It was elegant, appeared modernized and fresh, but still homey. A few lovely and elegant antiques remain here and there, but they don't distract from the fresh look. I spoke to a couple residents who said they loved it. The place was peaceful and quiet other than a group leaving for an event. I was given some respite information and literature, and the price was laid out clearly along with minimum stay, provided in writing so that any financial disputes should be easily settled. The Director's followup was supportive of my unique needs and staff was very kind. I am very glad I reached out to Caring.com to find this hidden gem in a good location. The only piece missing for me was a swimming pool. Definitely worth a look. Note that many of the negative reviews here are quite old and should probably be dropped to be fair, as the Director's name has changed from those mentioned and the descriptions are not aligned with the upgrades I saw.

They have so many activities and the staff genuinely care about the people they're taking care of. It's clean, organized, and very well run.

My Mother and…read morefamily were immediately impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the staff, as well as the cleanliness and well taken care of facility. She had been in another independent living facility that was one level and it took a bit for my mother to navigate as this is two stories and larger. However, the staff (this includes EVERYONE, the Executive Director Aileen, t Rea in reception, Juan in maintenance, housekeeping and culinary staff, Lily the chef personally introduced herself to us, I wish I could remember all of the names to give a shout out to) have been wonderful, and were always friendly, courteous and helpful and assisted in her learning curve, she has now mastered the route she needs. She loves her unit and the view of the courtyard. The lunch and dinner meals have a lot of variety and use fresh ingredients. My mother is a modified vegetarian, and the culinary staff has worked to make sure she is comfortable with her choices. We shared a couple of minor challenges in her room and the maintenance staff immediately assisted in suggestions resolving them. She is still new and has not taken part in the MANY offered activities but is looking forward to trying them. I also want to mention the other residents have been welcoming as well, which I feel says a lot about the friendly environment the staff strives successfully to ensure.

She has been here since 10-5-19 and so far she loves it. She says the food is really good, she likes the staff very much. Loves having her own spot but help is close by if needed. I hired her a caregiver for 4 hrs every week to help her with bathing, laundry and light housekeeping. She's working on being more social, that's not really her thing but she might try it Wonderful independent living facility, she does not require assisted living and the price of it is way too much! Perfect place for her. Jennifer I

Ohhh, they just hosted a Halloween party for residents with staff members and families bringing children to trick o treat. There were booths with kid friendly spooky drinks and snacks. That doesn't make it okay, but if I am to review this place against others, they evidently all share this common trait. In retrospect, the additional issues I had with them were minor. The big important fact is that my mom was well cared for. I appreciate how special the caretakers are that work at these types of places. It's heartbreaking and very hard work. In memory care they are screamed at and may be physically harmed by residents. They work long hours. Yet, they still watch over our loved ones with great care. They are true angels. The Memory Care and Assisted Living buildings and common areas are kept-up and clean. One other positive about this location is they have activities in Assisted Living that you can join if you bring your loved one over there. God forbid I need a place to live down the road but if I did, I would choose Atria El Camino Gardens.

After ten stressful months and thousands of wasted dollars at another facility, we were asked by…read morefacility administration to move our mother out ASAP. We frantically began trying to find her a spot, but it was hard because of her somewhat unique care needs. When we toured Aegis, we were skeptical. Without exception, the recruiting/admissions staff roll out the red carpet no matter what facility you're considering. They engage with staff during your tour, hype up the longevity of their employees, brag about the extensive amenities provided, answer all of your emails and calls immediately. Unfortunately, as we discovered at Atria (review pending), that treatment can end abruptly once you sign the contract and write that first check. But not at Aegis. Here, that excellent sense of security and care you get during your first tour is something they obviously strive to maintain. And it shows! After a full month at Aegis, all I can say is that I'm more impressed every day with everything, from the grounds to the staff to the food to the activities. Even the admissions coordinator continues to assist us and answer every question we have. The staff is happy, even if you're not touring. Someone comes in to check on my mom no less frequently than once an hour whenever I'm there, usually twice. If it's not the pet therapy, medication management, snack cart, or other scheduled thing, it's someone popping in to ask mom if she'd like to go to dinner or an activity, or simply if she needs anything. It's clear Aegis takes pride in its facility. It's well-maintained and concerns are promptly addressed. If the person who'd normally take care of it is out, someone will be there to try to fill in. The difference is night and day from the last place. For example, at the prior facility, we were only able to arrange transportation successfully about three times. The remaining fifty or so times, they ignored us or gave excuses. At Aegis, I had a last minute request to get mom a ride to the dentist and their response was "Don't worry about it. We'll make it work!" The grounds are well-kept and the facility is clean. Plus there's an adorable fluffy white dog that lives there and lots of times is just cruising around greeting folks. Aegis feels more like a giant shared house than a hospital, like some other places do. Many residents leave their doors open. It feels safe and I feel good knowing my mom is in such capable hands. Finally, they make extraordinary efforts to get to know you and your whole family. Some staff actually take notes about conversations with residents and families in an effort to personalize every single experience. I don't know how, but Aegis seems to have perfected the art of residential care. I cannot thank them enough.
