After ten stressful months and thousands of wasted dollars at another facility, we were asked by…read morefacility administration to move our mother out ASAP. We frantically began trying to find her a spot, but it was hard because of her somewhat unique care needs. When we toured Aegis, we were skeptical. Without exception, the recruiting/admissions staff roll out the red carpet no matter what facility you're considering. They engage with staff during your tour, hype up the longevity of their employees, brag about the extensive amenities provided, answer all of your emails and calls immediately. Unfortunately, as we discovered at Atria (review pending), that treatment can end abruptly once you sign the contract and write that first check. But not at Aegis. Here, that excellent sense of security and care you get during your first tour is something they obviously strive to maintain. And it shows! After a full month at Aegis, all I can say is that I'm more impressed every day with everything, from the grounds to the staff to the food to the activities. Even the admissions coordinator continues to assist us and answer every question we have. The staff is happy, even if you're not touring. Someone comes in to check on my mom no less frequently than once an hour whenever I'm there, usually twice. If it's not the pet therapy, medication management, snack cart, or other scheduled thing, it's someone popping in to ask mom if she'd like to go to dinner or an activity, or simply if she needs anything. It's clear Aegis takes pride in its facility. It's well-maintained and concerns are promptly addressed. If the person who'd normally take care of it is out, someone will be there to try to fill in. The difference is night and day from the last place. For example, at the prior facility, we were only able to arrange transportation successfully about three times. The remaining fifty or so times, they ignored us or gave excuses. At Aegis, I had a last minute request to get mom a ride to the dentist and their response was "Don't worry about it. We'll make it work!" The grounds are well-kept and the facility is clean. Plus there's an adorable fluffy white dog that lives there and lots of times is just cruising around greeting folks. Aegis feels more like a giant shared house than a hospital, like some other places do. Many residents leave their doors open. It feels safe and I feel good knowing my mom is in such capable hands. Finally, they make extraordinary efforts to get to know you and your whole family. Some staff actually take notes about conversations with residents and families in an effort to personalize every single experience. I don't know how, but Aegis seems to have perfected the art of residential care. I cannot thank them enough.

This time was even more difficult because of COVID and the statewide restrictions in place, which prevented family from visiting their loved ones, but for good reasons and safety of the patients and staff. For this reason and more, I couldn't have imagined sending her anywhere but Eskaton The Village. The nurses, CNAs, staff, therapists (OT, PT, Speech), doctors, and Zina were absolutely spectacular and very attentive to my mom's care and my many phone calls. I truly appreciate how this facility sets itself apart from the vast majority - they care about their patients. It's clean, the food is good, and the care is top notch. Thank you Zina (office mgr), Tanny (office asst), Melody (Speech), Pernima (PT), Dr. Chai, the friendly Security staff, and so many others I should name!

Less than a week later we decided this was not for us so I told Glen we did not want to be on the waitlist and would not be supplying any additional information. A week later I got a fraud alert from my credit card asking if I had authorized 3500 dollars to Eskaton Village and I said no so the charge was removed. I called Eskaton to complain and was told that Glen was no longer there and they apologized for the fraudulent charge. Today I checked my credit card and found another 3500 dollar charge pending which I will of course dispute! I called again but am still waiting for a call back. I do not think they are dishonest but this level of incompetence makes me very glad we did not go any further with them.

It is hard to even put into words what Walnut House meant to our family over the last seven years…read more My father was not just a resident there, he was genuinely loved, known, cared for, and part of a community. The staff knew him so well that they could tell when something was off before anyone else could. They noticed changes in his mood, his energy, even when his oxygen levels seemed low or he just needed connection or support. More than once, they reached out to me simply because they knew my dad. That level of attentiveness and humanity cannot be taught. It comes from people who truly care. My dad participated in everything he possibly could; bingo, karaoke, bowling, crafts, physical therapy, social events and Walnut House gave him community, dignity, purpose, and joy during a stage of life that can otherwise feel very isolating for seniors. Honestly, he got more out of the daily encouragement and movement from the Walnut House activities and staff than he did from many outside services. Over the years, we also watched the facility continue to improve, renovate, and invest in the residents and environment, which we deeply appreciated. What meant the most to our family, though, was how much they loved my father through the very end of his life. After he passed, Walnut House helped host a memorial so that both staff and the friends he made there could say goodbye to him together. It was incredibly beautiful and something our family will never forget. Thank you to everyone at Walnut House for treating my father like family. We will carry that gratitude forever.

From the first moment I stepped inside Walnut House, I knew it was the perfect fit for my mom because like my mom, everyone there was warm and welcoming. There was nothing institutional or depressing about the place, but an environment with caregivers and guests who seemed to be genuinely happy to be there. My mom was only there a few days when she declared she had found her "forever home." Our family found communication with Walnut House to be excellent. At last, we could sleep peacefully knowing our mom would be safe at night. We expected that, but what we didn't expect was the incredible camaraderie, love, and peace that Walnut House provided during her stay--especially during her final days. Our family will be forever grateful.

I asked her how she liked it, and she graciously shared her experience. She mentioned that her dad has been living there for almost a year, and although she lives out of state, she has been able to receive updates, which puts her mind at ease since their family moved him in. Although my mom was never able to move in (she passed away in the hospital), I knew this would have been the perfect place for her. When Daniel found out about my mom's passing, he sent flowers to my family. He truly cares, and I appreciate how involved his family is. During my tour, I was offered a plate of fresh fruit and encouraged to enjoy tea with the family. It's the little details that matter to me. The residents there are super nice and we talked to each of them to make sure they enjoyed being there and they definitely did. The place is clean, new and current and the staff is so friendly, professional and responsive. The food is homemade, fresh everyday. This is a family owned well run business and it's apparent that the owner and his family cares for the residents. My Mom already told me multiple times how different family owners spent time with her just talking with her. To me that's above and beyond the call of duty, and she loves it there. They communicate when needed to make sure my Mom is taken care of. I wouldn't hesitate to bring your loved one here.

We'd like to see them able to stay in the same facility should they need memory care down the road. We contacted "A Place for Mom" and Michael gave us a list of places to tour. In addition to looking at the rooms, amenities, activities, etc I want to see current residents and talk to them. Do they look happy? Are they interested in engaging in conversations? How do they interact with the staff? Atria Charmichael Oaks was by far my best experience on a tour. The staff members were friendly and professional. The residents we encountered along our journey were charming and happy to share their experiences and recommendations for staying there. Residents were active, we encountered people dining, playing games, taking walks, doing laundry, every area had someone utilizing it. Allison went above and beyond to show me every facet of the facility. Food service was welcoming to our needs for a vegetarian diet. Everything we need is here when my parents are ready to move. We discussed the negative Yelp reviews and my concerns after reading them. The residents I met certainly did not reflect the negatively I found in some of these reviews. I was assured there had been staff changes and the current team is working well together to put the resident's needs first. Sadly people tend to review the negative, not the positive.

It was elegant, appeared modernized and fresh, but still homey. A few lovely and elegant antiques remain here and there, but they don't distract from the fresh look. I spoke to a couple residents who said they loved it. The place was peaceful and quiet other than a group leaving for an event. I was given some respite information and literature, and the price was laid out clearly along with minimum stay, provided in writing so that any financial disputes should be easily settled. The Director's followup was supportive of my unique needs and staff was very kind. I am very glad I reached out to Caring.com to find this hidden gem in a good location. The only piece missing for me was a swimming pool. Definitely worth a look. Note that many of the negative reviews here are quite old and should probably be dropped to be fair, as the Director's name has changed from those mentioned and the descriptions are not aligned with the upgrades I saw.
