Magical? Chemical?…read more The alchemist is not only a nice surrounding to sit in but the service and food are great and delicious. When we checked in and were asked if there were any allergies we made jokes about my husband's allergy to cinnamon - that we would not need to worry about out it before desert. We ordered a few items from the menu - which is a very delicious mix of classics with some twists (tempura fried fish and chips for example). Order was taken and a couple minutes later the manager came and said "I am sorry - but the sauce to the fish contains a bit of cinnamon" wow! We change the order of course and the manager came back to the table asking if we would be worried about cross termination. We have been not and everything went well after that. Great service. The food itself plays with the alchemist theme for example the chorizo meatballs come with a syringe to inject your own amount of cheese (what you think? Yes of course o injected the whole Syringe into the little delicious meatball duhh). The menu consist of a lot of small items which makes me so happy since I can have so many bites of different things and at the alchemist they are all worth it! And of course classics like burger, salads and sandwiches alongside their mains. The menu is not too big but literally has something for everyone. You have to try the crispy pork skins! After we had been told that the crispy fish contains cinnamon my husband learned they offer their "chicken in a basket" as a vegetarian version as well and that is what he got. Damn that is so good: A bed of chips (fries for our American friends) are surrounded by one of the best coleslaw I had in a long time (almost as good as Guy Fieri's if not even better) then slightly pan seared onions and peppers layer on top of the fries. Ready to be mixed in. Then of course a generous amount of chicken or in this case plant based chicken smothered in a sweet chili sauce. Not to forgot to mention that it came with an extra little bowl of dipping sauce. Delicious! We also had a mocktail which name I might not be allowed to recite here let's named it "virgin adult film star" what a perfect combination of fruit, creme and sweetness. Yummmmmm To end the night I had coffee and Choclate - any serving of coffee comes with a set of three pralines. What a way to end the night at the alchemist. Great atmosphere perfect service and delicious food and drinks.

Or so you would think.. We turned up on nye to start off our celebrations in style with lobster and champagne. The restaurant was empty at 1.30pm. We were literally the only people in there. Un phased we sat, chose our lobsters (1lb either grilled or steamed) and waited. We ordered some champagne (£50 for a bottle of Moët. Fairly priced for a restaurant we felt) and some cocktails which were lovely but took an absolute year to arrive. These almost took longer than the meal to prepare (about 25 mins) which considering we were the only people there and we only ordered two whole cocktails in total.. Was probably a little too long to go about making a couple of drinks. Anyway, they arrived eventually and were lovely And were quickly followed by the food. Now let me tell you, a 1lb lobster is not a big lobster. I knew this and have a fairly small appetite so I was quite happy with what i received, however, other members of the party looked a little deflated. There isn't that much meat on the crustacean, even if you pick it to death. However, a 2lb one would set you back £45 so it's up to you.. You do get unlimited fries and salad to fill you up. The fries are great, thinly cut and crispy. Not too salty and full of fresh flavour. The salad consisted of mainly lettuce leaves with a sprinkling of Parmesan and the odd crouton which was nice but it was a little soggy in places as though it had been sat around for a while.. The lobster itself was lovely, I prefer mine grilled and it was very well cooked. They come topped with garlic butter which is my favourite thing to have with lobsters and most other things that come out of the sea so this was perfect for me. You can also opt for steak, we didn't have the 10oz rib eye but if you opt for this again, unlimited fries and salad and a sauce of your choice. We ordered a couple of sides, garlic mushrooms and the steak bites. Both were brilliant, the steak bites (effectively a steak cooked rare and slice into bite size pieces) was beautifully cooked and a lovely lean cut of meat. The mushrooms were huge and fresh and again, coated in garlic butter. We ate and drank fairly extravagantly throughout the meal (more beers cocktails and champagne) and the bill only came to about £50 each which was great. We finished off 2014 with a good meal and lined our stomachs perfectly (not too heavy) for the night of New Years partying ahead. Decent place, would go back for an easy lobster, although we may opt for the next size up next time.

I visited Mr Cooper's after my dreadful stay at The Midland Hotel, hoping there would be one thing to at least salvage the stay and make my stay better, hoping the food would at least try and make up for an awful nights sleep on a pillow which gave me a headache. I'm never afraid to admit when I'm wrong, and I was wrong to expect the breakfast to be different to the shambles of a hotel in which Mr Cooper's is located in and run by. I was drawn to the breakfast selection which was so small, which for £20 was dreadful (although it does go down to £13 if you book in advance with the hotel reception if you're staying there), it mainly consisted of scrambled eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, black pudding and sausages in terms of a cooked side, there was also some fruit juices and cereal, and not a great deal of fruit which also was a shame. Another thing which puzzled me was the fact they produced a menu and even were willing to charge for extra, such as £3 for Eggs Benedict. £20 for a breakfast is already much more expensive than rivals and any restauraunt with decency who actually know this is daylight robbery, for example, the Hilton Manchester Deansgate has a much more broad selection (and better quality), with extras provided in the price for £13.95 (£17.95). Extras which were free included poached and fried eggs, but I can't understand why they weren't provided anyway. I love eggs and this is generally all I eat at a hotel buffet but I'm sad to say, the eggs here were far from pleasant, the scrambled eggs just were bland, they were unseasoned which is inexcusable and they were also watery. It didn't stop there, the poached eggs I requested also were too vinegary, and the fried eggs just tasted really basic and low quality, however, this food which was inedible was probably only what was to come compared to my omelette. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette, not only was this omelette far too cheesy but it had a horrible taste I couldn't pick up on, meaning I had no choice but to spit it out. The only other extra I ordered was gluten-free bread, which wasn't bread as I expected, it was a hard, seeded roll which wasn't very enjoyable either. The selection of fruit juice was okay, however the orange juice was confusing, they had a long title for the orange juice which stated it had pulp, therefore I can't understand why they are advertising it has pulp in the title, when the other one does too, as it doesn't give you a selection? Having two of one beverage is boring and unneeded anyway when they could have a much better selection of juice - they do have the space and equiptment so they don't have an excuse. The staff at the breakfast service seemed nice enough and that is probably the nicest thing I can say about Mr Cooper's, which provides The Midland's hotel breakfast at a very premium price, for items which are so far from premium, you could find them in Poundland if they sold food, and perhaps the chefs should be working there too until they can learn how to make omelettes without an omelette maker and how to season an egg, sadly like The Midland hotel, I strongly feel Mr Cooper's deserves a single one-star rating.

That's one of the many reasons that Mr. Cooper's is an exceptional venue - they've built a lovely indoor garden area where patrons can enjoy their wonderful food. Mr. Cooper's has lovely ambiance, delicious food, and an attentive, friendly staff. We were greeted warmly when we arrived, and didn't lack for anything throughout the course of our meal. Tip: The cocktail menu here is quite diverse and it contains some excellent choices. I tried the Beehive, and was very impressed! We dined at a nice table in a beautiful spot under a tree. The service we received was excellent, and the food was nothing short of amazing. We started with the ham hock, poached egg and brown sauce. This dish was pure poetry! Next we shared the lamb. It was cooked to a tender pink perfection; wonderfully flavorful as well. We also had several sides. All of them were excellent, but my hands-down favorite was the cauliflower gratin. I very much enjoyed visiting this lovely restaurant, and look forward to returning when next I'm in Manchester.

Walking in, it doesn't feel like a restauraunt at all and I did struggle to find this place at first and I had to use Google Maps in my own city and only located it through it being opposite Salvi's. The place inside is huge, you enter through a bar, upstairs you have the restauraunt and terrace area, keep going up and you have Head Office. The staff were so friendly and kind especially the host who escorted me upstairs and to my seat. The gluten-free menu had some good options, I ordered a gluten-free greek kebab, I was told it consisted of chicken, peppers, onions and it sounded pretty good so I ordered it, the service, however, was really slow and I must have been waiting over 20-25 minutes only to be served a gluten-containing item instead, it was served with a form of bread, I had to check it was gluten-free, only to be told "No" I asked them to remake the dish as it wasn't gluten-free to avoid cross-contamination which they had no problem with, again this meant I had to wait even longer which was a pain considering the restauraunt was mostly empty, with only 3 or 4 tables of which looked like staff sitting there, probably from Head Office as they didn't seem to be ordering food either, I totally understand waiting for food when it's busy but considering it was virtually empty, I can't understand why or at least I didn't understand why until I tasted the food, I couldn't understand why a stunning, large venue offering 50% off food could be empty, of course until the food. My kebab was awful and if it wasn't for the staff making it free due to my long waiting time and the fact I didn't want to spend much longer in the restauraunt, I would have sent it back. The chicken was bland, and it also had halloumi on which I wasn't expecting, I bit into this and it tasted so bad, halloumi is one of my most hated foods anyway, accompanied by something which tasted like pico de gallo, this just put me right off my food regardless, I do think a better explanation either on the menu or from the staff at what food would be served is warranted, as I didn't get what I was expecting at all. The portion size for the prize also is laughable, my dish normally would have cost £18.50, with no sides - plus a service-charge. 1* - Considering how great the host and most of the staff were it's a shame to give such a low rating, but I think it is warranted given the circumstances of the long wait times, poorly described terrible food and the fact I was given gluten by mistake and if I hadn't of been suspicious and asked to confirm if my food was gluten-free, I could have been really ill. By the time my dish was remade, I had lost all confidence in this place to be able to deliver a safe meal regardless.

We booked for 6 of us early on in the morning so we secured a nice booth in the sun. After first arriving we we're sent to the bar as our table was being relayed - after standing there for sometime we tried to get the attention of one of the waiters and eventually we we're taken to a table. However, after this minor hiccup the staff were very accommodating and gave us the very last table in the sun on request! We perused the menu and given it was a special occasion we went all out. Starting with some sharing flatbreads and humous whilst we decided on our order it was just the right nibble to share on a summers evening. For starters I opted for the scallops thermadore which arrived in the shells with some tasty spinach. The sauce was so light and tasty - again perfect for a hot evening! Fo the main I went for the rump steak which came with fries and a sauce of your choosing. It arrived perfectly cooked to my order and with my peppercorn sauce on the side. The fries were perhaps a little too on the skinny side to go with a steak but they were seasoned well. The sauce was about average - I am being slightly picky here but i would have preferred if it was more on the creamy side and lacked peppercorns! I also shared a side of broccoli with chilli and ginger - when it arrived it didn't look like it was worth the £4 we paid for it but it was tasty and well-cooked. Too full to opt for a pud I taste tested some of my friends - the new york cheesecake was pretty average however the passionfruit creme brûlée was to die for! Overall the food was delicious - if you have money to burn and it's a nice evening I would totally recommend this place however if you were sat inside I can see the atmosphere being very different!
