City Center restaurant 1 min walk from famous Dean's Gate. Perfect place for diner for 2 or for family party. Restaurant is surprised big what is great . I was very happy from service. Table very quick ready and drinks ordered. Waitresses all the time care for us. Food for me is 4 stars. Presentation great, lots to choice. I can full recommended this place for eat and drinks. Ps. Cocktails are amazing

Lovely decor and an amazing array of drinks to choose from.

Situated in a prime location in Manchester in the heart of Spinningfields, Artisan is a lovely choice for afternoon or evening drinks. There's a fantastic array of cocktails, with expert cocktail mixers who I'm pretty sure could whip you up anything you fancy on or off the menu. We went here for a few drinks before heading to Gauchos for an anniversary meal, and it was the perfect location to start the evening. We were lucky in that Artisan was pretty empty at the time we arrived, so we had a whole corner to ourselves with an outlook over Spinningfields. The seating was really comfortable, staff were friendly and service was quick. Spinningfields is not somewhere I usually frequent but I would highly recommend Artisan for the quirky decor and large capacity - I'm sure it livens up a lot at night too so would be worth a visit for a cocktail evening with friends.

Burger and chips
Katie H.

I quite like Artisan but is one of my least visited Living Ventures venues. This time, my friend had a 40% discount, so we chose Artisan over our usual Gusto. As usual, I was running a bit late. So, when the receptionist showed me to our table, my friend was already there waiting. It didn't take us long to decide to get a bottle of wine between us - the Argentinian Malbec. They did give us the option of trying the wine first, but we chose not to - as if I'd ever send wine back! It was really good wine and extremely easy to drink. Maybe a bit too easy considering we were there on a Tuesday. I had a classic burger with crinkle cut chips. It was delicious and I particularly enjoyed the crinkle cut chips - you just don't get enough crinkle cut chips these days. My friend had steak and with peppercorn sauce and she really enjoyed it. I had some of my friend's coleslaw , which was delicious. We didn't have dessert, instead opting for more wine. In fact, we ended up having about another bottle's worth of wine. Which is really bad for a Tuesday, but it was tooo drinkable. Overall we paid about £30 each which was quite good, especially since most of that was wine. The service was a little slow, and the discount was not initially added to the bill, hence the reason for 4* rather than 5*.

Meatball pizza!
Poppy I.

We went here as a staff meal. When arrived, we were given a lovely table outside due to the nice weather. Our waitress - a friendly lady with dark hair - was super attentive and lovely. She recommended meals, drinks and endured we had the appropriate menu. I ordered the meatball pizza and was surprised at how quickly and how large it was! It was pleasing to see a "proper" pizza - crispy thin base and nice amount of toppings! The waitress checked back with us, ensured it was all okay and was very friendly throughout the whole thing. I Tweeted about my experience and was offered cocktails on the house next time I visit. I'll definitely be there again - not for the free cocktails, but just for the nice atmosphere, friendly waiting on staff and good, fresh food!

Fillet steak. As you can see, it looks like its missing something - and is very "brown". At this point, I had only cut it
Andrew Y.

Been a few times. Always had the steak. A couple times had the rib eye - which is what I usually have in restaurants. This time I went for the fillet. One of the reasons is that in January if you book online its 50% off the food bill. That means a fillet steak is £12.50 instead of £25. The steak tasted good. As you would expect really tender. However, I prefer the rib eye and the flavour - from the fat. Fat equals flavour! The steak comes with a tomato, roasted garlic and mushroom. The presentation wasn't very good. Plate was all very brown. Dark steak, almost black mushroom and very roasted garlic - don't see the point of the garlic. The tomato was the only bright colour. Its not helped as the restaurant is quite dark - as many restaurants seem to be nowadays! I am Ok with having the light "dimmed" - nicer atmosphere etc but maybe light the seating area a little more?? Also, as you will see from my photo, it doesn't look much on the plate. Someone mentioned it was like they gave 50% of it! The steak was bit bigger than it looks and was very filling. We both had a side order of chips - I think the portion size is smaller than previous times. For starter, I had sticky pork ribs with chilli and garlic. The pork was very tender and if you had it with a side, it could have been a light lunch - quite meaty. However the sauce wasn't much to write home about - nothing to it. Thinking about it, it wasn't particular "sticky". My 3 out of 5 score is for everything overall - as usual. The steak has always been quite good. Nice and tender. But I have certainly had better (actually much better thinking about it) - from the likes of Gaucho, Neighbourhood and Southern Eleven. (Arguably, for "pound for pound", Southern Eleven is the best. Its the cheapest out of the 4 I mentioned and its always a really good (rib eye) steak). The service is always good in Artisan. Although if I am to be critical, it was a little slow this time. We got the steaks and then were waiting a bit for the chips - probably just 2-3 minutes but it wasn't clear if they had just forgot or not. That is being very critical though. Its certainly worth going and trying - especially with the 50% off (if you book online) in January offer which they have. If you get an Artisan members card (free), you can get 20% off (just food I think) if you book online, 10% otherwise. Its not clear on their web site how to join the membership - just has a place to "login". You can sign up for a newsletter but thats different. I had to email them. The link is http://www.artisan.uk.com/apply/

the baked camembert served with crisps. The crisps made it far too salty though. Would've been lovely with bread.

It saddens me to write this post, as my first experience at Artisan was unparalleled. The restaurant boasts one of the BEST atmospheres in Manchester (not even sugar coating it: swanky design, beautiful industrial artwork by Manchester-based artist, gorgeous spacious bar and lounge, and a cozy and intimate dining experience). My boyfriend and I first went for the 50% off deal in January, where we got an array of tapas that were insanely delicious. Beautiful chorizo, fried chicken, and prawns soaked in a garlic-y tomato sauce. Add to that a funny bartender and a charismatic server, and you have an A+ meal and experience. Cue the second visit. The volume of the atmosphere still existed, however the whole look and service completely changed. I mean, completely. All of the previously beautifully-strung lights that gave to the intimate experience are now BRIGHT fluorescent yellow. I will let the pictures share this eye-aching episode, considering all of my photos came out like everything was high on pollen. Their new menu has changed, and it really doesn't have much an appetizing appeal to it, it seems somewhat boring and typical of any regular restaurant: a couple seafood dishes, a couple steaks, burgers, flatbreads. Our server delivered our food and never came back to check if everything came out alright, which left my boyfriend with a steak that was well overdone. I also unknowingly got charged for two different kinds of red wine, the second one being way more expensive than the first one. Aside from a rather tasty flatbread that I got, I would give our second visit 1 star. I just don't have the heart to do that to a restaurant that I first thought was going to be my absolute favorite go-to in Manchester. So, average rating it is.

First time visiting Artisan with the 50% offer they have on during January. Amazing Offer to try somewhere new. I really liked the decor and the buzz of Artisan and the staff were really lovely and friendly too. It was busy busy but that was expected Thursday night 50% off but served quickly and no waiting long in between courses. I had mussels baked in bread followed by steak and home made crinkle cut chips all washed down with a glass of fizzy. All of it was delicious can't wait to go back.

Salmon ceviche with lime
Jonny Q.

Ok so at long last I made it down to Artisan - it kinda seemed rude not to take advantage of their 50% off food January offer! First things first, I loved the space. It's a great setting and I feel like they've really made an effort with the decor and and got the style looking just like a New York loft bar. The staff were super friendly and were up for a bit of a chat which was nice! Now on to the food. All I can say is that I'm pleased it was 50% off. While I'm giving this review 2 out of 5 - these 2 stars have to go towards the general ambience and the pleasantness of the staff. I went for 3 small plates which usually would have set me back £18, a fairly significant amount for lunch and not really what I'd call filling. Here's my breakdown: 1. The Salmon Ceviche was bland, lacking in excitement and needed a fairly generous amount of additional seasoning to give it some flavour. I was advised by my waitress that squeezing the lime on it would really bring out the flavour but with only squeezing 10% of the small piece of lime, the dish was just saturated in it. 2. The baby scallops with a curry sauce were bland, again lacking in taste and I'm not sure who does the tasting but they could do with a new tongue. The consistency of them was good and they were obviously well cooked but the plate really was on the tiny side of things. 3. The actual pork rib again was lacking in taste - it was then swimming in this horribly glupey sweet sauce that would have made the dodgiest of the dodgy Chinese takeaways embarrassed. Very unpleasant and really not one anyone should order themselves. So overall it was £12 out for lunch when it should have been £20 but I do feel like I was overcharged again by 50%. I doubt I'll be back to try the food again!

Flatbreads with dips. Ok appetiser. Aubergine was the best!
Chris B.

Having spent the day helping friends move house, I was well and truly starving. We headed out on a warm summers evening to a very full Manchester and tried a few places that were all full! We found an unreserved space at the much hyped Artisan and so we were very grateful. Our waiter Greg was very friendly and was quite good at the selling of additional dishes, which isn't a problem for me at all, and he was very attentive. We enjoyed flat bread and dips (the puréed aubergine was amazing (even if it did look a bit wrong)) although we were surprised the food came before the much needed drinks. We also had to ask what the dips were as the lady who brought said bread didn't explain what we had. We then had starters of gnocchi with peas and beans and baked chorizo with toast. Both delicious and tasty and not too filling. Both really enjoyed them. Mains of pulled baby ribs burger and grilled chicken burgers - both with shoestrings fries - were tasty and again, generous in size. I wanted the half chicken myself but they had run out l, which was disappointing. The wine was only just chilled and in a restaurant that was almost as hot as the sun with very little air con, the tap water was going down very quickly! This filled me up more so no desert for me, but the better half had brownie and ice cream and it looked like a chocolate lovers dream, and I'm reliably informed it was light and lovely! £68 for a decent meal on a Saturday night in town was about right. The menu wasn't what I was expecting and the service, whilst our waiter was attentive, some of the other bits could be improved and other diners were frustrated at the heat of the restaurant and how long it was taking for food to arrive. Having been and got it out of my system, I wouldn't rush back. For a similar price, neighbouring Neighbourhood gets my vote.

Sexy, trendy, and cool is how I'd describe Artisan. The restaurant is dark and sleek with big comfy furniture and dining tables. I came for lunch and didn't have reservation but had no problems getting a table. The menu is pretty straight forward- different types of pizzas, burgers, small dishes, and large ones like paella and ribs. They had an extensive wine, beer, and cocktail list but I didn't try any cause it was way too early to start. This would be an absolutely awesome place to lounge and drink on a Friday or Saturday nights with friends though! As for the food... It was pretty good. The prices were reasonable, ranges from £9-20 so it won't break your bank account. My friend and I ordered the seafood paella and smokey BBQ pulled pork pizza. I'd rate the seafood paella an "eh"... It's nothing special, pretty good mix of seafood- mussels, shrimp, calamari as well as it includes bits of chicken. It lacks any distinct flavour and is really just rice with tomato sauce and seafood/chicken. It didn't have that toasty bottom that I like either... Boo! As for the pizza, this had a lot going for it and tasted nice. The pulled pork was tender and did pull apart. It had a nice smokey and sweet flavour. The pizza is a thin pizza so the crust is really crunchy. I'd go back to this place for their pizza for sure! The staff was attentive and was available whenever we needed them. There's a mailing list to be meme bet so you can get discounts and such so I signed up for it since this will probably be one of my go to places for drinks and small bites to eat while lounging with friends.

We'd always known the restaurant was here, but since we don't gamble we'd never set foot inside before. It's somewhat strange, having to walk through the casino to reach the restaurant and I must say I didn't find the experience especially pleasant - but maybe that's just me not liking gambling. Once in the restaurant it's a different story, with some lovely exposed brickwork for the old building. Service was excellent and the food we had was delicious - I had salmon, followed by the roast beef and the bread and butter pudding. I've got to say though, I had food envy when I saw the sticky toffee pudding and wished I had ordered that instead! Prices are reasonable and the food is good - but I just didn't like the fact it was inside the casino.

The star rating is based on my overall experience over the several times I have been. So, tonight, we arrived and had a drink in the Vega Lounge, I went for the Hendricks Honeyapple (I have a current obsession for cocktails with gin) and it was lush. Mum had the Zinfandel Rose and said it was good. Went up for dinner and were shown to our table, which was by the window so had a good view. After taking our order they brought some sourdough bread and homemade butter and was lush. My starter was the Goosnargh hens egg. I've had this before so knew what to expect. It was very nice and would be good if you're a veggie. My mum had the whiskey cured salmon and was very impressed. I took photos if the starters and will upload after this review. For main, mum had the sirloin steak which came with onion rings and chips. Mum really enjoyed it. I had the sea bream which cane with quinoa and rhubarb and was ginger flavoured. Part of the reason I ordered this was because I was unsure about the combination of fish and rhubarb, but it worked really well. I forgot to take photos, sorry. The dessert was the highlight. We shared as we were feeling full. I've had this choice before but being mum's first visit, I ordered this as I knew she would love it. What am I talking about? The white chocolate and whiskey croissant pudding with single malt ice cream. It is LUSH. Highly recommend. Mum loved it and wished that we hadn't shared. I wish the ice cream was available on its own as for me that is pretty damn epic - ice cream and whiskey together, what's not to love?!?! I actually remembered to take a picture so will post. The service was impeccable, friendly waiting staff and perfect food. This is standard for me in my experience of this place and tonight was no exception. Highly recommend it.

Magical? Chemical?…read more The alchemist is not only a nice surrounding to sit in but the service and food are great and delicious. When we checked in and were asked if there were any allergies we made jokes about my husband's allergy to cinnamon - that we would not need to worry about out it before desert. We ordered a few items from the menu - which is a very delicious mix of classics with some twists (tempura fried fish and chips for example). Order was taken and a couple minutes later the manager came and said "I am sorry - but the sauce to the fish contains a bit of cinnamon" wow! We change the order of course and the manager came back to the table asking if we would be worried about cross termination. We have been not and everything went well after that. Great service. The food itself plays with the alchemist theme for example the chorizo meatballs come with a syringe to inject your own amount of cheese (what you think? Yes of course o injected the whole Syringe into the little delicious meatball duhh). The menu consist of a lot of small items which makes me so happy since I can have so many bites of different things and at the alchemist they are all worth it! And of course classics like burger, salads and sandwiches alongside their mains. The menu is not too big but literally has something for everyone. You have to try the crispy pork skins! After we had been told that the crispy fish contains cinnamon my husband learned they offer their "chicken in a basket" as a vegetarian version as well and that is what he got. Damn that is so good: A bed of chips (fries for our American friends) are surrounded by one of the best coleslaw I had in a long time (almost as good as Guy Fieri's if not even better) then slightly pan seared onions and peppers layer on top of the fries. Ready to be mixed in. Then of course a generous amount of chicken or in this case plant based chicken smothered in a sweet chili sauce. Not to forgot to mention that it came with an extra little bowl of dipping sauce. Delicious! We also had a mocktail which name I might not be allowed to recite here let's named it "virgin adult film star" what a perfect combination of fruit, creme and sweetness. Yummmmmm To end the night I had coffee and Choclate - any serving of coffee comes with a set of three pralines. What a way to end the night at the alchemist. My lemon & ginger vodka/yuzu concoction was delightfully refreshing, would return just for that. Incidentally there's also a massive gin menu. Food and wine: We took advantage of the January 2 for 1 tasting menu deal which is great value for 7 courses, although the 5 course tasting menu is worth a look even at full price because I think it works out close to a 3 course a la carte meal. - First course was a lovely butternut squash and goat's cheese amuse bouche - evocative of classic Bologna stuffed pasta fillings. Unusual rose vino verde was not the stereotypically sweet rose, not a particularly memorable wine though. - Second course was a celeriac and truffle soup. This came out very hot so I was just staring at it for ages. It smelled amazing but oddly didn't taste of much for me. Probably my least favourite dish although I think this is the one that came with a Hungarian white wine that was absolutely wonderful - Third course was beef short rib cottage pie! The short rib was absolutely delicious, the potato didn't really have much flavour. Served with a really delightful Malbec (I think! Slightly forgetting the order here...) - Fourth course: stone bass (never heard of this fish before) with various interesting sweetish accompaniments e.g. nuts. This course was delayed behind it's pairing wine so long that I'd actually finished the wine before it arrived! Also it was a little cold so perhaps it had been forgotten for a bit. However the taste was still pretty good, the texture of the fish was quite firm which I liked. Thought it was a bit strange to switch to fish and white wine after the previous dish, but I suppose beef followed by duck might seem too heavy. - Fifth course - duck - very well cooked with a great rich flavour, one of my favourite courses. I believe this came with a southern Italian wine made using the passito method. - Sixth course was a little lemon sort of mini magnum. Yum! - Seventh course was a take on tiramisu that was also great (sorry am losing energy here, but you get the idea. I'm normally not as keen on desserts but I thought these two final courses balanced each other really well and carried through the standard of some of the best earlier courses). Décor: boyfriend liked it, I thought it was quite boring and not very attractive. However it definitely is not stuffy or intimidating, which is nice Music: classic rock! Bf spotted many of his faves e.g. AC/DC, Ozzy Osborne. A great feature of the restaurant Service: generally good and very friendly although timings of one of the courses seemed off as mentioned above. Also we were abandoned a bit at the end, my pet peeve. Overall: might not pay full price for the 7 course tasting menu as the food wasn't outstanding across the board, but would definitely consider the 5 course tasting menu and the very reasonably priced pre theatre menus are a no-brainer. A great addition to Manchester's dining scene, especially as it caters to so many different occasions/budgets and both the cocktail and food menus are interesting and different to other options. I will definitely return!
