It was elegant, appeared modernized and fresh, but still homey. A few lovely and elegant antiques remain here and there, but they don't distract from the fresh look. I spoke to a couple residents who said they loved it. The place was peaceful and quiet other than a group leaving for an event. I was given some respite information and literature, and the price was laid out clearly along with minimum stay, provided in writing so that any financial disputes should be easily settled. The Director's followup was supportive of my unique needs and staff was very kind. I am very glad I reached out to Caring.com to find this hidden gem in a good location. The only piece missing for me was a swimming pool. Definitely worth a look. Note that many of the negative reviews here are quite old and should probably be dropped to be fair, as the Director's name has changed from those mentioned and the descriptions are not aligned with the upgrades I saw.

There are nice seating areas outdoors and in. In the main lobby is a WII, which was being used as we toured. I was impressed with the number of residents that were out an about and friendly and engaging. Other senior apartments did not seem to have as many happy residents. Only two meals are served each day, lunch and dinner, with a limited selection of choices, but apartments include a full (albeit small) kitchen. Apartments have a nice patio or balcony. There is only one elevator for the entire facility, which seems like a potential hazard if the residents on the second and third floors have mobility problems and need to be evacuated in an emergency. Hallways are covered with smooth industrial (though tastefully patterned) carpet. Apartments however, are carpeted in a deep plush. This makes it difficult for residents using walkers to maneuver in their own apartments. Winding Commons is owned by the same company as Campus Commons Senior Apartments. Winding Commons is the better of the two.

Every visit the experience was the same either in the bed laying watching TV or when up sitting just staring out the window. Staff was nice but too many times only one person there to care for all residents which could not be done appropriately. No activities and food not that great. The administrator was rude and we felt never addressed concerns. We found a beautiful place for less than this place charges and there was activities and options s for socializing there. That doesn't make it okay, but if I am to review this place against others, they evidently all share this common trait. In retrospect, the additional issues I had with them were minor. The big important fact is that my mom was well cared for. I appreciate how special the caretakers are that work at these types of places. It's heartbreaking and very hard work. In memory care they are screamed at and may be physically harmed by residents. They work long hours. Yet, they still watch over our loved ones with great care. They are true angels. The Memory Care and Assisted Living buildings and common areas are kept-up and clean. One other positive about this location is they have activities in Assisted Living that you can join if you bring your loved one over there. God forbid I need a place to live down the road but if I did, I would choose Atria El Camino Gardens.

The care she received was phenomenal! She had the best care. I cannot speak highly enough about the beautiful facility, the quality of food, and the quality of care she received. They treated my mother, as well as the rest of the family with respect and genuine compassion during one of the toughest times of our lives. My mother passed away over a year ago and I am just now getting to posting about the experience we had. I couldn't bring myself to do it until now. I will never forget our experience. We could not have found anywhere better. I cannot speak highly enough of this facility. We were treated like family and my mother passed away peacefully after her short stay. I couldn't have taken care of her any better. I am so grateful to the staff for the care you provided my mother and my family.
