I love fish and chips, this place was on my way home so I stopped to eat here. Will never eat here again, The fish was old I am sure, it was very dry and over cooked, the fries were nothing to write home about I had an order of sausage as a side again dry and over cooked. There were two Ladies working here, one took my order and the other was doing the cooking, The Lady got my order so wrong it was nothing like what I ordered, the wait was almost half an hour thank goodness I had a book and was not in a hurry. Half way through my meal this young guy in a hoodie walks in and is wandering around behind the counter, no hand washing or apron etc, I asked the Lady ordering what He did and she said " Oh it's the owners son, He just comes to play video games " very hygienic . I will never set foot in the place ever again. read more

The all you can eat fish on Tuesdays are completely flavorless, had to drench it in tartar sauce but even that didnt help much. Not worth.

Stopped in for a quick bite while on our way from Niagara Falls to Michigan...and so glad we did! Fish and chips were delicious! Got the halibut. It was lightly battered and crispy golden. The fish was perfectly white and flaky with a nice clean flavor. The coleslaw was a tasty accompaniment. And the service was fantastic...friendly, helpful and attentive! Thank you for an excellent road trip lunch! read more

Did takeout here a couple weeks ago. Ordered two cod dinners. I've made cod at home. Fresh cod, cooked lightly and served with vegetables. My cod was better. The fish was overcooked, almost like it had been double fried to the point that the coating tasted burnt and powdery and the fish inside was dry and tasteless. Too bad because I paid extra for cod because I wanted a good dining experience. Seems like this is just another fish and chips place that fails to pay attention to quality. I got enough soggy fries to feed a family of four. Fries are the side. I wanted yummy meaty cod (yes cod is meaty when cooked right) in a nice crispy English style batter. Sigh. Still looking for a great fish and chips dinner in Hamilton. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Go here if you just want cheap and fast. read more

We have a selection of fish that is growing as we covert our customers to different tastes. we also specialise in our housemade sides, curry sauce (gravy), English style mushy peas, tartar sauce and coleslaw.

History

Established in 2014.

We are the new owners of this chip shop, it was previously Whitney Fish and Chips which had an awesome reputation for Halibut amongst other fish. We decided to change the name to The lighthouse Fish and Chips and start a fresh, we have totally refurbished the shop giving it an English feel with lighthouses from Kent around the walls. Howard used to Landscape with a Canadian company but has always wanted to run a chip shop, he trained in the UK with the Fish Fryers Association and is now serving up awesome fish too our customers.

Meet the Business Owner: Howard B.

Howard was brought up in a small village called Waltham in Kent, near Canterbury, he loves good food, motorbike racing and would love to get back on the road on a motorbike here in Canada. He is married with three children and now one grandson, born the same week he opened the Fish and Chip shop, the youngest of the family helps in the shop from time to time.

The only regret I have with this place is the fact that my wife and I waited two years before we came back. We were were worried that after two years the first time we were there was so awesome, with all the things that could change we wondered if it would still be good. Well, it was. We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary and we were so happy to be at Born And Raised again. The menu doesn't miss a beat. We started out with a couple of appetizers, steak tartare, and burrata done in a seasonal style with butternut squash. I thought it an odd combination but it was so amazingly good. Then our mains, I had the rigatoni with meatballs, and as a special feature item my wife had tagliatelle with braised short rib. I am always critical of Italian food given that my grandmother, mother, stepmother, wife, and mother-in-law are masters at it, but let me tell you their rigatoni with meatballs is the real deal. The sauce is amazing, pasta cooked perfectly, and meatballs were so delicious with every bite. The server was even cool about getting me some extra bread to clean up that sauce with which was an extra treat. I was able to beg for a couple of fork fulls from my wife for the tagliatelle with braised short rib, and it was so delicious. Oh yeah, and one other thing, in both cases the portions were fantastic. None of this two forkfuls thing for presentation, it tastes good, you're there to eat and eat well, and they deliver. They vibe in the place is very cool noise levels are fair, and they were playing some cool old school music when we went. All of the staff were friendly, and attentive always checking in. Can I recommend that for dessert you order their pecan pie. It's so amazingly delicious, as is the scoop of vanilla ice cream they dolloped on there. Yeah, I may have had to have put in some extra time at the gym the next day, but that kind of eating gave me high I rarely get in restaurants, and I wish the same for all of you that take this recommendation to heart. Well done to the staff of Born And Raised, and I promise it will NOT be another two years before we are back again.

When I did a staycation in Hamilton in February 2020, I remember passing by an August 8 restaurant…read more It has a handful of locations that offer all-you-can-eat sushi. Last month, I was back in Hamilton for a mini staycation. I needed dinner. I looked on my Uber Eats app and saw that this August 8 had a number of BOGO items. I had to get in on the deals. I ordered the following items: - Avocado salad - California roll - BOGO - Sticky rice (3) - Salmon sashimi (3) - Steamed sponge cake (4) - BOGO I drove over to the eatery to pick up my order. It's located in a tiny plaza with limited parking. I managed to snag the only parking spot available. I had to careful back in, as there was a car parked illegally in the parking lane. It's the downside to fetching or heading over here to dine. The parking situation is atrocious and downright dangerous. More on that in a bit. I headed to the counter and got the nicest young man. I let him know that I had an Uber Eats order and stated my name. He found my order and handed a bag over to me. I thanked him and left the eatery. There were a handful of students hanging around outside. One of the guys was sweet to open and hold the door for me. Kindness isn't completely dead. It was a nice touch. The downside was that the woman who parked illegally parked in the fire lane didn't bother doing a check behind her and decided to back up. I don't get why she needed to back up, but she nearly backed into me. I was not impressed. I actually managed to get out of the way and had a good look at her from the passenger side of her car. I let her know through some arm gestures that she needed to be careful and that she nearly ran over me. My gestures did have words accompanying them. I can't state them here. They weren't pleasant words that I use regularly. I got to my car and safely placed my food in it. I then drove back to the hotel room to chow down. The food was yummy on the whole. I will break things down: Avocado salad The miso dressing was flavourful. The avocado slices were delicate and were starting to turn brown. The veggies were fresh, but I didn't love the iceberg lettuce. I'd skip getting this salad. California rolls Excellent! The filling was warm, which was different. I loved them. The fake crab, avocado, and julienned cucumbers were so good. They did have black sesame seeds around them. Sticky rice (3) It was a bit weird seeing white paper wrapped around each bundle of sticky rice with its own leaf wrapping. I felt that it was a waste of paper. The bundles had more white pepper than necessary. The filling was generous, with small chunks of pork. I ate one each day. They heat up nicely. Salmon sashimi (3) The best! Each piece melted in my mouth. You don't need to chew much. The sashimi was super fresh. Steamed sponge cake (4) I am a huge fan of traditional steamed sponge cake. There was a twist with the version here. You get dainty triangles with layers of sponge cake. I'm not sure what separated each layer, but this cake was subtly sweet and still warm. I loved it so much. I want to return and get some more food. I'd avoid the avocado salad. The parking situation makes me want to fetch food from a different August 8, though. Maybe I should try coming during lunchtime when I'm in the area and see if parking is better. (442)
