Best Decision Ever. We ordered the jalapeno poppers for an appetizer. They were literally mouth watering, phenomenal homemade poppers. The jalapeno is sliced in half and stuffed with a homemade cheese blend and battered in delicious breading, cooked to perfection. I wish we were smart enough to get two orders of them, I definitely could have eaten my own! For the main course, I got the Fettuccine Alfredo. The sauce was absolutely incredible!! I've never had a sauce like Bentley's (that's the chef's name). If I could bottle that sauce and take it home, I would! After telling the waitress how phenomenal the food is, we found out our waitress is the, Sandra D!! To our surprise even more, the head chef came out to introduce himself. His name is Bentley. He told us the alfredo sauce is made fresh to order. We also found out Bentley and Sandra are married and the only employees in the restaurant. I was shocked!! For the prompt service, generous portion size, and incredible food, I was shocked to learn they are doing it all alone! We loved this place so much, we came back a few hours later for dinner. This time we got the bruschetta for an appetizer. Let's just say, their food does Not disappoint! The bruschetta had the perfect amount of garlic and toppings. It was divine. I did get the fettuccine alfredo again. Yes, again. It was that good!! Next time I visit my friend in Fort Wayne, I will be stopping at Sandra D's for some more Alfredo.

Our neighbor is cat-sitting for us and suggested Salvatori's as a good place for Italian, and she was so right! It's not a big space and you may have a short wait for a table, but so worth it. The ambiance is casual and family-oriented, not too noisy even when full, and (best of all) there's No TVs. Heavenly! I had the pasta Apuli (minus the red pepper flakes), she had the Spaghetti Olio and we split a bruchetta and a cannoli for a to-go dessert. The portions are so large, we needed to-go boxes for both dinners even though we ordered the half sizes! Generous doesn't begin to describe this place. Our server was warm and attentive without 'hovering' and the host stopped by to ensure all's well. We're coming back through town on Monday and I think we'll be back again!

Mimi's Retreat

Mimi's Retreat (Auburn, on the square) - dinning "retreat" during the Auburn Fair…read more Here is another one of our family traditions. We enjoy going to the Auburn Free Fall Fair. Looking at the 4-H animals, walking through the commercial tent, getting donuts, people watching and taking in the food vendor sights/smells are part of that experience. We also like to grab a bite to eat while there. However, I'm just not interested in fighting the lines to get an expensive corn dog, sirloin tip and/or fish sandwich....and then having no where to sit, relax and eat our selections. Enter Mimi's Retreat! Mimi's Retreat is small community bar that is located on the south side of the square - so they are right in the middle of the action! They are always open during the fair and tend to have fewer customers than normal. This makes them a great choice to duck into to get a good meal, at a pretty good price and sit & relax away from the crowds. Mimi's has been a part of the Auburn scene for as long as I can remember. They are best described as a community bar. They have some TV's for sports viewing. The attractive looking bar will seat about 10 people. There are less than modern tables to seat about another 40 patrons. Mimi's is set in an old building. They have stayed true to the older feel in terms of wood work, brick and vintage feel. The decor mainly features bar modern day product signs and some historic Auburn pictures. The kitchen is easily viewed as you walk in the door. The place is rather comfortable and inviting. The staff here is welcoming and friendly. Mimi's service may not be the most attentive when the bar is busy - just be aware. The menu is pretty simple and moderately priced. They have the typical bar food with a few add-ons that give them a little boarder touch including non-bar food daily specials. I can't speak for bar service. It seems like they hustle the best they can. Food tends to come out at a decent pace - depending on the crowd. Mimi's is definitely a no-frills kind of place as the non-alcohol drinks are served in a Toby Keith style red Solo cup. Now onto the food. We started with the sweet potato fries. The fries are thin and fried to a moderate crisp - like you would expect, not mushy. The fry has a nice bold sweet potato taste. They aren't very oily. The real treat is the homemade Hawaiian pineapple dipping sauce. It is smooth, thick and sweet. You literally can taste the refreshing Hawaiian flavors which really bring out the bolder sweet potato taste. Definitely a must try! The blacken chicken Caesar wrap is very tasty. The chicken is very moist and nicely grilled. The mild tasting Caesar dressing is applied in moderation and helps pull all the flavors together. Note: this $8 item doesn't come with a side, that is extra. The Cole slaw is homemade and outstanding. It includes white and purple cabbage. Onions, carrots and red peppers are apart of this fresh tasting side. The Cole slaw is mayo based. However, the mayo is very lightly applied and it has a hint of vinegar flavoring - the best of both style Cole slaws. The fish dinner has seven medium pieces for $14.99. It comes with French fries and one side. The French fries were a lot like the sweet potato fries in terms of cut, firmness and oiliness - fairly good. The fish pieces tasted fresh-ish. No fishy or frozen tastes. The meat was soft, tender and slightly flaky. The breading is rather thin. It is also rather plain to taste - unlike a Fish of Stroh type fillet. The tarter sauce has a heavier mayo taste with a mild amount of pickle/tartar flavoring. It definitely isn't sweet or heavier on relish like I like it. Overall...Mimi's makes a good place to pick up a meal regardless of the time of year. Give them a try sometime when you are in Auburn.

Our server was friendly and took our orders promptly. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich, I ordered the breaded tenderloin, and we shared fries. The sandwiches were good, but the fries were a bit disappointing--very small portion for nearly $5 extra. They were thin, McDonald's-style fries. The bar wasn't busy during our visit, with only a couple tables occupied at a time. Staff seemed to know most guests personally, greeting them with hugs. The music was loud, which may be fun for some, but felt a little overwhelming to us. The biggest issue was the restrooms, which had a very strong odor that made the experience unpleasant. Overall, the food itself was decent, but the portion sizes, loud atmosphere, and restroom cleanliness kept it from being a great visit.

Mad Anthony's Auburn Tap Room - dinning & relaxing downtown Auburn, Indiana…read more You can find Mad Anthony's just off the north side of the square in Auburn. It is set in an older building where they have kept the unique brickwork and history apart of the decor - nicely done! There is street parking available...though you may have to hunt for it. The serving team was friendly and helpful on this trip. Mad Anthony's has a large and varied menu. Plenty of choices for most dinners. I can not comment on the beer selections as this isn't my expertise. We started with the cheese curds which were excellent. The curd had a thick breading whose seasoning really accented the cheese and oil tastes. It comes off light and slightly crunchy. The cheese curd was simply delicious. It was slightly gooey and just under a shade under temperature hot. The marinara sauce was thick and heavy on the tomato taste. This made a good complement to the cheese flavor. Definitely give this a try! We also tried the fried pickles. The pickle was a very thin "stick" of dill pickle spear. It has a pretty good tart taste. However, I would prefer a thicker pickle and more bold pickle taste. The pickle was wrapped in a thicker breading that differed from the cheese curd. This breading was more corn meal based and textured. It comes off a little tougher and retains the oil taste more. The dill sauce was really thick, colder and somewhat difficult to dip into. Overall a nice appetizer with a different flare. I've been craving a deep dish pizza and just happened to get one at Mad Anthony's in Auburn. MA has about 8 different deep dish pizzas and 10 flatbread type pizzas to choose from. I went with the medium Politician deep dish pizza for $21. The crust on the edges of the pizza came out a bit tough and crunchy. The interior was nice and soft. The edge crust had a bit of a buttery flavor. The sauce was plentiful and sweet. They use plum Roma tomatoes in the sauce. This gives is a richer tomato taste and zing. It also enhances the moistness of the pizza while keeping the topping thick. The toppings were piled high and thick - as you would expect. There was plenty of fresh cheese to give you that pull apart stretch. The vegetable toppings were fresh and had a bit of crunch to them. The meat was layered nicely and plentiful. The pepperoni and sauce had a nice meat flavor that completed the taste pallet. Overall I thought this was a good pizza. I'm sure there are places that do deep dish even better. A member of our party ordered one of the flatbread pizzas. This looked delicious as well.

Good ole pizzeria in Garrett…read more.. We've seen a lot of press about CP lately, so the ole ball and chain wanted to give it a Go... Good pizza. It's kind of light, fluffy, and crispy all in one. I really liked their red sauce and they load the pizzas up with toppings. Our bill was $60 for two pies (we brought home one of them because those suckers are yuuuuge), a house salad, and two local crafties... That's a win in today's restaurant price gouging world. The restaurant itself is rather plain looking, but it's clean and the service was good... While I don't think CP is on the same level as Oley's, 800 Degrees, or Three Fires, we'll come back because it's respectable pizza. Dave Portnoy 7.7

Coterie Pizza (hwy 327, Garrett, Indiana) - for delicious stone fired pizza and relaxed/casual…read moredining We made a return trip to Coterie after a 3 year absence. Coterie is easy to find. Head north on 327...about 15 minutes north of Dupont Road. They are located in a strip mall, just as you get into town, on the west side of the road. There is plenty of easy-access parking. The restaurant is smaller as it holds about 50 people. It can be busy. There are ample tables for 4 people and some for parties of 8-10 people. The menu is fairly small with only 8 specialty pizzas. Only two items on the appetizer menu - the beer cheese is a MUST try. The pizzas seem pretty reasonable priced for a 12 inch stone fired pizza - $13.45. Coterie has self serve beverage service. You can choose from one of five local beers - and pay by the ounce. Or you can fill up your cup at the soda/tea center. The team here is very friendly and helpful. They all work hard to make sure you have a good customer experience - which we did! Plenty of kitchen help to keep the food rolling..especially at peak diner time! Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Caprese salad: smaller dish for $5.99. All cherry tomatoes and basil were very fresh and cool to taste. The mozzarella cheese and toppings blended well with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar flavors. Easy to share. -Beer Cheese ($6.99): a layer of pizza dough rolled out thin and baked to a slightly chewy texture. The dough has a slight garlicky flavor and cut into nice sized shareable pieces. The beer cheese is smooth, creamy and dreamy! You get hints of beer amongst the mild cheese flavors. The sauce is a bit thin and simply addicting! -Chicken bruschetta pizza: The golden brown crust is a little tough as it is well baked but still chewable. No special flavors are added to the crust. The bottom was soft and white. The chicken bruschetta is not your typical pizza creation. The tomato sauce was rather thin and only added a mild tomato taste zip. The chicken was tender and picked up the flavors that surrounded it nicely. The cherry tomatoes and basil toppings were very fresh and tasty. They blended really well with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar drizzles. The fresh mozzarella cheese was sprinkled in enough to help hold all the toppings in place. If you liked the Coterie Caprese salad...you would really like the chicken bruschetta pizza!

HOT food should be hot. When an entree gets burned and has to be re-made the server should let the customer know, rather than serving the other guests at the table and not saying a word. If a restaurant makes a classic dish (like chicken marsalla) in an unconventional (and disgusting) way they should note that on the menu. If a customer is not happy with the food loudly proclaiming that "people love it" is not going to make the customer like it any better. When a group has THIS many issues in one visit the manager should offer a discount or at least an apology. read more

Never got soup that came with dinner - when we asked it was like - well it came with dinner so it's not like you got charged for it. No bread. Repeated requests for napkins, and second drink came out with the bill, after about a 15 min wait after ordering. I wouldn't waste your time here. read more

Grandson's dinner was tepid. Son-in-law's dinner was burned and then remade - taking waaaaaay too long. The chicken marsala was made with alfredo sauce base (according to the very rude hostess). B Antonio's - Meat pizza and Cheese Bread…read more We had carry out from the Lima Road B Antonio's. We frequent this place often for salads and sandwiches. Hiwever, this was the first time we have ever had carry out pizza. Here is our experience: We ordered a 14" hand tossed meat pizza at a price of $18. The cheese bread was $7. I wasn't as concerned with the price as I wanted to try the pizza. These prices are pretty much in line with other take out oriented pizza places. They had our pizza freshly out of the iven in about 15 minutes versus the 20-25 minute quoted time. The meat pizza has a really good taste. For a crust we went with a hand tossed pizza. They do offer thin crust and gluten free. The crust had a slightly sweet & floury taste - like their breadsticks. It was baked to a nice golden brown color and texture. Overall it was fairly soft and moist to taste. The edges has a nice firm crisp them without being crunchy. Nice for dipping! The pizza sauce is thicker and has a more bold tomato taste. It comes off a little bit sweet and no real spice to give it heat. The pizza makers spread the sauce out the edges - which I like. The sauce gave the toppings a bit of moisture and accented the meat toppings nicely. I was impressed with the amount of toppings on this pizza. The meats come with Italian sausage, pepperoni, ham, bacon and ground beef. The meats seemed to have at least sizable layers of meat. The sausage gave the pizza a little bit of an Italian flavor. The ham and bacon added a nice slightly salty taste. The ground beef didn't do much igger thsn offer an enhanced meat taste. It wasn't greasy. All that was covered in an appropriate amount if mozzarella. I felt like the pizza toppings gave me good value. The cheese bread was a little different than most. Basically they have rolled out their break stick dough and cut into flatter pieces. The dough has a nice slightly sweet floury taste. There is a decently thick bed of mozzarella on top of a lightly buttery-garlic covering. The mozzarella is a bit higher quality so it was smooth and "cheesy" to pull apart. The melted cheese was dressed with some grated Parmesan cheese. I was disappointed in ghe cup of marinara sauce. Im sure it was the same as what was on the pizza - which i liked. However the cup of marinara was extraordinarily thick. So thick that you couldn't dip the cheese bread into it...nor thd pizza crust. The sauce seemed like the thickness might have been caused by over refrigerating it. Regardless it wasn't enjoyable and didn't add to the good experience. Cold Pizza Test - the next day the leftovers were a little bit tougher to chew but not excessively. It retained a decent amount of moisture in the crust and toppings. The Italian flavor in the meats almost disappeared without the warmer temperatures (I ate this one at room temperature the next morning). The cheese and sauce still had a nice flavor. Overall...it had a decent taste for cold pizza.
