trails close by and shopping downtown. read more

We LOVE Spruce Cabins! Not only is the customer service top notch, the cabins are amazing! You can easily book EXACTLY what you want only for just the deposit of the first night. The prices are incredible too! Our favorite cabin is number 16 and it sleeps 4 people with a queen bed, two twin beds, and a kitchen plus a full bathroom with a fantastic tub and a fireplace! It's just $100/night for the entire cabin! That's insane to me! Everything is crazy clean and you are in the mountains with that fresh air with ample parking. If you are arriving after the office closes, they will leave the key to your cabin for you with your name on it. They are some of the best cabins in the area for easily the best price! Our best family memories have been made here! When we come to Cloudcroft, we automatically book here and would never want to go anywhere else! read more

We visited Spruce Cabins over Christmas 2013. Overall it was a nice stay and I would recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing vacation in the mountains. When we arrived it was a bit of a mess - it had just snowed 14 inches, it was still snowing, and we arrived after the sun had set. Before we left for the trip, I was informed by Terri (the owner) that they did not have an electronic copy of the map. This would've been extremely helpful for us as first time visitors so I will upload a picture of it. Unfortunately looking at the map after a full day of driving and everything being covered in a foot of snow in the dark...we drove too far and got one car in our party stuck. In that same area, I saw the cabin that I thought was ours because it had our assigned cabin number on it. Apparently there are OTHER cabins in this development that are numbered in a similar fashion so be aware! Spruce cabins are red with green trim and any other cabins are privately owned. The cabin itself was clean and as promised in the photos. Our cabin provided dinnerware, a pan, a pot and a few serving/cooking utensils along with dish soap, one roll of paper towels and a couple of trash bags. We treated this trip as if we were going camping so we brought what we thought we would need as if we were walking in to an empty cabin and it made our stay more comfortable. Things I would recommend: -Hand soap pump -Paper towels -Toilet paper -Dish sponges -Trash bags -Any pots and pans you plan to use -Kitchen utensils (peeler, rubber spatula, etc) -Extra pillows/blankets -Food for all meals We had a problem with our heater the first night but when I informed them the next day they came and fixed it. It was a cheap propane heater but it keeps the place warm enough. They are also a dog-friendly group with reasonable terms for bringing your pooch along on your trip. We were not able to have any fires because our living room was stuffed with two giant dog kennels, but if you were so inclined they provide fire wood for your use. I think these cabins are a good value if you'd prefer something between a hotel stay and camping. I will definitely be staying here again on future trips. read more

So in reading reviews there were good and bad. We needed a place to accept our two larger dogs and they would, that was a plus. The other good was the bed was fairly comfortable. I also called and asked the office to please turn heat on as well as leave another blanket and it was supposed to be pretty cold. She did these things for us. Now the down side. Understand I am a nitpicker but some of these things were not acceptable. First we find two towels and two wash cloths, no hand towels and I have long hair so a third towel would have been very helpful. I went to the dollar store in town and purchased my own hand towels. Plenty of toilet paper but only a handful of paper towels. The sink had far too much hair in it, the mirror was not clean, the wall has dried toothpaste splatter all over it, just gross. Now to the kitchen/living area. Again very few paper towels and upon arrival I spilt a little water on the floor and as I wiped it up my paper towel was very dirty. We had to move the couch to find a dog toy, lets just say it's been a while since they had cleaned under that or the kitchen table. I didnt except this to be the Taj Mahal but I did expect clean. Went to put leftover pizza in the oven only to find there were NO baking pans only stove top pots and pans. The freezer could use a defrosting and the prior occupants food should have been removed from the freezer. Now the bed area. The bedding was clean and crisp with warm blankets. One night stand so on my side I had to make one out of a small cooler and a hard side shopping bag, I have a picture and it's sad that I had to do this. Move the bed over a tad and find a small tall table to put here. I had a drink, my glasses, cell phone, etc. and needed a spot. The big issue for me was cleanliness, especially floors as there is no excuse for renting these out dirty. And secondly if you are going to advertise full kitchen then have the things needed for use with the oven as well as stove top. No bisquits for us. The heating unit is filthy. It would take a couple minutes each cleaning to keep it clean. The stains on the floors looked disgusting. I did not list or show everything but trust me a good cleaning crew is worth a 5 star review. Small things and this cabin would be much more comfortable. On a good note, office staff were very friendly. read more

Don't stay here. My wife and I have enjoyed many visits to Cloudcroft over the years. We stayed at Spruce Cabins on our last two visits. The facilities were okay. Nothing fancy or elegant, but sufficient for our simple needs. Our most recent visit was less pleasant than the first. We had to tolerate a leaking roof that allowed rain water to drip in our bathroom. Messy and annoying. We planned another trip to Cloudcroft a few days ago so I booked another stay at Spruce Cabins. Our plans changed (circumstances beyond our control) and we had to cancel our trip. I canceled our reservations five days in advance of the reserved date and asked them to reverse the charge on my credit card. They responded by stating that the deposit was non-refundable so I have to pay $106.48 for services that were never used. I copied/pasted and printed their policies (Word document, 3 pages) for reference. Their policies do state that a deposit is non-refundable. So, they subtly bury two words, "NON-REFUNDABLE" in three pages of text. That's not the way ethical businesses operate. (By the way, I have a MBA and I own my own business. I certainly don't run my business on the same standards as Spruce Cabins.) Don't be taken. There are plenty of other good, and better, lodgings in Cloudcroft. Use one of them instead. read more

This place is disgusting ! The place was filthy. Mold in the shower. Bugs crawling on bathroom floor. Bath towel for window covering on the front door. No bar soap provided. Trim hanging off the ceiling. No globe over light in bathroom (just a bare bulb). We paid over $100 a night to stay in cabin 20. If the health department saw this they would shut it down. We will NEVER stay in this place again. read more

I can't speak for all their cabins but 6 and probably 7 has a ridiculously small bathroom. The pic that is posted of it is intentionally deceptive. You actually have to open the door and turn sideways to wipe your butt. The edge of the sink is over the edge of the toilet. I wish I could post pictures. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!! Its a different owner, the office is never opened and Paula isn't the nicest person on earth. If you have a problem or need accomodations don't expect any kind of help nor common courtesy. We are extremely disappointed and angry we were not listened to. In the past years it has been pleasant. We didn't get a military discount. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Thanks for such a horrible experience. We will never be back again. read more

I'm not one to ever leave negative reviews but this one needs to be put out there. I booked a stay at Spruce Cabins after reading several good reviews. Arriving to the cabin, it seemed cozy and clean. First night there, started to pull back the covers to crawl in bed...only to find the white sheets wrinkled, dirty and covered in tiny black hairs!!! Called the emergency line listed in our room. Waited for a call back and once we finally got it, NO apologies were offered for their oversight of CLEARLY not changed sheets. They did come to change our bedding, however still didn't own up to their mistake or seem apologetic whatsoever! We were told it was "no big deal" and that when sheets are folded, they sometimes pick up debris from the floor. This was NOT debris, it was disgusting hair from God knows who/where. Upon our checkout we decided to bring up the fact that we were never offered an apology for the issue. We were told again that it was no big deal since they 'fixed it right away'. Unacceptable and horrible way to treat customers. We won't be staying here ever again and I advise you to check your sheets before you sleep in their beds! And if there is an issue with your stay, don't expect them to apologize or take blame for any mistakes!!!! read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Spruce Cabins in Cloudcroft last weekend for 3 nights. We stayed in cabin (unit) #3. We loved it. It's a small cabin but has everything that we needed. The cabin was very clean and everything worked as it should. It got a little cold at night and the heater worked just fine. I was surprised that they had internet, which I needed since all we have is a pc. Dishes, silverware, TV, comfortable bed, we were VERY pleased. The owners are very friendly. The town of Cloudcroft is beautiful and all the people are friendly as well. It must be the air up there. Thanks for everything Teri and Tim....we will be back. read more

After being on a road trip for 4 months and stating in budget motels and campgrounds this was a great break. Suuuuuper cozy, great heat and a fire place. Tons of wood for 2 nights. We drove up here from El Paso because we missed snow (originally from the east coast). The property was rustic but beautiful and we really enjoyed being able to spend time in the snow. Unfortunately the cabins were garbage. Our pipes froze in the middle of the night so we couldn't use the bathroom. There was no wood available for the fire place and when I asked at the front desk they told me to go to the wood shed to get more....unfortunately it was empty. I was able to find some wood by digging through the snow around the wood shed....but when your paying over $100 a night I would expect these types of problems to not exists. The staff at the front desk didn't seem to concerned in the morning when I told them about the issues we had. They said it was my fault that I didn't have water because I didn't call thier emergency number. Anyway, the area is beautiful and there are lots of other cabin options. I would not recommend staying here in the winter. read more
