But in a time of pandemic, if you're literally looking for a car rental in walking distance of Kensington/Windsor terrace, I'd recommend this one. Call to make a booking, or you can try just showing up on the day. Summer hours are they're only open Monday through Friday, and they close early on Fridays. I don't know how changeable their rates are, but we took a car for a week for $450 (total, including tax etc). That's about what we'd have paid at empire over in crown heights, but again, the location was really important for us with covid. If your credit card doesn't cover collision insurance, that's an extra $10 per day. The cars are not new, they have mileage and wear and tear, but they work. We felt confident that they were seriously cleaning between customers. Everyone is masked. Nice people. You don't have to go inside to do paperwork, just hand your card and license through the door and they'll hand you back the receipt to sign. Bring your own ez pass if you'll be driving anywhere with tolls.

At least they didn't charge us more for it and tried to make it seem like they were doing us a favor because we were "getting a deal". The truth is we didn't need such a large vehicle, would have preferred something more fuel efficient, and we knew we had to find street parking in Brooklyn, so we actually wanted a small car 2) I had to proactively ask them to do the vehicle inspection and note existing damage (to which there was a fair bit, albeit nothing major unless you count balding tires), and also note the fuel tank reading. I'm not sure what would have happened had we driven off the lot and returned it the next day without having done this. To make matters worse, the guy who normally does this job wasn't available that day so they hand wrote out a note (see pic). To add insult to injury, look how many tick marks they used to denote the granularity of the fuel tank reading!! Most rental car places just round up - but not here! 3) While the staff was generally helpful, they occasionally struggled to get through the process smoothly (eg two people ended up helping us, and they would occasionally contradict each other and argue in front of us). Insurance and billing was also not as straightforward as it could have been (eg at one point we had provided 3 different credit cards and upon returning the car they couldn't tell us which one would be charged for the EZ Pass). BTW, apparently they don't accept Citi issued credit cards due to changes in their cardmember policy related to rental car coverage (or lack thereof). Luckily we used our personal car insurance (which they actually called to confirm validity- something I've never had happen before). TL;DR we needed a rental car and got a rental car out of it, but the experience (and car) were just meh
