Heard about this local rum bar from a tiki friend. I would definitely say it's tiki adjacent and has the best if not one of the best rum selections in southeast Michigan. Dave, one of the partners, and Liz, our bartender, were so welcoming and knowledgeable. Took us forever to choose rums for our daiquiris due to the vast number of rums they have available. The front is a cozy bar and the back has games. We stayed in the adult section up front. They have food on the menu, but I was having liquid lunch on this visit. Parking is easy on the street. Tocororo is right next to Eastern Market, so it's a fantastic location to hit if you're visiting the area on a weekend. It's got plenty of seating and we were able to just walk in pretty easily. We ordered the buffalo curry fries as an appetizer and I ordered the chimichurri lamb burger as my main. I thought it was excellent, had a ton of flavor, and I would definitely go back for it again, as well as trying some of the other options. Solid prices, good portions, and great flavors. We came here for the arcade area, but came back a second and third time for the food. Tocoroco is the bar/restaurant side and the food is unreal. The whole place is amazing! They have a very nice cocktail menu with a mixologist behind the bar that knows how to make a perfect cocktail. My favorite they have is the Cranberry Botida. Best new food place I've had in God knows how long. Only 4 of us, we are all bad at making decisions(and had our of towner) so ordered a lot of stuff. We ordered every drink on the menu(not joking) and there is something for everyone, I often don't like gin or bourbon and those were some of the best combos I've had. I will say some are certainly heavy on the sugar but you can always ask them and the bartenders know which ones to suggest. I ordered vegan phish sandwich and vegan chicken kimchi Sandwich. I loved vegan phish sandwich, i was worried it would truly taste like fish, and I can't stand the taste of fish. But it didn't, the texture was definitely more correct flakey and moist, amazing toppings perfect ratio of bun and everything it was awesome. The kimchi chicken sandwich was equally amazing a little spicy couldn't finish way too full. THE BUFFALO CURRY FRIES ARE EVERYTHING, plenty to share. I'm vegetarian(I do eat cheese though but no mayo). All other sandwich options you can substitute the meat options for a vegan patty which I wished more places did. Also the table ordered the mushroom spread and the spicy olive spread everyone loved both. Other people at my table that order the lamb burger said it was fantastic. We only got a drink as we were pressed for time but the service was excellent and we enjoyed our drinks! It's a fun atmosphere with a bar with 2 TVs (one was playing Bob Ross & the other was playing PawsTV) and has tables in a pretty nice space. There are a ton of board games that you can grab and play. Tocororo is also connected to an arcade place next door. Tocororo is located right next to Thomas Magee (Eastern Market is close by but this is located on the other side of I-75, on the service drive). There is free street parking along the service drive (at least, we didn't see any signs like parking Zone signs). We definitely have to come back to try the food as it smelled SO good - Indian and curry spices YUM!! If the food is as amazing as the smells, this place is 5-stars for sure! After a fun mug making event at Dtown Vinyl my friends and I came to Tocororo for food and drinks. You order at the bar and they bring your food to the table. They are a rum bar and have a ton of rum options. I will be back to try the rum drinks. I had been drinking tequila earlier so I wanted to stay with that. They only have 3 types of tequila but made me a quick drink. My friends ordered the jerk chicken chowder and said it was delicious. I got there late so it was sold out before I could order. I got the bacon jam burger with fries. The burger was juicy and well seasoned. The fries are also seasoned. They have recently added a small arcade behind the bar that has vintage pinball games. Found this place on a fluke and loved it. The address on E Fisher Fwy threw me, but it is between Thomas Magee's and the meat market over the bridge and to the south of the main Eastern Market. Owners Connor and David are entire operation, with Connor on the drinks side and David working the food. We started with cherry bbq chips and chervre cheese and moved on to burgers and fries. Both burgers were delicious and loved the buffalo curry fries. I thought the ambiance was perfect, laid back, nice background music, anduted TV's playing pet video station and Bob Ross ;). I was impressed that Connor and Davidade a point of calling us by name - I guess you're only a stranger once! I can see that stopping in for drinks and/or food to or from an event would be ideal. this place goes! i came down here to play some pinball at Offworld and was completely caught off guard by the fact it's a side room connected to one hell of a gem in Eastern Market. not only is the ambiance pretty great, they have a seasonal menu for drinks and eats. i wound up getting three different drinks that were strong and presented beautifully. the vegan fish sandwich was pretty excellent, as the pickled veg and slaw on it was great. the "fish" itself was just a pair of gardein fishless filets which on one hand was disappointing, but very few places move enough product to warrant making a banana blossom filet or something like that. adding $3 to my order got me a solid serving of fries that come with a fairly unique seasoning to them. old bay? seasoning salt? either way, they were salty, crispy, and delicious. overall, good on offworld and tocororo for coming together like this. since scout's closure in ferndale, it looks like this will be my new regular pinballcade and boozery. read more

So I really had no idea what to expect at this restaurant- transparently I thought it would be Mexican food! Instead we were greeted with delicious chicken legs, well seasoned fries, and burgers. The chicken was insanely good and a great price for the portion. These aren't rinky dink legs, you'll leave feeling full! The interior is nothing too fancy but there's a plethora of board games to choose from should your group like to play + a full bar for drinks. Service was great and our waiter was very helpful in making suggestions. We came for dinner on a Sunday night around 7:30, excited to try it for the first time. There didn't seem to be dedicated staff to greet or seat you, so after getting the bartender's attention, we were told to sit wherever. We sat at a table and after a bit the bartender came by with menus. After figuring out our drink and dinner orders, we waited about 15 minutes before going up to ask the bartender if we ordered from him or if someone would be around. He said he's be over and about 15 minutes later, he was. We started to feel like we were an inconvenience, which was later reinforced when I asked for a knife to cut the burgers in half and literally received an eye roll. The food was good, but in no way made up for the unwelcoming atmosphere. I'm glad others had a more positive experience here, but there are too many great places in Detroit for us to return to someplace we didn't love. read more

Great new spot in the former Stache International space. Cool music, good vibes, doesn't look too different from the former spot except that the horses are gone and a few pairs of Tocoroco birds are present. From what I can tell, the food is great. I got the pimento cheese burger that normally comes with chips but you can do a couple buck upgrade the fries. The burger was a dang tall monster! I might have preferred a more medium cooked patty that was thinner to match then bun size better and could have been eaten with a more lady-like bite. Regardless, it was damn tasty. For drinks, I got the Painkiller on ice but I think the preferred style of to have it blended. They actually have a blender here and are not afraid to use it! So if you've been hankering for blended tiki drinks, come on down! I also got the Grog which was potent, pretty, and tasty. Service was great. Attentive, not hovering. Tocororo was very much just ok food wise. However I appreciated the number of vegan food options. The fries were a great texture but they went a little overboard with seasoning. It was very salty. While my crispy "fish" sandwich was overly bland. Additionally I am not entirely sure on what the vibe they are trying to give in regard to the decor. Part tropical, part edgy, part forest with an option to play board games. However it could be a nice ice breaker place to go for a date. People were playing D&D there and they did have books available to use to play also. We didn't have any drinks while we were there but they sounded interesting. I probably wouldn't be pressed to go back but it was a chill spot. The service was really good however and the main person waiting us had a great vibe. read more

Games and a complete set of D&D Monster Manuals for the nerd in you. Bob Ross and Pet TV - I like sports too but a nice change of pace. With trees. Food was excellent.
