Brand spanking newly opened!…read more At the heart of Monton's upcoming new businesses, The Blind Pig has just opened renovated that has replaced a previous pub there previously. The decor looks fresh, new, chic, understated and has that grey wood varnish touch that seems to be quite in at the moment. It's a bar but also a restaurant although it still has that pub feel but the new era pub feel. We went for the food and the cocktails - on a Friday night! This is the real time to test a new eatery. They did surprisingly well. We didn't wait for ages, had fun with the cocktails and discussing the place. Cute little notes were hung from table decorations and writing on the walls. Selection: Starting sharer platter - Italian meats, rocket, olives, mozzarella Soup and chips Random I know, but it worked. All of the food was tasty and fresh. Even through the renovation, it still attracts a lot of the old crowd. We were sat next to some people who didn't stop saying the F word through our latter part of the meal. This didn't put me off the food and the experience we'd had so far and I think it genuinely deserves 4*'s.

Monton is really going through some serious changes at the moment and will surely become the next Didsbury / Chorlton. The Blind Pig is a bar/bistro offering locally sourced produce, teas, coffees etc.... We had breakfast there this morning, nice food and reasonably priced. Will be back.....

Okay! So I came here for pie with Mummy H and was blown completely away. Basically we wanted to try…read morethe two veggie options, the Heidi and the Wild Mushroom, and as soon as I used the word share our lovely bartender said, 'I can half each pie so you get two different halves on each plate if you like.' Just before I nearly leaned over and hugged him, I said, 'We were wondering if we could get one portion of - ' 'I can do you a half portion of mash and peas on each plate and a pot of gravy if you're sharing.' Get out of my head, Mr Amazing Pi Dude! Pieminister pies are always good, but the way they're served can have a certain level of influence. These were done brilliantly... minted mushy peas, vegetarian gravy, the pies perfectly halved and warmed, buttery delicious mash, and it didn't take long to arrive either. When one's got the swimming pool/caffeine tremors and it's cold outside only a pie will do, and this is now my favourite place to come for my fix. Plus, all four flavours of Timmermans? On the same menu as Delirium? Reasonable prices? Are you trying to *kill* me?

Pi gets it right on all of the above and was one of the nicest spots I've hit while in Chorlton. Situated just opposite from Unicorn, the bar is kind of like sitting in a shop with high risen full fronted windows and probably wouldn't sit more than 40 people throughout. For us it was perfect as there was a group of 8 who could easily take a load off on a Friday night and chat with the music not too loud and at 11pm'ish - not too busy as well. They have exciting and interesting beer menu's on each table with the usual suspects from Belgium, the U.S craft beer revolution and local and UK ales on the pumps towards the back. The staff were friendly and fitted in perfectly with this being a kind of place you might pop out of your house for one before heading home to get on with family life. I love these neighbourhood places, I could just do with living nearby to do this... Due to eating at the nearby Tibetan Kitchen, I didn't get the chance to try their pies but they're all from the excellent pieminister so I'd highly recommend getting one if you're in there through the day!

Following a recent refurb, the bar and restaurant is large, airy and contemporary - there's seating for well over 100, with seven private booths available. It resembled a posh hotel lobby more than a restaurant to me. We were only there for a light-ish bite, so sat at a table by the bar and scanned their bar menu, complete with soup, salads and sandwiches (all £5-£10). I was tempted by the Ploughman's but settled on a Club Sandwich. The restaurant's lunch and early dinner menu contains more substantial dishes if you're here to eat before or after catching a show. You can have two courses for £22 or three for £27. Though it was a Friday it was very quiet in there; in fact the staff seemed to struggle to cope at times with an influx of nine people. Some of our dishes arrived fairly promptly, whereas one of our party wasn't served until some of us had almost finished eating. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back here for lunch - you get tastier Club Sandwiches at nearby CraftBrew - but I wouldn't say no at trying them for dinner. Tip: you can get a draught beer for £1 when you buy a burger from the bar menu.

Thankfully I was able to snag a 50% off deal so took a few friends for dinner. Each of us ordered a different dish and all of us were thoroughly satisfied. Best dish: the lamb (so juicy and served with sweet bread AKA: lamb thymus...). Hit-and-miss: the pork fillet (portion was tiny, unfortunately) Pleasant surprise: Apple tartin dessert! Service was lovely and polite although still working through the kinks. Overall, great place to hit up before a show at the theatre, or after, depending on timing. Food was delicious for sure and very very fresh. Only thing that can be a bit shocking is the price. We were incredibly lucky to have the final tab sliced in half, but this is definitely a splurge for regular price meals. So...open those wallets wide!
