I first started going to jewelry exchange 24 years ago. I had surgery recently lost a screw back on one of my diamonds so I went in to see if they could replace it. They didn't want to mess with it. I also had a pair of diamond earrings that I paid them to make into screwback so I wouldn't lose it and the back kept coming undone and right when I picked them up, I said that this is not tight enough, it needs to be tight so it won't come off and they assured me it was fine. I told them I know it's not. This is not my first time paying for this from them. They did not listen to me. I left upset sad . I lost the diamond that same night after I picked up my diamond earrings that I paid for them to make into screwbacks! I found my diamond in the shower. I was so sad of their work and their negligence on doing it right the first time also the way they treated me!! I just finally got up the courage to come back so finally I did go back. It had been three years of it sitting in my jewelry box and they told me they were going to charge me $80 to redo it and I'm like well if you would've done it right the first time I wouldn't have to come back and the way you guys made me feel horrible is why I didn't come back for so Long! This is a horrible place. They used to have good not anymore. I can't believe they were trying to charge me $80 to redo their work and that I know it took me a while to come in but it's because they made me feel like an idiot, even though I know that they did not make the back tight on my screw back that I paid for they are very unprofessional and rude. First of all this place is a small storefront in what looks like an abandoned strip mall. I went there for a repair. They don't do in store repairs and a jeweler is not present in the store. I was told they would have to send the item to their office in California to get a price to repair the basket that holds the diamond. This place might be ok if you're interested in making a purchase but a jewelry store that doesn't have a jeweler on the premises in a shady community, in a strip mail where there is only one small business in the corner sends off red flags for me. Very different from The Jewelry Exchange I've visited in another state for the same type of repair. Just a really uncomfortable feel. read more

My fiancée and I recently purchased our engagement ring at the Phoenix, AZ The Jewelry Exchange location. I'll go into some detail about our experience below, but first, let's get the elephant out of the room...the location and general appearance of the store is NOT a good first impression (this is why it's a 4-star review). Granted this area near the Metro Mall in Phoenix used to be a vibrant shopping location, but that was years ago now. The current efforts to revitalize the area are still some time from fruition, so you have to be able to see past the blight. Buying a diamond is a large purchase for many of us, so please DO NOT go in blind; Do A LOT of research! Read about the 4Cs and ask questions from someone not interested in selling you anything until you understand a diamond purchase. Know your budget, know the shape you want, know the size you'd like to have and above all else know, and understand what concessions you are willing to make on a diamond to end up getting something you'll (she'll) love forever. Men, I personally don't recommend purchasing a ring without your fiancée present. If you REALLY want to surprise her with something I recommend doing a lot of research into what her taste is and purchasing a simple solitaire. That way if she wants a different setting it's a much easier transition. But, again, I recommend making the purchase together. Read and understand the store's warranty, purchase/return policy, and whether or not you'd like a certified diamond. Once you choose a loose diamond (don't purchase preset) I also highly recommend that you have it evaluated by an INDEPENDENT professional appraiser (who has zero interest in buying/selling to you) before final purchase and setting of the stone. Then have the ring appraised again after setting for insurance purposes. This goes for all stones certified or not. When I was done with research and started looking around I knew exactly what I wanted; budget, stone, and setting. Choice of setting can be very important depending on what stone shape, cut, size and color grade you are interested in. We looked online at wholesale stones, went to several stores including Zales, Shane Co, Jarred, etc., before choosing to make our purchase at The Jewelry Exchange. We looked at loose stones both with the naked eye and through the magnifier. Please be sure you look at the stone and note its inclusions which are internal natural mineral deposits, fractures, etc. that are present in the majority of stones (this is a natural occurrence in a stone refer to the 4Cs) through magnification. And if it's certified examine the certificate. We both knew and understood the quality of cut and proportional balance of a stone that would give us the best "sparkle," and with my setting choice, I knew that I could give a little on color for a larger karat weight. Ask as many questions of the salesperson as you want, and if you don't get the answers you are looking for, or don't feel comfortable go somewhere else. Our salesperson showed us several options in the price range, shape, karat weight, and cut quality we asked for. We were able to choose the option we liked the best and negotiated a great price on the stone. Note that we agreed on the stone price before we even discussed settings; the setting price was agreed upon separately. We then looked at settings. I knew I wanted a solitaire, 6 prong head, in yellow gold. What I wasn't sure about was if I wanted a classic Tiffany, cathedral, or knife edge setting. After looking at the options we choose a classic Tiffany both with the head and band in 14K yellow gold. Note: stones are often set in white gold heads soldered to a yellow gold band. If you want a 100% yellow gold setting it is a special request, and special order. We discussed this with the salesperson and special ordered the setting that we wanted. Lead time for the special order was approximately 3 weeks. This was explained to us at the time of purchase. We took possession of the loose stone after purchase to wait until the setting arrived, and have the loose stone examined and documented by an independent appraiser before mounting into the setting (recommended). We had some questions for The Jewelry Exchange after we had the diamond graded. One of the managers, Austin, resolved all questions to our complete satisfaction. We were called promptly when the setting arrived, made arrangements to have the stone mounted, and are 100% pleased with the final result! It's absolutely GORGEOUS, better than I imagined!!! In sum, yes the appearance of the store and location leave a lot to be desired; however, if you do your research, know what you are looking for, and ask questions until you are 100% satisfied I think you'll both be pleasantly surprised read more

I'm going to leave my review at one star until I am satisfied. Not sure how they can achieve that but I'll give them a chance. I bought an engagement ring, her wedding ring and my wedding ring here. Her engagement ring crown was very sharp so I took it back to be polished down. She woke up the next morning with a cut on her arm. I took it back again. 4th trip. 35 miles one way. I got a call asking for a deposit on my ring which they said they wouldn't do till I got it, but I paid it anyways. She went to pick it up because I was having issues with my insurance company. Anyways, they substituted with a similar ring. I never said to do that. Now I have to take another day and drive all the way over there again to get this right. This will be trip #7 by the way. Trip #8 will be to pick that up. Trip #9 will be when her crown arrives. Trip #10 will 've picking up the ring. I can only see trip #11,12,13,14, coming. All I can say is, I told you so. I didn't want to go here. She did. Because her co-worker did, who I might add, had the same issues. So why did we go? I have no clue. Fix my issues and I'll redo this whole rating. So when you pull into the parking lot of the Plaza you will think that you are in the wrong place but actually you've come to the right place. I was looking for an engagement ring and I wasn't sure what I wanted, but I knew my fiancé, yes I popped the big question since my visit, wanted a halo ring and I knew my budget. While I'm not happy with the cheap @$$ ring my fiancé chose, this has nothing to do with this business. After he proposed (and I reluctantly said yes because every guy knows not to be cheap with this purchase...well all but my guy...but I digress..I love him. He chose poorly. We will get beyond this!), he took me to get my ring sized. I was a bit put off by the location. But inside, the people were dressed professionally and were helpful in my situation. When I first got sized by the gentleman, it seems that we picked too large a size. So when I came to pick up my ring, it was still too big. The jeweler agreed to fix it right there on the spot. It only took about 30 min or so. That was much appreciated because, despite how I feel about the ring itself, it still symbolizes our promise to commit to a life together and I wanted to represent. They understood. So while i was totally expecting a negative experience based on the previous reviews, mine was positive. The staff was professional and friendly. I don't know about diamond quality. I do know it has a brown tint and i read that that is fine but most people just prefer clear. I don't care about that. I would still recommend folks get a 3rd party to appraise any diamond you purchase from anywhere. I asked my fiancé and his experience in picking out the ring was also positive. read more

For the past year (Nov '18, Apr '19, Sep '19 & now Nov '19) I have lost the same diamond 4 (THATS RIGHT FOUR) times because they cant seem to fix it correctly the first time. The first time a sales woman told my husband I probably knocked the diamond out by "banging" my hand everywhere. The second and third time it was because the prong was worn out....here we are AGAIN and the SAME DIAMOND HAS FALLEN OUT. They guaranteed that they checked all the prongs and that they were in perfect condition. This last time I took my ring in I was told that I was jsut outside the warranty period and there was nothing they could do to rectify the situation. Nevermind the fact that it was the SAME diamond, they just wanted their money. I have never been so angry. I usually never write reviews but I've had it with The Jewelry Exchange. Horrid service.... Need a 6mm stone. No one could or would go measure a rock for me.... Did some homework and ordered a stone that should fit for a setting I needed to repair for a customer.... They wanted to get a cheap stone... Paid for 2 day shipping. I am over10 days into this and I am still waiting... Was told it had to ship from Philly to there. Where that is they would not say. Then from there to me... Have they ever heard of drop shipping from where the merchandise is... Do not order from these folks.... No idea about the stone as I am still waiting for it.... I now have lost my own customer as I told them it would be a week turn around... Buy local and spend the extra money for real service....
