Went to Lighthouse restaurant diner for dinner tonight and got take out for Cody and I. I decided I wanted prime rib. So $37.99 later I get a house salad, mashed potatoes and escarole and a prime rib that had more fat than meat. Just look at the picture and I had not eaten any of the prime rib because I was too busy trying to get all the excess fat off of it. So I call the restaurant/diner back and inform them that it is completely disgusting that they have the nerve to sell something that has more fat than meat. Of course they did not offer to refund me my money so I have decided to do the next best thing. Write bad reviews on Yelp, every Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh, Massapequa and Seaford Facebook page and tell everyone how they are taking advantage of customers. Couldn't post with no stars so was required to give one. We went there for a holiday dinner and had eaten there inordinate times over the years. On this particular visit, we were treated like scam artists who were trying to have them take a wholly sour and spoiled corn beef sandwich (leaving us to wonder if it was left over from St. Patrick's Day.... Yes it was that bad) off our bill. In addition to being rude and telling us that nothing was wrong with it and they were serving it all day, they added insult to injury by eventually removing it from the bill, but charging us for the potato and cup of soup that came with it (which ended up being half the price of the meal itself) and was eaten prior to discovering the condition of the corn beef. Poor poor business practice. Not even an offer of a free dessert. This diner is literally not the only one on the block. They need to be more loyal to regular customers and not so defensive. Above all else , they need to be more aware of the quality of the food they serve , lest customers get sick and losing that customer won't be their biggest problem. read more

I love a good diner hamburger and that's what I had tonight at the Lighthouse. Also I enjoyed the beef barley soup which was loaded with beef and other veggies.This place never fails. Hadn't been to this diner since the renovations over six years ago. They broke down the walls and made the diner very open and more of one huge room. The best breakfast and one of the best meals I've had him on the fourth diners I visited in the past week and a half. Service was good and friendly, but at least one important instruction was not passed on to the kitchen. Nice atmosphere convenient on sunrise Highway parking is plentiful. Was there yesterday afternoon for pancakes; my mother (normally) craves them! First off, BEWARE, they've changed the menu and pricing has gone up not to mention add-ons are costly! The woman who claimed she was the "owner" was rude and sarcastic! My family has been going there for almost 20 years, knowing Lorraine very well. She WAS the owner, and she was fabulous as were the 2 gentlemen that worked the desk. But the one last evening was telling us (making my 81-year-old mother and myself) out to be liars...that we were obviously new customers who never read the menu...adding, for what the waiter there says was $5.00 for fresh fruit being added into the pancakes. Well, mom had bananas (no charge, I guess they're not fresh...fruit) and I paid $5.00 extra for the blueberries. We then tried to talk to the "owner", and she became defensive, obnoxious and rude! I really love this diner! I come here almost every week when running errands on the weekends. I recently found out they delivered, which I was excited about, and I love that they are open 24 hours, which most diners in my area are not anymore. The food is always great. My one complaint is that sometimes the food can get a bit pricey for a diner. I love ordering my omelettes but I usually get charged for substituting one meat for another and when you add cheese etc the omelette becomes rather expensive. My daughter asked me to look at a house with her in Wantagh. We saw the house and I told her and her boyfriend I would buy all of us dinner at that diner on the corner. Me and my girlfriend got there first, they were kind enough to seat us without the other 2 being there. We were given 4 menus that were so clean, I don't even think they had fingerprints on them. Entire restaurant was very clean. Service was very professional. Food was Very good to excellent. Dessert was delicious. Cost was reasonable. Amazing place to go for just about anything. Family owned and best part is, they're right there working as host, cashier, waitstaff and more. They will accommodate allergies and have knowledgeable staff who can explain dishes. I've gone in there exhausted and not sure what I've been in the mood for and the staff helps me choose or offers suggestions. I go in so much that they know my likes well as well as my food allergies. They check my plate and because of their dedication to make customers happy, the kitchen even knows my name and when the staff types in my order they include my name! This way, the cooks recognize it and automatically treat my food preparation with TLC! If I were a millionaire, I'd go there for every meal. Truly remarkable all around. I'm not sure why the people in the front who seat other people have such a bad attitude. Really, I'm not sure. It can't be the ambiance. There is none. It can't be the food. The food is the same quality as every diner. It can't be the service. It's clueless. So why the bad attitude? A seating hostess with a narcissistic personality and attitude. Hmmm... Why? It's a diner. Not anything worth mentioning usually. Just some microwaved ingredients and some poorly heated stuff. Besides the bad attitude of the hostess and the ignorant cashier that ignores you as she stares at you before ignoring you again, the food is just the same as any diner. Same microwaved industrial strength stuff. Same dishwashers assembling stuff. Same bad food. So why would a hostess be so rude? Why drop menus on a table and push her way back through you so obnoxiously? The prices are very high for the quality of the kitchen staff. The quality of the industrial strength factory made stuff that comes frozen and is microwaved for you. The only reason I ever come here is because it's convenient. They really need a new cook. Someone who can give the menu a going over. While I've never had a really, really bad meal here, the food is acceptable at best. From the pancakes to the lunch specials most things are either bland or not tasty at all. It's food. I meet my friends, enjoy their company. That's all this place is to me. I go to diners a lot. Not because I want to. But because people are stupid. How stupid? Just actually pay attention next time you walk into one of these factories. Let me start by saying this is one of the best diners I have ever eaten at. The food is always hot and fresh, and the service is always spot on. The staff is all very friendly and make sure that your food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. If I can recommend an item on the menu it would be "the Gus" absolutely delicious. Been coming to this diner for years. Have always ordered lettuce and cucumber (instead of tomato) to replace the potatoes. Today was informed there would be an up charge for cucumbers but not for tomatoes. I don't like tomatoes. This has never occurred before. My meal came and they brought me 4 slices of cucumber the size of a dime...it's only .75 but it's the point. They claim it's always been like that, I beg to differ! It's a super clean and family friendly environment, the servers always make sure to seat you as soon as possible and are extremely kind and helpful. We went tonight to celebrate a friends b day. I called 1st, reservations for 5. Found they have many desserts so no bringing a cake. Food was good, they let us sit for hours and did sing Happy birthday, ,as promised. But yes there were discrepancies. Noted from other reviews so l was prepared. David was our waiter. The 1st thing l am aware of...the water. It was on the table and warm.lt was what I believe unfiltered sink water. Next l found that l had to repeat request more than once for different things even as simple as a glass of ice. Soda refills for our party (no pitchers) had to be waved to the waiters attention. Coffee (forget fresh milk in a pour container) only those tiny processed cups.(like you coffee lite -use 6 or 8 plastic cups) Rubin was abundent, eggs cooked correctly,phili steak sandwich was on a hero bread, and to my surprise,the stiffed mushrooms dinner plate (not the appetizer size) were able to be adapted for mix of stuffed spinach and stuffed crab meat.Now for dessert We went to the front variety of display.l asked if they had cherry pie and was told no. Ok certainly enough to pick from. The blackout cake was the special and 1 our group ordered that. I took the last piece of 7 layer cake and it was delivered the table.my friend ordered blueberry pie...got cherry. (I couldn't give the cake back) l took the cherry pie and had the cake wrapped to go. Only then did our friend finally get up and go to the front to let them know that he was still waiting for his ordered blackout cake. Yes we gave the guy a very good tip at the same time my inner self felt like,he figured he wasn't going to get a decent one. They gave the take home desserts to the wrong people. This place has the best omelettes and they are HUGE--even the egg white omelettes are huge. The coffee here is good and the hostesses are warm, friendly, and quick to get you to a table. Even when it's crowded, I never have to wait to be seated. My go to omelette is: egg whites, onion, tomato and mushroom--not uncommon for me to abuse the omelette with lashings of ketchup. I always ask for the multigrain toast (which they actually have--unlike most diners) If I'm feeling naughty, ill have them butter my toast ;) I love this place so much that I call in orders for pick up all the time (omelettes usually). They are super quick in whipping it up--they tell me 10 minutes and that is a very accurate timeframe--sometimes it's ready a few minutes earlier. This place is very reasonably priced, there is almost always a spot to park, the food quality is great, the service is great, the food is ready quickly and for me they are local. I've never posted a review on anything but I felt like after what happened the other night I had to. When I went here I asked the waiter for a drink he never brought it to the table. I ended up letting that go and not saying anything. We then ordered our food and got our food and a few things were totally wrong after telling the waiter about that he started giving an attitude and just blowing us off. He also brought out this appetizer that had no toppings on it was extremely cold to the point we couldn't even eat it. When telling the waiter about it he completely blew it off and didn't do a thing. We brought it to him at the end again just saying we couldn't even eat it and he said there's nothing I can do. When going to pay we spoke with the manager saying we couldn't even eat it it's sitting on the table untouched can we have it removed from the bill or even just can we have something to replace it worth the same he said no we are paying for it. After having to go back and forth with him he says I'll give you $5 off and I don't even have to do that. It was $15!!! We also brought it up very nicely to him we weren't trying to argue or anything. He then tried to just grab my friends card right out of his hand. We ended up paying for it at the end but never again will I come back to this place. I cannot believe that kind of service really really disgusting! Dear Lighthouse, It saddens me that after 13 years of loyalty I have to say goodbye. I thought the last two times I got less than adequate food it was a fluke but I'm a "three strikes you're out" kinda girl and last night you struck out hard. You messed up my order, the fries were literally dripping in grease and the cheese was hardly applied. And the most troubling part was the fact that I had the WORST GREEK SALAD EVER!!
