There's no atmosphere and there's no wow factor of an amazing aroma as soon as you walk in! For the price you pay, you could go to one of manchesters top restaurants for not much more! Another thing is the desserts.. Everyone has been going on about the cakes and ice cream there for weeks! They have them all lined up in a cabinet so of course, you have a look and see toffee ice cream with actual tofifees in it! 'Wow!' And bubblegum ice cream with real balls of bubblegum in it! 'Ever better!' So you order them both and just get a plain scoop of ice cream from a tub which is nothing like what they show you! and for £1.80 a scoop! WHAT?! I could have bought the whole tub you just got that one scoop from!!! So overall, I won't be returning! And as I can recall, I wasn't the only one unimpressed as there was a lady behind me complaining that she had found hairs in her food, not that they wanted to do much about it and just replied with 'the kitchen staff wear hats!' Have been to the Windmill many times and the service can be a bit hit and miss depending on who's working. There are usually 3 joints of meat on the carvery as well as the option of fish, minced beef & onion pie, half roast chicken or sausages. Having had the carvery many times I decided to try the fish for a change. They cooked it freshly for me. I piled on the usual potatoes and vegetables. Couldn't fault it, it was all delicious. There's currently some redecorating taking place, which will give the place a well deserved refresh. The Windmill would really earn 3 stars, but the extreme good value earns an extra star!

The only tiny thing is that on my most recent visit my brother's pulled pork sandwich (in the photo) was tasty but a bit dry so I had to donate my coleslaw to my brother to moisten it. That's the only thing though. It's got a cute little courtyard to eat in at the back. Also tables at the front on Beech road to watch Chorlton go past. They even had a bowl of water for dogs. They even had 2 different kinds of mashed potato, 2 different kinds of roast potatoes and 4 different gravies. So the service. Waited too long to be seated when there were plenty of tables available. Waited too long for drinks. Waited too long to pay. There seemed to be a lot of staff but few of them doing any meaningful work. One lady seemed to have the job of rearranging dirty glasses on a tray! The quality of the food would definitely make me revisit. Hopefully next time the service will be a bit better.
