Brand spanking newly opened!…read more At the heart of Monton's upcoming new businesses, The Blind Pig has just opened renovated that has replaced a previous pub there previously. The decor looks fresh, new, chic, understated and has that grey wood varnish touch that seems to be quite in at the moment. It's a bar but also a restaurant although it still has that pub feel but the new era pub feel. We went for the food and the cocktails - on a Friday night! This is the real time to test a new eatery. They did surprisingly well. We didn't wait for ages, had fun with the cocktails and discussing the place. Cute little notes were hung from table decorations and writing on the walls. Selection: Starting sharer platter - Italian meats, rocket, olives, mozzarella Soup and chips Random I know, but it worked. All of the food was tasty and fresh. Even through the renovation, it still attracts a lot of the old crowd. We were sat next to some people who didn't stop saying the F word through our latter part of the meal. This didn't put me off the food and the experience we'd had so far and I think it genuinely deserves 4*'s.

Monton is really going through some serious changes at the moment and will surely become the next Didsbury / Chorlton. The Blind Pig is a bar/bistro offering locally sourced produce, teas, coffees etc.... We had breakfast there this morning, nice food and reasonably priced. Will be back.....

Las Iguanas is Latin American restaurant located on the lower level of Trafford Centre Orient. It's…read morealways nice to try something new, and Latin American (Brazilian in my case) dishes are just that. While the menu is somewhat limited vs some other Las Iguanas restaurants I have been to, it still offers plenty of choice, both standard ones, like burgers, and more exotic, like Ximxim. Amazing food, staff and ambience. The staff is very knowledgeable and polite, and the portions are generous.

There was a high bar to beat during our latest trip to Las Iguanas, having only sampled some…read moreexcellent tapas at a friend's house the day before, but we were willing to give it a try. The style is more Latin-Spanish than Spanish-Spanish, with a combination of 'Tapas Time' and regular dishes - if you're in the mood for sharing (and why wouldn't you be?) you can, or if you're just wanting to keep to yourself, that's OK too. One the regular menu there are a host of pretty difficult to pronounce treats - you could plump for the Brazilian Xinxim, the Bahia Moqueca or the Camãrio a lo Criolla. And the dishes are more than a mouthful as far as portions are concerned too, with plenty on the plate you won't go away hungry... We were in the mood for a little Tapas though, and took them up on the offer of 5 dishes for £24. If you just wanted to pick at one or two, they range between £5 and £7 each. You can also get 3 for £14 - handy if you're on your own. So, what did we go for? - Calamares - a firm favourite, crispy squid (including the tentacles!) with a spiced aioli, - Gambas in a mild garlic and chilli sauce, - Pato Taquito; basically a duck fajita with a really good spiced cranberry sauce - Cha-Cha Chorizo - Chorizo in a spicy tomato sauce - Quesadilla - we went for the chiken We also got a side of 'Patas Bravas in Bits' - the traditional potato dish, but deconstructed with the tomato and aioli in a separate dish. I think this is a brilliant idea; you don't have to deal with soggy spud - crispy all the way! The venue itself is a little on the small side, and seems a bit swamped in the hugeness that is the Great Hall, and some of the tables feel a little cramped. The ambiance is OK, but sat around the back I felt we were missing out somehow (not a feeling I've had when I've been sat out the front). The staff were great, really friendly, and made up for some of the disappointing bits. Overall, an OK, rather than good Tapas place, a bit commercial, and definitely not authentic, but worth a try if you're in the Trafford Centre and want to eat (and quite a bit of a step up over Maccy D's).

This is not what I expect from a restaurant. The only good things were the salad bar and the friendly waiter. I won't be going back.

The fiver includes porridge, fresh fruits, pancakes, yoghurts, lots of cereals and most cooked items you can think of. I chose the porridge, which was tasty and a first here; it was served up in an ice cream sundae glass. Then I had three rashers of bacon, two sausage, black pudding, two fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried potatoes, I could have added beans, other types of fried potatoes and the eggs could have been poached or scrambled so you can see that the menu was really extensive. Also included in this price were different types of muffins, and unlimited toast. Another £2.25 buys unlimited filter coffee, tea and orange, grapefruit and cranberry juices. The coffee was quite alright and the juices really tasty. I paid £4:50 yesterday for a two item small portioned breakfast at Coasters in Sale. As I ordered I heard someone order their breakfast and his order included 4 sausages, 4 rashers of bacon, three fried eggs and it sounded that he was just calling out the entire menu list. The waitresses were very friendly. The guys cooking the food were efficient producing hot food quickly. If you don't want a cooked breakfast then a fiver will get you unlimited cereals, pancakes, fresh fruit, toast, yoghurts, muffins and all the hot drinks and fruit juices. Downsides were very few: the place was cold, I disliked the taste of the black pudding and the coffee cups and juice glasses are quite small. It's a five star rating anyhow as the value is fantastic.
