We found this place after eating somewhere else and wished we had seen them first. Our older girls were a bonfire and we had time to kill with our other kids. So we stopped in to check it out. The tiki vibe was on point. The drinks were great. My signature Mai Tai was delicious and straight out of Trader Vic's playbook. Our bartender was great and the manager spent time chatting with us about the bar, its history and the tiki scene. I counted at least 40 rums on the shelf, amid a miriade of other alcohols, which tells me this place knows its stuff. We didn't eat, since we already had, but I look forward to coming back to give the menu a try. If it's as good as the drinks and service, The Islander may be our new go-to in Coronado. read more

Terrible service !! Super slow and very rude ! We tried 5 different menu items recommend the sliders chiliquiles were awful! Wonderful location obviously, and the design of the restaurant is rightly on-point. The service was amicable and swift for our large party of 9. The only trouble is the food could be better, and at this price point that's gonna cut it to a 4. It's definitely a fun and lively place, but food limiting the experience at a pricey restaurant will keep me from picking this place if I had a choice. Would come back if my friends wanted to, will have to try a different dish. read more

The ambiance is inviting, but as usual...if you see other restaurants around that are busy, it really explains why this place is not. There was nothing positive a out our food and our server was less than enthusiastic. We waited for chips and salsa that was missing salt and salsa and this was the best thing we were served. Pork was more fat than pork...andwhy serve 2 sides of carbs ??? Macaroni salad and rice?? Odd all around, sad to see yet another restaurant closing due to issues that could be fixed pretty easily. read more

Checked this place out while staying in Coronado. The decor is super cute and the staff was very nice. We sat at the bar and had great service. I had the Sandy Apple to drink, which was very good, and my boyfriend had one of their kombucha drinks, which was also tasty. The burger (OG Leroy's) for dinner was excellent! Well cooked and the jam was super good. The fried chicken dinner on the other hand was very disappointing (we probably should have sent it back since we couldn't eat it) - there was far too much breading on it, very little chicken, and the chicken was a little slimy, seeming as though it possibly needed more cooking time. The rice with it was just your basic white rice. The only thing on the plate we had were the fries. read more

Food was good- not quite traditional Islander flavors and food, but still tasted great, and service was great. I'd still return if in the area to try other menu items despite being a bit pricy overall. read more

I'm local to Point Loma but went over to Coronado to see the lights in Coronado at the Del. My friend and I were extremely hungry and we walked around everywhere to try to get in and eat dinner around 7 o'clock but every place that is a good restaurant was packed. We were next-door at the Henry trying to get in, but there was an hour wait so we kept walking and stumbled upon this place that was not crowded at all so we are seated right away . We ordered the shrimp ceviche appetizer for $17 which was literally 5 tablespoons of food on the smallest dish you've ever seen. The shrimp were basically small shrimp that was cut up like it was bay shrimp, mixed in with a little pineapple and onion, and a ton of chips. It was fresh with no flavor. My friend ordered the garlic shrimp dinner plate. For $29 there was six shrimp and basically 2 ice cream scoops of macaroni on the plate with a little tiny cup of peas, carrots, and edamame that tasted like cafeteria food and probably frozen not fresh for again $29 can you say effing rip off? I was so angry between the ceviche and this $29 dish tourist trap ripoff. Lastly, the teriyaki chicken skewers finally came, which were three skewers for $17 with about 3 inches of chicken on each of them. On the little plate was 5 micro slices of cucumber and 12 carrot shavings. It was a nice complement to the skewers, but there was 1 teaspoon worth. It would've been nice to put a handful on the plate so I could enjoy it with the skewers. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and had a great flavor, which was the best out of what we ordered. Now the disgusting part was we were still hungry and the bill came to $74. Can you say tourist trap? I don't understand how this place will stay in business. I would never come back here ever and I would advise anyone coming here not to walk in the front door as you are wasting your time and money. There are too many better restaurants within walking distance that I would have waited an hour for, and would've been happy to pay double of what I paid for better food quality, and actually walked away full. They will be out of business soon!!!! You have been warned. read more

Poke tacos, crab Rangoon dip and calamari was amazing!! Can't wait to go back! Staff was super friendly and the vibe was great!

Great food, big portions, reasonable price, friendly atmosphere. The pulled pork plate was excellent (including great mac 'n cheese and rice) and the poke bowl was terrific and enormous. Fantastic fries, too - tasty and spicy, Save room for the great beer selection and awesome dessert. Highly recommend. read more

The worst "hawaiian" food menu ever! This is hawaiian food for people who have never been to hawaii so they wouldn't know how completely generic and fake Hawaiian this place is! NOTHING HAWAIIAN here except for the culturally appropriated names of the dishes! read more

The guys behind the bar are always amazing. The food is even better. Love eating here. Crab Dip and Wagyu Burger... that's all you need

I am a local, the food at The Islander is fantastic.. we love the Poke Tacos, Volcano Fries,Kalua Pork Sliders..The Wagyu Smash Burger is the best...and all the entrees as they are substantial and a great value! The cocktail menu is full of Island Drinks .. They also have a "Dinky Donut Shack" fresh made donuts and grab-go Breakfast burritos and egg sandwiches ! I've lived in Coronado for most of my 65 years. I was so excited about a locals inspired theme restaurant. The Islander did not disappoint in ambiance or food quality. Both were excellent! I had a burger which was cooked perfectly. I also had a side order of the best coleslaw I've ever had and that's really saying something! One tiny drawback was the waitress trying to out local myself and my two friends. Lol! It was funny though no biggie. I highly recommend The Islander restaurant. The Islanders is also the name of our Coronado high school sports teams. GO ISLANDERS GO (to) THE ISLANDER!!! PS-They also have cool swag there so pick up a hat or a t shirt on your way in or out! read more

First off, five stars to the staff for friendliness. The greeters and our waitress were great. The vibe is cool, definitely feels vacation-y and has a funky Jamaican theme. Music is played quite loudly but we were sitting towards the back probably fairly close to the speakers. The food. I got the Islander Burger and fries, wife got the shrimp, mussels and shrimp dish. The burger tasted like 60% sugar, 40% beef. The fries weren't anything special, I'd say below average on taste. My wife's dish was 70% a heaping pile of white rice, 3 small mussels, a couple small shrimps, and a few sparse pieces of fish. The quality and taste all around could use some work. To be fair, I believe they just launched the new brand somewhat recently so they might still be finding their groove. Bottom line: mediocre quality food, sparse portions. Felt more like bar food than a place you would plan for dinner. read more

Went in to give this new restaurant a try as the decor looked interesting. Overall a mediocre experience, the restaurant was half empty and they placed us in the back corner of the restaurant next to the kitchen and loud speaker. Then we asked for a pina colada as they specialize in Tiki themed drinks and apparently the machine was broken so the waitress said "we have really good Mai Tai's". So I gave it a try and was quite disappointed as it had a strange chemical/unnatural taste, I'm Not sure if it was the maraschino cherry or tie juice that tasted fake but not my favorite Mai Tai. I much prefer the one they make at Dukes in La Jolla. Appetizers were ok, the pupu platter was enjoyed by everyone. My entree was the fish and chips and it was almost not edible, the batter was tasteless and the fish was soaked with so much oil!! My wife ordered a salad that was bland and both my kids had the shrimp fish tacos and they said they were good. Our bill for four was about $160 which was on the high side for the quality. we all agreed after that we would probably not come back after this experience. Nothing terrible but really nothing above average as well. read more

Bad customer service. There was 9 of us. There were a lot of open tables but told us the wait was almost 1hr! We even told them we can be separated to 2 tables. Seems like they don't know what they're doing. read more

I'd give it a 2.5 stars...Came here because the food looked great on Yelp. Should've gone somewhere else when we walked up and saw how barren it was on a Friday night while other places were bustling, that should have been our indicator but I thought we'd give it a try. Much to our disappointment the restaurant changed their menu and the selection is now very limited. I had the poke bowl which was good but my husband had the pineapple fried rice with spam and it was lacking flavor. Even the spam didn't taste like spam, almost like the flavor had been boiled out of it or it was knock off spam. You'd find more flavor from a microwaveable rice pack from Costco or Sam's. So owners, I'd look into the fixing that dish because it sounds great and looks great but had no flavor. read more

We visited this restaurant and I think it was the first week it was open. The service was great however, the food seemed a little over priced and wasn't really that good. We ordered a chicken fried rice in a pineapple and the flavors were definitely off. The drinks were poorly made and the food for the kiddos was mediocre. I give this restaurant 2 stars for the service but would not recommend it for a meal when you have so many good options in Coronado. read more

Everything was great. Great location within walking distance to the beach and other shops and hotels. Service was great. Great atmosphere. I only had time for an appetizer and the sliders were yummy. My favorite was the spicy margarita. Very spicy, very delicious. This is one of the best I've had. If you are in the Coronado area this is a place you must go to. read more

Our new favorite lunch spot on the Ave. The PuPu platter is everything! Lumpia and the short ribs were out of this world. The fish and chips were very light and the garlic shrimp tacos had the right amount of spice. Portions were very generous as well. We tried the Maui Wowie mango lemonade & Mermaid Water mocktail & they were refreshing and delicious. Service was 5 star from our server, Jason, all the way to the busser, Christian! We will definitely be back. read more

I think Coronado is the perfect place for this restaurant! I was a little unimpressed but I am hopeful they'll get better! Monday afternoon, maybe 2 tables seated in the place. There was a sign outside the door at the host stand that said please wait to be seated- so as we waited, I read a menu. An employee walked out, said don't be afraid to grab a seat, and walked away quicker than we could respond. We weren't sure if that meant come inside or if he was just being welcoming. We waited a min longer, then grabbed a table. Took a min longer to notice us sitting there. Our server was an awesome guy! Made great recommendations for the Leroy's burger with fries, and the Kalua pork sandwich with Mac salad. Burger was awesome, the Mac was my favorite, and I love pork sandwiches but I didn't think mine was anything to write home about. I also had a Mai Tai while the bf had an Orange Ave Wit- Mai Tai was also just ok (And I LOVE Mai-Tais). Could use more umbrellas, fix shaky tables bc we noticed all around us were shaky, and maybe more training on how to behave as a host. read more

Tiki "inspired" but more of a beer and bros place. Never had a Mai Tai without mint in it before, kinda essential part of the recipe. Went on a Saturday and the fleet seemed to take over the place. Was filled with dudes doing their best middle school mustache growing. Very loud vibe, very top gun vs tiki. read more

For me kinda pricey for what it is was i was expecting a little more out of the food and my mix drink was a little weak prolly should've stuck to a beer, I got kabobs nice ingredients but easily made chuck meat with vegetables were 38 bucks for two skewers that were on a platter looking plate and quinoa below and 16 dollar orange spritz mixed drink I think I over hyped myself on the menu my cousin didn't finish he's pulled pork plate he said was nothing to be excited for and I will say the wagyu burger looked good that my other cousin had he said was good for him. I will say good to try one time maybe just be mindful Coronado is never cheap doesn't mean stuff is that great either just believe if other places are booming around this spot should've took that into consideration, I'm close to giving 4 stars because staff was friendly and checked on us and music was fun. read more

My family and I ordered 2x Pineapple Fried Rice (1: Veggie; 1: steak) and 1: Fish & Chips. The pineapple fried rice was delicious. Relatively large plate and the steak had a lot of flavor - soft and sweet. I would order this dish again. The steak was an okay size - I suppose average for the additional price. A lot of fried rice is provided. If interested, there is enough pineapple remaining to scoop out after the fried rice is consumed. We sat outside and the restaurant ensured they provided us with a heater. The bartender was polite and the service was quick. Our waiter was very talkative and he provided a few recommendations - knowledgeable on the dish. Ultimately, we enjoyed the evening and would return again. read more

I liked this place. The ambience is the best part, but the food is pretty good too. There is a nice variety of flavorful options. Only thing that didn't have much flavor were the spicy fried chicken tacos. Really thought that would have the most flavor, but they had none, so don't get those. Other than that, good vibe. read more

Loved it! Super casual and fam friendly, but great for a date night, too. Good, fun drinks, bright ceviches, and very flavorful entrees with large portions. Both burgers are phenomenal- original Leroy's burger and the Drive thru burger are incredible. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to go back for more chili crunch chicken! Hot but not too hot- more flavor than heat- addicting. Max salad spot on. read more

I will never go there again! There was even doubt that they would serve us. We should've left right away. The waitress was completely uninterested, and her attitude was curt. They never checked on us once the food was served. The seafood really was smelly, which indicated to me that it was not fresh. The ambience was not clean . There were tables that sat there with dirty dishes on them. They were completely disinterested. I don't know how this place gets any good reviews. read more

Went for a bike ride in Coronado and stopped here afterwards. We were crazy thirsty and feeling hungry. I got the pineapple fried rice and didn't add anything but the kind waitress, Kimber, said it came with sausage and spam. Super yummy! I wasn't expecting the big portion! My boyfriend got the holae ceviche. It had watermelon and tangerine so it sounded refreshing but there wasn't that many bits in the ceviche, tons of shrimp though! I got the pomegranate lemonade too, it was super good and hit the spot after a long hot beach ride. The place was busy but Kimber made sure to check on us frequently. read more
