Rented a car on Xmas Eve for 24hrs. Did everything work out? Yes... so why only 3 stars? 1) we reserved a compact car and when we went to pick it up, we were told the only car they had available was a minivan. At least they didn't charge us more for it and tried to make it seem like they were doing us a favor because we were "getting a deal". The truth is we didn't need such a large vehicle, would have preferred something more fuel efficient, and we knew we had to find street parking in Brooklyn, so we actually wanted a small car 2) I had to proactively ask them to do the vehicle inspection and note existing damage (to which there was a fair bit, albeit nothing major unless you count balding tires), and also note the fuel tank reading. I'm not sure what would have happened had we driven off the lot and returned it the next day without having done this. To make matters worse, the guy who normally does this job wasn't available that day so they hand wrote out a note (see pic). To add insult to injury, look how many tick marks they used to denote the granularity of the fuel tank reading!! Most rental car places just round up - but not here! 3) While the staff was generally helpful, they occasionally struggled to get through the process smoothly (eg two people ended up helping us, and they would occasionally contradict each other and argue in front of us). Insurance and billing was also not as straightforward as it could have been (eg at one point we had provided 3 different credit cards and upon returning the car they couldn't tell us which one would be charged for the EZ Pass). BTW, apparently they don't accept Citi issued credit cards due to changes in their cardmember policy related to rental car coverage (or lack thereof). Luckily we used our personal car insurance (which they actually called to confirm validity- something I've never had happen before). TL;DR we needed a rental car and got a rental car out of it, but the experience (and car) were just meh read more

This is one of the worst run companies. The customer service is awful. Someone renting a car from this place hit our car that was parked in our own driveway 6 weeks ago. Since we were obviously not at fault it is the responsibility of the driver and since he was in a rented care from EZ rental, they are liable. They refused to pay for the damage. We found out they are not insured, basically "Self insured", so they make up whatever amount they think is ok. The amount they offered was laughable. I'm not sure why they think they are above the law. They also treated my Mom very disrespectfully on the phone, basically telling her to put her husband on since she is a Woman. I'm not sure if it's because we're not Jewish? I have no idea. But it's a very unprofessional company, I'd give Zero stars if I could. My car is still in the shop 6 weeks later, not being fixed since this company refuses to do what they are legally required to do. Advice, do NOT get involved with this terrible company. read more

I would have liked to give a positive review. Nice clean cars, excellent rates, basically nice people - at first. I had a previously positive experience with them. However, I made a reservation for an overnight rental, complete with all of my information, because I knew I would be pressed for time. When I arrived, the office staff quickly processed my rental agreement, and an attendant went to get me a very nice car. I loaded my packages, and garment bag into the car while he did the requisite paperwork, recording mileage, gas level, and then making a video of a "walk-around" to record the physical condition of the car. The whole thing took about 15 minutes. As he got to the back of the car, I noticed the license plate... well actually I noticed that there was no real license plate. There was a piece of paper, with a photocopy of a temporary Florida license plate. Not cardboard. Not card stock. PAPER!!! The type that flutters in wind, and wilts in rain. This was connected to the back of the car with 2 screws in the upper corners, leaving the paper to freely fly up and about as I traveled on 65 MPH roads!! I went back into the office, and expressed my concerns. The paper could easily tear around the screws, and fall off. And it would certainly not stay put in wind conditions. This "plate" was a red flag, asking to get noticed by highway patrol. There was a high probability that I would get pulled over because this plate could not be scanned by a police scanner, or possibly not be seen altogether. Even if (as claimed by the EZ rental office staff) this paper constituted a legal tag, that would not stop an officer from pulling me over because this license plate got his attention. Aside from the inconvenience and time lost, if I was traveling even 1 mile above the speed limit, I would also get a speeding ticket, because I was driving a car that was drawing attention. In other words, even if all the cars were going 75, I would get pulled over because of that ridiculous version of a license plate, drawing specific attention to me. The office staff was dismissive of my concerns, and insinuated that I was excessively "picky", and ignorant of normal license plate standards, which I found highly insulting. I asked if I could tape down the paper, so it would not fly up, and attract attention. They said I couldn't do that because it would damage the paint. But they did offer me a replacement, which I accepted immediately. With new rental agreement in hand, I went outside, removed my things from the first car, and waited about 20 minutes for the attendant, who had moved on to another customer. When he finally looked at my new rental agreement, he seemed unable to locate the car. That is because the car was parked off to the side, in an area that I presume was reserved for cars that are not in use. I got that idea, because the there was a large utility can, a tire, and some other paraphernalia strewn on the ground blocking access to the cars. However, since the license did match up to a car in that area, I proceeded to load my things into this second car. The attendant expressed his confusion, by muttering that this car did not have working headlights! He then proceeded to go get the keys anyway. He was starting to do the paperwork, and I confirmed what he had said about the headlights. His response was that yes, the headlights were out, but other than that, "the car runs fine". I pointed out that it is dangerous - and illegal to drive without headlights. This was at night, with light rain falling!! He shrugged and said that if I don't want the car, I have to go back into the office. Which I did. Despite the fact that the computer listed the car as in full working condition, the staff did offer me a third car, and thankfully did not try to convince me that I did not need headlights. I went back outside with my 3rd rental agreement of the evening, and handed it to the attendant, who took it and headed on foot out of the parking lot exit. He returned more than 15 minutes later, apologetic, albeit with a fully working car. He did the paperwork and sent us on our way. I lost about 45 unexpected minutes, which caused me to miss the beginning of a very significant event that I was headed to in New Jersey. The experience was frustrating, and the office staff were lacking professionalism under these circumstances. There's a lot of good things about this place, but I was very disappointed in their attitude, and lack of respect. read more

i rented a mini van at full summer rates i picked up the van on friday before closing drove it straight home loaded it up sunday morning with my family and luggage went to boston by the time i got there 2 of my children threw up their breakfast the car smelled and was not clean the brakes were beginning to go i drop off my child and the luggage and went home the brakes were getting worse and worse all of us were sick the next 2 days i returned the van told them of the problem after over a week of chasing them they offered me 50 dollars i will sue them stay away it does pay at any price to risk your family and yourself with ez rental i would give negative rating but it doesn't allow rent at your own risk to life and family read more

do not rent from this company! i took a car from them on a friday noon in the williamsburg location, and made asked before that i need 3 seat belts in the back. after pickup i realized that there is 3 belts but only 2 receivers... mistakes can happen... but when i called them up to ask for a different car but they claimed the dont have only in the bp location (in fact ithere was a lot of vans there), and when i said that its impossible for me to go to bp now as its almost shabath, they just cut off the phone! when i asked for a discount after returning the car they sent me from one officer to a nother and so far i didt her back from them! so before you rent a car from ez, think twice..... read more
