Being able to get good food which is safe for me to eat in Middleton, as a coeliac is difficult, I've had so many trouble over the years to the point where I rarely bother with the local dining scene without heading into Manchester city centre but a place which might just be able to change that is The Korner Kitchen, it is located in Alkrington and has recently joined Uber Eats, delivering to Middleton.
I decided to try them out for the first time today, taking advantage of a 50% off voucher which was sent to me by UberEATS which was going to expire and a free delivery promotion.
They do close at 13:30 for Uber Eats orders, and 14:00 regularly at the moment, I do think it would be nice to see them open a bit later, luckily I managed to get my order in just before they closed. After confirming they were able to avoid cross-contamination on the phone, I went ahead with my order.
I ordered a ham and cheese omelette, the eggs tasted and looked good quality and were obviously the farm eggs described, the three-egg omelette made sure it was a decent size, and I was pleased to pick it up for £5.85 which doesn't include any discounts or service/delivery fees via Uber Eats.
I would have liked the option to order a greater deal of sides, for example, I was unable to order extra eggs/beans which weren't part of a meal, I didn't want to pay for beans on toast as obviously, they don't have gluten-free bread, there was no option to just order beans or a side salad which was a shame, I do appreciate they didn't add a side salad into the takeout container with the omelette as it would have made the salad hot and the omelette cold, but being able to add one separately would have been good.
My omelette was made with good quality ingredients but it was rammed with cheese, I would advise ordering with the request to add a slight amount of cheese if you don't like the cheese to get really stringy.
4* - Probably one of the best local cafes in the area, not without its flaws but still pretty good. read more
