Akron usually disappoints when it comes to places to eat...but here and there good places r starting to pop up. This is one of them...
Now, I have to say, I love eating in metropolitan areas...however, the only con is parking!! There is some street parking out in front of this place, but not much and it's like winning the lottery to actually get one of those spots! Even driving around the blocks I was coming upon meters that were only 15 minutes!! We finally found a meter to park at a couple blocks away. This place is appropriately named as it is directly across from the hub of the area - lock 3.
Was busy on a Friday at about 7. Good sign! We waited about a half hour. The crappy thing tho, is there is really nowhere to stand while all these people r waiting! The host said he could take our number and call us, but there was really nowhere to go, and I didn't want to go walking out in the cold again! Luckily, a group was called to go sit so we took their spot right inside the door by the bar, otherwise I don't know what we would have done.
The ambiance is nice. Bar/restaurant scene. Low lighting, lit candles at each table, bar along the length of one side... Tables down the center and booths along the other side. Don't let the wall of mirrors fool u! The place looks 2x as big when u 1st walk in, then you realize the mirrors! Oh, and I did love the music they play, Older stuff, I'm pretty sure Johnny Cash was singing ....and the old movies playing on the tv's! Godzilla or something similar was on when we were there!!! Great stuff!
Our waitress was efficient. I wanted a Yuengling, but they didn't have that, so she suggested Bell's lager beer. She was spot on! Great recommendation, awesome beer!! So, it's mostly about the cheese sandwich here. I got the #3 and added bacon (our server suggested the bacon as that is how she likes it, and she was right! However, I would have never thought about it as I did not see bacon on the menu)....they use Lakewood bread, a local bread place, and I have to say we all enjoyed the bread our sandwiches were made with. My sandwich was very good, not over the top, but good. Now all sandwiches come with fish crackers, or u can get tarot tots, fries or sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are SOO good! And dip them in blue cheese dressing (this sandwich came with some on the side for dipping), amazing!!!! The others at the table got the panko chicken sandwich. The chicken was juicy and delicious! The breading had amazing herb flavor that I have never really experienced before in all my 40 years of eating! It came with a sauce on the sandwich that was good but needed more. So we got extra side of it, and yes, it did cost 75 cents more, but worth it because it was equally amazing in flavor!! So good, you will want to put it on everything! Also, I personally felt the chicken could have used a piece of mozzarella cheese, it does not come w/cheese, but the others thought it was good just the way it was. We also got the Mac and cheese, not the bites, but a bowl of it, and we had it come out 1st like an appetizer....this is one of the best Mac and cheeses you will ever get in a restaurant! Actually kinda drooling thinking about it!! Oh, and sandwich comes w/a side of coke slaw. Now I love a good cole slaw, this one I would give 7 out of 10...it was ok. Maybe next time I will slather it right on my sandwich.
Ok, so u get the idea... If u come here, u won't b disappointed. read more
