Such a cute little place! Very basic motel, but well-kept and a very clean breakfast area. The owner (assuming, but the person checking us in anyway), was very friendly and sweet. I think we were the only people staying that night during the off-season. Best part was that they had sleds to borrow! I didn't know sledding was a thing at White Sands, but they had a prominent note at check-in. Though sand sledding does not beat snow sledding, I was so glad we had them, or I might have been tempted to get one at the Park shop for $25! Spent two days there . Room recently updated .Horrible smell of varnish. Sheetrock dust everywhere. Windows covered in dust. Room looks like it came out of 1978. We spent one night here while visiting White Sands National Park. The motel is an old motel, built decades ago, but it's well maintained. Our room was a bit small and somewhat dated, but again, well maintained. We liked the hotel's location at the south end of town. We ate just a few doors down at the winery, which was good, and were told the Asian restaurant next to the hotel was good. The hotel has sleds you can borrow to go sledding at the national park, which was cool. We checked out, took 2 sleds to the park, went sledding, then returned them to the motel. They provide a free breakfast but it was rather disappointing. Overall, I thought this was a good place and I would stay here again. read more

We booked 2 rooms at white sands motel and I was surprised with all the amenities there. Each room had a mini fridge, microwave, and TV. They served breakfast in morning which was a quick grab and go because of covid. I thought the blankets could be more thicker but I wouldn't be complaining so much. The place is in a prime location, a lot of food stores around the place, so that was a plus point too. We checked out in morning and went on the hike. While we were coming back we wanted to stop by the place again to use the rest room and the lady just offered the keys to our room again to use it as long as we want. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Not one to stay in chain hotels when there is coolness like the White Sands Motel! We were there to see family and I did the Yelp thing to find a motel/hotel. White Sands stood out above even the standard Holiday Inn's etc. It is a family owned motel. Looks like one of the old Roadway Inns. The family has taken beautiful care of it and every room has been updated. The front desk service was exceptional- very nice to answer any and all questions. One of the nights I decided I wanted to take pictures of the cool flashing Sands sign in the front. To my disappointment it was turned off. One of the owners (or night manager?) was outside closing down things and asked if he could turn the sign back on for me so I could take a picture. WHO DOES THAT?! So fun. Another fun note- we decided to all go sledding at White Sands National Monument. The motel has a whole stack of sleds by the ice machine in the front. When we asked about them they told us it was the honor system. Take as many as you need- but bring them back for others to enjoy. DONE AND DONE! Friendly service and rooms are clean. They just got new beds and while I was having the complementary breakfast I was chatting with another guest, who also loved his bed. At the time, I enjoyed a cup of coffee, with oj and some toast. They also have blueberry muffins and little boxes of cereal too, not just a danish and coffee like most places! Room rates are very reasonable and there is plenty of places to eat up and down the strip, even a few that are in walking distance! This place was exactly what I needed after a long hot day of driving the backroads of New Mexico. Clean, quiet, A/C, and a fridge were all perfect for this roadtripper. A lot of times the cool mid-20th century vintage motels are sketchy, but not this one! I was delighted to find fresh white sheets, courteous front desk staff, a full ice machine, an affordable rate, and a sweet vintage neon sign to boot! Comfy bed (and we are picky), great water pressure in the shower/tub, fridge and microwave were both spotless and worked great, a/c kept our room nice and cool, we received a friendly welcome even though we were a very late arrival. I'll admit, after decades of traveling for business I'm a hotel snob and not typically one who stays in motels. Staying at this motel was the result of my wife making our reservations and not mentioning it to me until we pulled into the parking lot (she likes to try cute or interesting places to stay). The White Sands Motel is a bargain and a half. When local hotels room are typically $80 and up per night, you'll find a great budget motel in the White Sands Motel. For $44/night, I got a single room complete with fridge, microwave, and FREE wifi. This compared to the Santa Fe Hilton, where I stayed a few nights before...they're $150/night and don't have a fridge, microwave, or free Internet. The room was very clean, though clearly hadn't been updated in a long time. That, however, was part of the charm of the place for me. I'm a bargain hunter and don't usually stay in top-of-the-line hotels. My room came with a double bed, nightstand, small 2-person dining table with chairs, and a desk. One of my favorite features in the room? A power strip, where I easily plugged in my laptop and external hard drive. Unusual for ANY hotel. I found the staff quite friendly. There's a free continental breakfast each morning from 7-10am, though I didn't sample it. I was too busy enjoying my ol' New Mexico cuisine. Speaking of cuisine, there are restaurants within 2 or 3 minutes walking distance. Everything is with easy driving distance. White Sands National Monument, International Space Hall of Fame, Cloudcroft and Ruidoso. Alamogordo isn't a large town, so it's all within convenient driving. For my first visit to White Sands National Park, I reviewed Yelp for a recommended hotel. I rely heavily on Yelp reviews when traveling in new areas, because I believe folks are normally quite candid with their comments. At least I am! The White Sands Motel met and, for me, exceeded their review average. The owner who checked me in was very pleasant, offered recommendations for a local restaurant, and offered me fresh fruit and pastries after informing me the continental breakfast was closed due to the pandemic. When she saw I wasn't alone, she also offered me a room upgrade. The room was spotless, including the fridge and microwave, and smelled spring-fresh and not like industrial disinfectant. Ample towels, a brand-new mattress, and more than worth the truly reasonable room rate. Can't recommend this lodging more highly. I've stayed in every type of hotels and resorts across the country for work-related activities, the majority 5-star, nationally recognized properties like The Broadmoor in Colorado or The Hotel Villagio in Napa. No, the White Sands Motel isn't the Villagio, but the rooms are just as spotless and the owner is very pleasant. All Covid precautions are enforced. I saw great reviews in Yelp. We arrived late on a Saturday. The owner/operator was working and greeted me. He was very friendly and took the time to provide helpful information about restaurants and the national park. Room was very clean and everything worked. Parking was easy and right by the room door. Price was lower then other hotels in the area, making this a hidden gem. The White Sands has that nostalgic old time road trip feel. It was great to still see a piece of Americana and reminds me of the days of traveling America by car. read more

Amazingly clean and courteous staff. Typical 'motor court' interior but grounds quaint with lots of Delft blue and even an adult-type swing. Funny old plastic fobbed physical keys. Nice continental breakfast 6:30-9:30 (on a weekday!) in a room with a floor you could eat from. Bed seemed small for a queen. High-mounted wall unit a/c so hard to control, seemed either too cold or too warm and room too small to avoid draft since vanes on unit not adjustable. Get this, they have clean remote controls! In a container with 'how about a clean remote!', something about which I had never thought. Reasonable rate, $70, thru hotels.com. Small microwave and reefer. Loved it! read more

I chose White Sands Motel for J & myself to stay at while visiting White Sands vs a branded motel/hotel b/c of all the positive reviews on Yelp, and we were not disappointed. PROS: - CLEAN. To the point of looking newish. Impressive. - FRIENDLY. The lady (co-owner?) working reception was so nice. Usually the receptionists I encounter at motels in CA are surly, so this was a pleasant surprise. - CLOSE TO WHITE SANDS NM. Less than 15mi away, making it super easy & convenient to visit. - EXCELLENT TV OPTIONS. Even better than the Hyatt Regency Tamaya in Bernalillo. The TV was fairly large (32 maybe?), and carried a ton of (HD) channels. Watching World Cup matches here was WAY better than at the Tamaya. - FREE DISKS/SLEDS to borrow for sledding down the sand dunes at WSNM. Other notes: - Looks like a standard strip motel from the road, but somehow came across as charming. Alamogordo reminded me slightly of Radiator Springs in the sense that this place sprung up around a main road/highway and relies on tourist traffic. - Continental breakfast is included in the price-- this consisted of cereals, coffee, OJ, fruit, and prepackaged danishes. - Reasonably priced. The total for our one night stay was a little over $60-- not the cheapest option you can find in Alamogordo, but worth it IMO. - Supposedly has free wifi, but I couldn't find/connect to it while we were visiting. OVERALL: I'd stay here again if I ever make a return visit to WSNM. read more

If you need a quite clean, inexpensive room to stay in while in Alamogordo, I can highly suggest this place. The rooms may be small, but are clean, and quiet. It is an older style motel where you park right in front of your door, no stairs to climb up, or long hallways to walk down to look for your room. Sure, it does not have a hot breakfast, lobby, or bar, and the rooms are not suites but it is what it is. A quiet, clean and inexpensive place to sleep, and it does have wifi internet too. If you need a bar to walk to, there are at least 3 within close walking distance. There is an IHOP right by, but when in New Mexico, you should enjoy local New Mexican cuisine instead of chains. Go have breakfast or lunch at Eddies Burritos, with the money you save staying here, but this motel still does have coffee and pastries at the front counter. The only thing I can say that I wish this place had, was in room coffeemakers. read more

For a motel this place was phenomenal! It was cleaner than some hotels I've stayed in abroad. After backpack camping in White Sands for my birthday last week, my friend and I chose this motel because it was close and looked super cute from the outside. The light up motel sign struck me more as nostalgic Americana than dingy, sketchy motel for sure. The beaming paint job in the summer heat made the motel that much more inviting. It's a good thing we judged this book by it's cover because after staying in a crappy motel in Carlsbad, White Sands Motel was worlds of cleanliness away from our expectations. Far beyond. The fridge and bathroom were immaculate. They also included a continental breakfast in the morning; unfortunately we missed out but not a bad combo deal! Bathroom was so clean it almost glowed in the dark. The bed was very comfortable, good mattress. As noted in another review, the shower IS teeny-weeny with a slightly "overpowered" showerhead for the small space. But that's a minor... I don't even want to say "complaint"--it's just an observation. It certainly wouldn't prevent me from visiting again. I recommend this place. For the price, there's no better deal in Alamogordo and the White Sands area. The fact that it reminds me of old stopovers on Route 66 was another huge plus, complete with light up sign. The owner was incredibly friendly and offers a small continental breakfast that included coffee, pastries and cold cereal each morning. The room was small but included a mini-fridge and microwave, and so clean it smelled like laundry - I was giddy when we first opened the door.
