When I couldn't decide on a cocktail, Sandra readily recommended the Grapefruit Martini -- it was delicious and totally the right call, Hubby's Tito's Cosmo was also well-made. For dinner, Hubby had the Chicken Parm - it was enormous and delicious, chicken was cooked well and the homemade pasta was a perfect al dente. The sauce was very good, but there was too much cheese for his taste, an easy fix to move to the side. There was plenty to take home for a second meal so it was an even better value. I chose the Spinach Salad, which was fresh and tasty with artichokes and goat cheese. Again, it was a generous portion for a very good price. We rarely indulge in dessert but we were convinced to try the homemade Tiramisu and it was amazing, just the way I make it myself. It's very hard to find a Tiramisu that is so authentic. We absolutely recommend Tumi, based on our experience it would be had to make a bad decision from their menu.

I start with all that because you might be put off by the kind of awkward to find location. The space is not great, feels worn. Service was okay, pleasant but not super attentive. Cocktails were poor. With all that; it is totally worth it for the 5 star food.

It's an island on an island, stocked with a taste of home for many. There's loroco in jars, loroco frozen, baked goods, fresh avocados, many kinds of fresh quesos, masa, dried beans, guanabana drinks, candy, health food products / medication, lottery tickets and cigarettes. The store can help you wire money to loved ones far away and really seems to serve as a community hub in so many ways. I go every year for my pupusa fix. You'll want to call ahead for them since they make them to order and they take about 20 minutes. Or you can get them from the freezer case to make at home (about $10 for a four pack). I picked up a daily special of carne asada on a recent visit, which came with white rice; a whole pickled jalapeno; two thick, Salvadoran style tortillas; black beans; grilled scallions; and iceberg lettuce / tomato / cucumber / lime. The carne was reasonably tender, but definitely not something one should try to attack with a plastic knife and fork. It's the kind of place that makes me feel embarrassed that I speak Spanish on a Sesame Street level since everyone is a native speaker -- but folks are awfully nice nonetheless. Service runs on island time, or even a bit slower, but no one seems to get upset. This place is such a treasure.
