The Friday wine down is a great time! I was invited to celebrate my friends birthday and we had so much fun. The DJ plays a mix of current and old school hip hop/r&b. The drinks were strong and good. The food was delicious. After the food orders slowed down Que even came out and partied with us for a while. This was the perfect start to our girls night out.

Vegan Mac N Cheez + Vegan Chicken

I went to this restaurant with my family a few years ago, the Mac-n-cheese was SO good we had to come back. During our visit to Detroit we came twice simply just for the Vegan Mac. Everything we ate was really good, I also recommend the peach cobbler smoothie. The servers were very nice, wait time to get your food can be a bit long though depending on how busy they are! Would 100% come back any day

I've never taking a cooking class, let alone a group one. So I I did not know what to expect when I arrived. The class was booked, which was a good thing. The host Que and the other guests were full of good vibes and good energy. This class was "Taste of Jamaica" with Chef Khashana. She was a Jamaican native and gave us a little info about her background. It was a large kitchen with seating around it like a diner. The meal we helped to prepare was jerk chicken, rice & pea (beans) and cabbage. They had us individually come up and help with the preparation of the meal. That was actually really fun. While doing so my fellow class goers cheered each other on. Great for those of us less seasoned in the kitchen. Pun intended . The meal turned out really well. We made mild and spicy chicken. We all had the chance to smell and taste the fresh ingredients as we prepared the meal. We were also given the recipes for all dishes. All items were cooked perfectly. The only issue was that the cabbage lacked seasons but still cooked perfectly. I would definitely take another class here.

I highly recommend!!!!! We have visited a few times and never regret it. A small, welcoming space with big personality and delicious food and drinks (the espresso martini is my fave). I come for the vegan options so I don't have to worry about my food allergies, but my family has enjoyed the non-vegan options as well. The environment is fun; Que is always wonderful to talk with and has so much to be proud of in what she has created here...and if you didn't know - THEY ALSO CATER...and do cooking classes!!! Que's daughter Kaitlin is great and I enjoy talking with her as well. We've been in for live dj and a loud, fun, diverse group of people. I love what Que's got cooking here and she's got a faithful customer for life! Happy to support her with my dollars and my words of encouragement and recommendations to others!

Quaint, Unique, and Exactly what we were looking for! Entertaining family in town and she was vegan so catering to her we went to experience The Kitchen by Cooking with Que. The staff makes you feel comfortable and at home when you walk in with warm smiles, patience, and attentiveness. They are knowledgeable about the menu and able to offer sound recommendations. We created a smorgasbord of delicious bites: Stacked waffle sandwich, creamy loaded grits, Mac and cheez, and kimchi hash. As a firm pro-meat eater, I want to state that the stacked waffle sandwich was one of the most scrumptious breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. 10/10 would get again and will be returning to re-enjoy it. All the dishes were prepared with a depth of flavor, delectably plated, and sung with love in every bite. Que is performing art and delivering sound food science, can't wait till next time.

I wish I could give half stars bc I'd go to 4.5 but I can't justify 5 stars because of some service issues and not every dish was amazing. But despite this, I would highly recommend trying this place and I'd definitely go again. I ordered the hot Italian sandwich, my mom got the oh kale yeah burger, and her friend got the fish sandwich. We also got the spicy chickpea soup. First off, the kale burger was AMAZING!!! That mushroom vegan cheese blend is so freakin good. The waiter said that is a classic that's been on the menu so on his recommendation, she got it. I can't comment on the fish sandwich bc I didn't try but her friend said it was good. My hot Italian sandwich wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing like my moms burger. It did lack some flavor. (I asked for some hot sauce with it but it never came). The soup had an ok flavor but it was mostly like liquid with chickpeas in it than a proper soup. Also the inside of this place is so cute. It's super communal but it's so light and airy and homey inside. The staff was VERY nice and so was Que herself. She has so much energy and passion for her place. I love it! But the service was overall slow and they kept messing up. It took a while to get our food, we never got water (Que realized this and got us some) for a long time, I asked the waiter for hot sauce but he never brought it, and it felt like we were waiting an hour for the bill. My mom didn't notice bc she was enjoying the time with her friend but I did. They also brought out a cup, not bowl of soup, but they graciously didn't charge us for the soup at all and brought an extra cup out. I don't mind mistakes. We all make them. But there were several issues especially with wait times. There were several people waiting around for carry out orders and stuff and the staff kept saying "it will be out in two seconds" but it was more like twenty minutes.

Very beautiful ambiance Airy and open with tall chairs and pleasant staff. The vegan waffle with real maple syrup (tasted like the Michigan delicacy) was a pleasant surprise. Advertised as vegan, they accommodated we omnivores with real chicken to go with this good waffle. The coffee was strong with a interesting blend of cardamom and cinnamon added which was a hit with me . The service caused the loss of star for this new midtown favorite. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to make a waffle.

My boyfriend and I tried the pizza(wasn't on the menu yet so I'm not sure what it was called I just know it was super cheesy had pepperoni and jalapeños which complimented the flavor soo nicely and we aren't even pizza fans like that especially not with jalapeños but I would definitely get it again), the all American deluxe burger and waffle fries(I loved how it wasn't a dry burger like it was real juicy and the fries were A1), and the Gordita crunch tacos(tasted like I got them from an authentic Mexican food truck like F**k a Taco Bell fr). With the five star service they give I don't even mind the prices at all, like I would tip that much anyways because they deserve every penny they receive fr! And still tipped lmao. We pulled up to order but you have to pay online for card and they weren't accepting cash so we just ordered from the car with our phones from their website which was cool because it was cold outside lol. Fast service and I wish I would've caught the guys name working he was such a sweetheart! I love people who love their jobs and show it.

Wasn't enough to stop us from venturing in the sub 20 degree weather to check this place out. It is SO cute inside. We were seated immediately during brunch service on a saturday. I was really hoping to try a coney dog because my vegetarianism precludes my consumption of the OG version. They only serve that shit during lunch or dinner so unfortunately, I was not able to order it. I was mentally in denial about this possibility when I was looking at the menu so I didn't really adequately have a back up planned. I asked the server for a recommendation and she directed me to the griddler, a breakfast sandwich of vegan sausage patty, eggs, and cheddar flanked by two pancake buns. DELICIOUS. What a nice combination of sweet and salty flavors. The pancakes were so good I wanted a plate of them afterwards. GF ordered the shrimp and grits which she really enjoyed. I'm not a fan of seafood so this wasn't for me. Servers were lovely but it took a long time for our drinks to come out, we had to ask again when the food was served but we had not received our beverages. I was so dead set on ordering the fucking vegan coney dog that we ordered it for delivery the following day. It was ECSTASY. I would say better than sex but that doesn't even do it justice. I'm so grateful I was able to try this heavenly Detroit classic without eating a dead animal to do so. We also ordered the chili cheese fries which were also fantastic. What a fucking gem of a place.

Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender brought us a glass of wine while we waited. It took about a half hour, but we were shown to our table for the night and promptly greeted by our server. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon. It's definitely for a specific mindset and type of celebratory occasion, which is often not the one I'm in when I'm going out to eat with friends.
