I'm a relatively new resident @ The Atrium at Carmichael. A couple of weeks ago, I had an issue with a payment portal & my actual account balance. I immediately brought this to the attention of office staff (Isabel & Erica). They assured me the issue would be forwarded to management. I was chiefly concerned because didn't want issue to affect my upcoming 9/2024 rent payment. I'm very happy to say the issue was fixed and everything went smoothly with my September's rent processing via payment portal! Many thanks to the great office staff / management for facilitating a solution and follow-up to ensure it was all good! The Atrium advertises its many community activities, but if you plan to participate, be sure to bring a heavy winter coat. For years, the social activity rooms and hallways have remained unheated due to a long-broken heating system. Despite repeated assurances that repairs are coming, nothing ever changes--leaving shivering seniors to endure the cold. read more

This place was a seniors living center for many years. They provided meals. They had housekeeping and laundry's. My sister lived there until her death in April 2020. The clientele needed all these services. They suddenly closed the kitchen. Took away housekeeping. What are these people supposed to do? read more

Do not trust this place! My grandfather was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days and they didn't alert my family! They have a list with everyone's information and only called one person who was not in town and without a phone! They didn't call anyone else on the list and when asked why they said it was against their policy! Absolutely unacceptable for a place that's supposed to take care of the elderly! Luckily my family is with him now but it makes me so upset that something could've happened to him and we would've had no idea! This place was wonderful with the previous owners. Now, the new owners have been focusing on remodeling and are seemingly moving towards either non-senior apartments or younger residents. They are now taking away the dining room and food services and laughably sent the residents instructions on how to use DoorDash, UberEats, etc. Can you imagine.. your senior relative, on a fixed income, using DoorDash and paying all of those delivery fees and taxes???? What an absolute joke. The new owners should be completely ashamed of themselves treating seniors like this. Avoid this place for your senior loved one. They do not care about the residents and are just in it for the money. read more

While this may be an unusual circumstance I still believe it shows the character of the management team. My mom started the move in process in October and had the security deposit paid before December with everything signed and approved only to be told later that the contract with housing was just started when we were told multiple times by the leasing agent (who guess what doesn't work there anymore) it was. After explaining this to management the front office contacted the manager and we were told we would get the 250 refunded. This was about 2 months ago and multiple visits to try and resolve with no update, no call nothing. I might make sure you have everything double checked before you start signing any checks! read more

My aunt lived at The Atrium until she passed away recently. When she moved in, the food was very good, there were numerous activities, the staff was friendly and professional. Recently, it was purchased by Pacifica Senior Living. They are apparently only concerned with appearance, as opposed to actual service. Floors have been torn up for months--a challenge for seniors with walkers-the food is frequently cold, the services reduced--though not the rent! They are not endorsed by the BBB, with good reason. I recommend you steer clear! read more

PLEASE do not trust these people with your loved ones. My father lived there for about 3 or 4 months. In that time - they REFUSED to feed him - stating that he was not allowed to wear drawstring pants and enforcing a strict dress code to be allowed to eat the food he paid for. He had advanced neuropathy in his fingers - he could not zip or button or snap pants. He also had incontinence issues - so making him wear pants that he could not easily put on/remove on his own was not acceptable. MORE importantly (over starving seniors- which is a crime and will be reported) they let him LIE ON THE FLOOR ALL NIGHT when he fell. There was no one to check on him or call or any way for him to get assistance as he could not reach the one wall pull. They do not have any safeguards in place for senior living. EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY - while my sister and I were out of town my father had an episode where he was having chest pains and shortness of breath - he and WE called the front desk and asked them to check on him. LITERALLY 2 HOURS LATER - after several calls they still had not done so. We had asked them to check on him and call 911 if he needed immediate care - the lady that answered said the person who would do it was busy but shed have her go check when she got back - THEN NEVER DID. My dad sat by HIMSELF unable to BREATHE and terrified for HOURS while these broads had lunch breaks etc. It was the most horrible feeling not being able to help my dad from out of state and having these people we TRUSTED with him completely drop the ball. BECAUSE of their HORRENDOUS lack of care and refusal to provide him with his meals etc, his condition deteriorated rapidly. We had already been searching for another placement he could afford - but at that point we had NO CHOICE but to move him IMMEDIATELY because he pure and simply WAS NOT SAFE and was being ABUSED and NEGLECTED there. He passed just a month or so later. DO NOT let these people contribute to the death of your loved one. The ducks are pretty - but not pretty enough to make up for refusing to FEED your loved one and LETTING THEM LAY ON THE FLOOR for 8 hours OR NEGLECTING TO CHECK ON HIM WHEN HE IS HAVING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY FOR HOURS. Now that he has passed, I will be contacting an attorney to seek damages for their contribution to his rapid decline and eventual death. PLEASE don't make the same mistake we did and think that the pretty environment was indicative of a level of care or concern for your loved ones. It is not. Look more closely and see the dust covering every surface and the lack of any meaningful maintenance and you will see the level of care they have for their tenants. 0. read more

My mother and stepfather moved in when it was under a different owner. The food was amazing and so were many of the people that worked there. The new owners do not care about the seniors ( people) that are living here. It's all about the money. They have tore up the whole place for months and months and months in all different areas. It's very difficult for them to get around the building. There are things laying around easily to trip over. They tore up my mothers back porch over a year ago to redo the woodwork and door. They broke her plant pots and left a old broken porch light and nails on the ground and never came back. It's still in disarray. She should've been able to enjoy her back porch. She paid for it . They had to stop the workers for a while because they weren't licensed. Just getting your mail can be difficult. Many times the seniors had to stand in line to get their food. Their rent should've been lowered during the mess and inconvenience of this building. Also, the food has gone way downhill. TV dinners taste better than the food they cook. Some of the people working there are wonderful people. The garbage piles up in the hallway where the garbage is supposed to be in the bins. I worried about rats and cockroaches and the smell was unbearable. The smell of Raid and bug repellent was almost unbearable when you would open the door to where the garbage was .. Many things should've been reported. Shame on these new owners. It was only about the money. read more

I'm looking for a place for my mom. The receptionist is off putting. After reading reviews, which don't really apply to our situation, I can see why this place has 2.5 stars. If someone who works here is reading this, I suggest some training for this lady. read more

We looked at a LOT of senior homes when researching a place for dad to move to. He wanted to downsize, have meals available and have social environment. The Atrium at Carmichael provides all of these and more. Many other places you have schedule appointments on certain days.... not here! You can make them when the appointments are convenient for you! This is a great feature! The grounds are nice. The people are nice. The place is clean. Most importantly, we feel dad is happy and safe! We recommend The Atrium 100%. Once you look around at other places you will agree!!! One more thing.... for the review complaining about care....the Atrium is not a full care facility and it is clear by the amount of care this person needed that it was the family that dropped the ball and not the Atrium. If your dad needed more care then he should have been moved to somewhere else or have full time caregiver come in. Others at the Atrium have caregivers come in when more care is needed. Look around.... you will not find a better value ... and the ducks are great! read more

Personally, I love this place! A fabulous independent senior living apartments. This is not assisted living. The staff are caring and there is plenty to do for these active senior. The meals are delicious. read more

Sorry to Atrium but I can't recommend this facility to anyone. Don't let the newly painted lobby fool you, it has gone down in the last year. In all fairness to the employees, it isn't their fault. The corporate management has made so many cutbacks, the employees are over worked. The house cleaning that comes with your rent has been cut down to 15 minutes per resident. The wait time in the dining room is longer. The food portions are less, IF they don't run out. Residents are leaving because their complaints have gone no where. Oh and yes, old people like to complain but they're valid complaints. It's sad because with the ducks, the squirrels and the larger apartments, this place could be really nice. I think the Corporation is ruining a good thing. read more

My mother moved into the Atrium January 2017. She liked the grounds, nice ponds/streams with ducks etc. Her apt. was nice with a good view of the inner courtyard. Food was okay at the beginning, though in her words "a bit boring" . Food service struggled to get food from the kitchen to the tables, with service taking the better part of an hour or more. My mother complained food was often cold by the time it got to her. I ate there a few times myself and this was my experience as well. Most of the food seems to come out of a can and then just heated up. What didn't come from a can seemed to be pre-made. While the food was adequate it was not restaurant or even home cooked quality. Due to the dish washer breaking down, meals were served on paper plates with plastic utensils several weeks during my mothers stay here. Facilities are showing their age, carpets in the main living areas a warn and dated. During rain storms ceiling in the dining area leaks. During the summer air conditioning in common areas is not up to the task and fans are needed to keep corridors somewhat cool. AC in the rooms seems to be fine. Most of the staff seemed to care about the residents but seemed to have their hands tied when they tried to make things better or offered suggestions to management. I moved my mother out late 2017 as a result of her getting a suspected bout of Norovirus which placed her in the hospital for about a week. My recommendation is to look carefully if you are considering moving in to this facility. Talk to residents how live there. the place has potential but as others have stated in their reviews corporate and upper management need to step up and make changes in how the place is staffed and managed. read more

We love our ducks at the Atrium. We have about 40 Ducks right now including 6 of the cutest baby ducks! There are many babies in the spring. The pond meanders from the front of the building through both of the courtyards. The ducks can be seen from many places in the buildings. read more

It's what you make of it. The Atrium has people working there that seem to care about the residents. You can see the residents hanging around and at first glance they even seem happy. After visiting around 15 times though I'm not so sure anymore. They seem to do a lot of complaining but maybe that's more their age than the surroundings. Also the food has really gone downhill in the last year. Again, it's ok but a year ago it was actually pretty good. The apartments themselves are pretty nice. Most have views of ponds with ducks swimming around in them. There is plenty of parking for the residents who still drive. The library is filled with both books and movies you can rent. There is a small gym and hair salon. There are a couple birds at the facility I like talking to but don't look to close at them as they look sickly too. All in all the place is nice but could be great with a new cook and maybe someone to just walk around trying to cheer people up. read more

Spotty. Food wonderful and really make attempts at fun, engaging diversions. Grounds are lovely. Promises for transportation not always fulfilled. They've had problems maintaining drivers and only operate 20 hours per week. Facility aging and carpets, plumbing, etc showing that wear and tear. Public areas dusty, full of cobwebs and not maintained (dirty). My Mom has lived here 2 years and as I visit, I see place getting seedier and seedier. Corporate needs to step up. read more

I wrote a $500.00 deposit check to the Atrium on 7-14-16 to hold an apartment for my father. I was told that this would hold the apartment for 30 days. If we found something else we would get a full refund but it would take 2 weeks to process through corporate. The next day on 7-15-16 I called Kim Whitt (the person we were dealing with) to cancel our request for that apartment and send our canceled check back to us, as we found him another one that was more suitable. Kim told me it had to be in writing. On 7-16-16 I sent Kim an email to the same effect. I never received a response to that email. After 2 weeks had passed I sent another email on 7-30-16 requesting the status of our deposit. Still no response!! On 8-3-16 I called to speak with Kim and had to leave a message. I called back and spoke with the manager Loraine. Loraine told me that the check was sent to corporate 3 days ago and it would take 21 business days to issue a refund. So they held my check for over 2 weeks before sending it to corporate knowing full well I wanted a refund. Now they will be in possession of my $500.00 for over 6 weeks when they could have and should have refunded it back to me in 1 day. I could have locked up that apartment for 30 days and then requested a refund but I did the honorable thing and let them know ASAP. I did receive a call back from Kim after I spoke with Loraine on the 8-3-16 and she told me it was out of her hands and that its only $500.00 and I should not have to worry about such a small amount of money. My response was "then send me $500.00 of your money and I will hold it for 6 weeks". She didn't seem to like that idea!! This is obviously an underhanded way of doing business and needs to be documented so others don't fall into the same trap. As you can see I don't write too many reviews, only when necessary.
