Also got the Irish Cottage Pie and it was very tasty - rich in flavor but lighter than I expected, in a good way. Shared a pint of Guiness (just missed splitting the G - lol) and finished with an Irish coffee, which hit the spot. We got their fish & chips and Irish Cottage Pie. Both were very good and filling. Fish was nicely breaded and fried. Good flavor in their batter. Cottage pie was full of flavor but not overly rich. But just beware the few wasps which hover about outside and seem to be attracted by nearby apple trees and the scent of fruity cocktails! I visited in August 2017, as part of a Carlingford Mystery Cocktail Tour, and amongst our party of sixteen ladies, for most, this pub was a firm favourite. Lots of parking Indoor and outdoor seating. Have live music and other events. Great Guinness. Go their often and would recommend. Good for families and there are some vegetarian options. It was really good and the locals that hang out there were all very friendly and came over to talk with everyone from our group once we finished eating. I asked the one local how many people lived in this tiny village and he said, "Not sure how many in the town, but there are 27 people and 3 dogs on this street". Theres a mixture of different crowds that drink here of all ages young middle age and older people really depending on what day of the week and what is on eg.. sport .. holidays.. so on. The drink is good and price is lower then city centre which is great to. Staff are all friendly most of them being people who live around Rathcoole them selfs theres a very local element to the pub but people from surrounding areas such as Tallaght Newcastle or Saggart drink here to. They also serve food threw out the day which is usually very good and value for money. The big beer garden and heated smoking area out back is cool to have as an extra also for kids theres a small playground which comes in handy as alot of familys on saturdays and sundays have dinner and a few drinks. So ya thats my view anyway and the first slice of Rathcoole on this site :-)
