Kitchen Bar is worth a look if wanting some hearty food In a casual environment. They have Irish Beef stew (not lamb) which was what we were seeking and it hit the spot. They also have a decent selection of macro and craft beers. Friendly service and live ambience music at times. A few TVs around for watching sports

The kitchen bar is great for a wee pint if you need a wee breath of fresh air away from shopping with the Missus (Or Mister) in Victoria Square. Its got a nice little exterior seating bit and plenty of atmosphere inside. I can't say anything bad about the Kitchen bar but I can say anything spectacular either. The long and short is that its a bar in the city centre, it serves drink and its comfortable to sit and chill in. There are far better and far worse alternatives within walking distance so it averages out on the scale for me.

The Kitchen bar is like a Man crèche on a Saturday afternoon - what I mean by man crèche is that while wives, mothers, girlfriends and sisters are shopping the paring men can be found propping up the bar at the Kitchen. This is due to its proximity to Victoria Square (the Victoria Street entrance). As far as Man crèches go the Kitchen Bar is very good - sports on multiple TV's, a decent pint of Guinness and a jam packed food menu offering all the pub classics. It's also the perfect meeting place when your wife, mother, sister or girlfriend returns from shopping. The Kitchen Bar has outside seating and is a good spot for people watching (one of my favourite pass times) and smoking - fully equipped with electric heaters expect to see Christmas shoppers huddled round them come December.

Perfect people watching post for a puff.

If you want to escape from the shopping in Victoria Square and caffeine isn't going to cut it, The kitchen is a good spot. It's not the sort of place I'd crave on a night out, but for a random pint it is perfectly fine. Filled generally with all sights of life, with tourists, civil servants on liquid lunches, old men watching the football, young glam ladies in fabric that could quite possibly be a fire hazard, it doesn't really have a specific clientèle. There may well be regulars but you couldn't pick them out. There are plenty of bars in the area I'd prefer like Muriels, but for a quick pint or keeping the OH quiet so he can see the results, it is grand. Obviously grand meaning just fine, as opposed to grand like the Palace of Versaille. ;-)

The Kitchen Bar is...well...it's inoffensive. Maybe that's not that helpful, but there's nothing that really distinguishes it from any other modern bar, not is there anything that negative about it. Easily the best thing about it is the location. Having spent years hidden away on Victoria Street, in 2008, the Kitchen suddenly found itself right next to the biggest development in Belfast for years - Victoria Square. Instantly it became well-known as one of those bars everyone had known about but never tried. It's a decent enough bar if you've been shopping all day and fancy a pint before heading home, or if you've time to kill before going to the cinema, but wouldn't be a place I'd think of going on a night out.

It is very rare that I would go here, but recently I took my wife here for some pub grub...we were very impressed...I think we both kept it simple with a bar burger but I remember we said that we would most definitely be back soon. I recall some controversy over the building of Victoria Square as in the initial plans The Kitchen bar was to be knocked down. That would have been a shame as it is one of Belfast oldest establishments and gives Victoria square some feeling of authenticity. This bar will show most of the big sky sport and ESPN football games on their tvs...so if your into that, its a good place to go to see a game.

The Kitchen bar is a great place to go for a bite to eat if you're shopping in Victoria Square and especially if you've had enough of the nando's and TGI's franchises. The place seems to be doing really well from the newly built Victoria Square and there's always a nice range of people in here from all walks of life and of all ages. It's also really popular for watching sports in (while the women shop) and the atmosphere is always really great! I love their food and prices are around the £8-£9 mark. They do a great burger! If it's not food you want and are just after a quick pint (or three) then The Kitchen is a great spot for that too!

During the time I visited, it wasn't very packed so I was seated swiftly. The kind staff accommodated my request to get a corner table. The vibe can be describe is a classic. I really enjoyed all the dark stained wood furniture - gave it such an "old Irish saloon" vibe...maybe because it is haha. I did not have much time to spend in Belfast, so I tried to taste as many traditional dishes as possible with being just one person. With that being said, I ordered a few of their notable dishes - Crown Bar Irish Stew, Steak & Ale Pie, and to finish it off, the Sticky Toffee Pudding served with both the custard and ice cream (really thankful the server offered to give me two toppings, and they were both delicious). All the dishes were great, and are definitely hearty. The stew as well as the pie filling had a rich roux - nice, thick and flavorful. I will say, the pie pastry was not as flaky as I would have liked it; kind of too thick. Overall, it was a great taste of Ireland

I'm not quite the party animal I used to be…read moreback in the olden days, but I do like a night out from time to time, and Katy's is right up our street in terms of the crowd that go there, the music they play, and the general ambiance. They are in a handy city centre position and can be easily reached from anywhere in the city centre. If you're not drinking, there is parking right out the front (if you get there early enough!) if not there are plenty of side streets too! For weekend visiting, be sure to get there before 7-ish, or you may find that you won't get a seat, although it does calm down later on in the night when the Limelight opens and some of the patrons move next door to the club. I must make a point of going back to Katy's soon, it's been too long!

Anyway, apart from the wonderful Public Bar in Melbourne, and possibly Dubliners in Tokyo (actually no, their Guinness is questionable and their 'soda bread' is in fact wheaten), Katy Daly's is my all time favourite bar in the world. This says quite a lot if, like me, you fled screaming from these shores at the first possible opportunity and spent several years abroad. But I've come to realise on my frequent returns, to sign on, that Belfast is actually quite a cool wee city. And Katy Daly's is one of the main experiences for me that encompasses that vibe. Imagine my shame and horror last year in Australia when one of the lead items on the news was the spides in the Village burning the Roma population out of the area. And when any July overseas the pictures beamed in from Belfast are of riots, bottle-throwing spides and triumphalist sweaty-faced Orangemen doing their damnedest to make sure no-one can get down the Lisburn Road. 'Belfast isn't like that!' I'd wail to anyone who'd listen, and plenty who wouldn't. 'Look at Katy's for example!' A rock bar with great music both live and on the jukebox, an unpretentious and friendly crowd, the best pub quiz I've ever been to (yes, even better than Melbourne's), friendly staff who remember your usual (ahem), and good food at good prices, makes Katy's a must visit for any tourist who thinks Belfast is all burning buses and bodhráns. Oh, and most unusually, and welcome, for an average city bar - the ladies are normally outnumbered by the men. Most of whom are of an alternative ilk and not decked out in Ben Sherman and Timberlands, and therefore are generally gentlemanly instead of trying to cop a quick grope as you go past them on the way to the loos (Bot, I'm looking at you). Many of them are long-haired and tattooed to boot. Yummies. In fact, I'm sitting in Katy's right now writing this. Goddesses bless mobile broadband.
