    Shrimp tacos
    Amy N.

First time here, came here while visiting San Diego. We tried the Baja fish tacos, shrimp tacos and fish and chips. We also tried a Michelada and a few of the different margaritas. The service was great and the restaurant was clean but small. You sit bar style. I recommend giving this place a try.

Fish Guts in Barrio Logan is the kind of place that proves you don't need a fancy setup to serve outstanding food and drinks. The space itself is pretty simple, but what comes out of the kitchen absolutely delivers. On a recent Friday evening my partner and I grabbed seats at the bar and shared a few different tacos: the De Espada (swordfish), De Coco (shrimp), and the Estilo Baja fish taco. Each one was excellent in its own way. The swordfish taco in particular stood out, but honestly all three were fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. We were served by a friendly young waiter whose name I unfortunately didn't catch. He mentioned he grew up in the neighborhood and was genuinely warm, attentive, and outgoing. Service like that always makes the experience feel more personal. For drinks, I had the Pepino Santo, which I highly recommend. It was refreshing and perfectly balanced. My partner tried the Smokey Mango and enjoyed that one just as much. If you're used to grabbing tacos across the border in Tijuana, the prices here might cause a little sticker shock at first. But for San Diego, and especially for tacos of this quality, the pricing really isn't surprising. One small tip: if it's a chilly evening like it was when we visited, you may want to sit inside away from the open windows or bring a jacket. Great tacos, great drinks, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe. We'll definitely be back.

Delicious fish tacos in sd!! The fish tasted so crispy and fresh, but my favorite was their coconut shrimp tacos. I loved that their tais came lots of cabbage in too that helped balance out the fried foods. I actually really liked how small the store was because you got to look out into the street and really enjoy the view, making it a really charming place to have a quick lunch! I definitely recommend it and if I'm in the area, stopping by again !

Stopped by Fish Guts and was seriously impressed. Their crispy fish tacos are legit -- perfectly fried with great crunch and tons of flavor in every bite. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully put together. Service was really good too -- friendly, fast, and welcoming without feeling rushed. If you're in San Diego and craving excellent fish tacos, this spot absolutely delivers. Simple, delicious, and done right. I'll definitely be back.

All I can say is I really loved this place. It was one of the top food places I was able to fit into my few days in SD, and their tacos were so fresh and this was one of the very few places that lived up to the hype. The Fish Sandwich was amazing. As you can see from my pics so got an assortment of tacos and took recommendations from the staff- who I believe was the owner. He was very friendly and eager to please. The fish tacos were superb, probably my favorite and that's why I stopped in there. When I make it back this is on my priority list to see them again.

Yo, Fish Guts the name, kinda nasty on the ear, Sounds like a horror flick, but the food's sincere. Walked in like "damn, who named this spot?" But one bite of them tacos and I forgot. Baja tacos so fresh, it erased the crime, Even the shrimps spit bars in rhyme. Slaw cold, place got flair, But callin' it Fish Guts? My guy, you don't care! Still, respect to the barrio, flavor's on lock, Five stars for the food, zero for struttin' cock. So if you can stomach the name, take the ride, Fish Guts forever ugly name, bomb inside.

What an amazing space this is. I had walked past it a couple times and decided to venture in. The smoked fish dip was nice and creamy with onions and red bell pepper. So good. Also the service was excellent. The coconut shrimp tacos really hit the spot but my favorite were the swordfish tacos. Not a bad way to spend a San Diego early dinner in Barrio Logan.

Overall the tacos were good. I appreciate how they put their unique spin on tacos. Their tortillas were amazing and you can tell the source local fish. I wish they offered salsa with their tacos and lime. Maybe I need to ask do that. I dunno. I did not like their fish and chips tacos. Tasted like straight mayo potato salad on a fish taco. Their coconut shrimp taco was fine. If I were to go I'm just sticking to their Baja fish tacos. They had great service. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

I came here in June of 2024. It was a spontaneous dinner outing with friends! Parking was hard to find, so luckily our car didn't get towed. The craft agua frescas looked so good! We ended up getting the mango, cucumber, and hibiscus. All their drinks were yummy and refreshing. For food, we shared the smoked fish dip and a variety of tacos. We chose the de hongos (mushroom), fish and chips, and de espada. The tacos were fresh and very filling!

Simple but delicious menu. It's small so you may have to wait. We came here twice and both times had a line. Our recent visit was during lunch rush when they opened so it did take awhile to get a table. Their tacos are small and pricey but they're so fresh and flavorful. The tortilla is also fresh and made in house. They all come with two tacos so my husband and I were able to split it and try different tacos. I personally like the fish and chip taco most. The others were good too but spicy for me lol

I visited this location on a Friday night. Parking was a bit of a struggle, but fortunately there was no wait. Our group of 5 was able to fit at one of tall bar seats, but not sure if a larger party could fit. We were on a taco crawl situation so serving size wasn't an issue, but I can see this as more of a lunch or getting like half the menu to share situation. The menu is quite small, but mostly pairs of tacos that you cannot mix and match. The trick is to trade with people but honestly I did not want to share. I got the De Coco (coconut battered shrimp) tacos. We also wanted the smoked fish dip but they were sadly sold out already. For fried seafood tacos, these did not feel heavy or greasy at all, very well fried. For all the coconut haters out there, you definitely taste some coconut but it's not very coconut heavy like thai food. The coconut bits add more crunch to the fried texture as a nice contrast to the soft tortilla and tender shrimp. The shrimp was pretty fresh with a nice snap. I will most definitely be back for the smoke fish dip and other items!

I gave it 3 stars because I don't see myself coming back. The service and ambiance were great, however, the food was okay. My feedback: - You have to order 2 tacos of the same one when you order, you cannot mix n match, which was a huge bummer - The taco has a small nugget of fish and it's $6 - I ordered the Ensenada taco and it's the tortilla, then small piece of fish then a slaw on top and that's it, so when you bite the taco it taste dry and like it's missing something like a sauce between the tortilla and fish or an additional salsa

Fish guts delivers every time! Fresh line caught local fish and shrimp. Beer and wine served too. Friendly fast service in a cozy cafe style. Plenty of free street parking. Try several plates and share!

I knew it was a speakeasy but he did not. I was trying to double-check on my phone that Craft & Commerce was the right restaurant its housed in (yes) when he tried to jet set off down the block "to keep looking" rather than listen to me. I yelled, "MOTHER!" by accident and then he did truly leave me hahaha. He resurfaced a few minutes later, and then we walked in. It was 5:15 at the time, so 15 minutes after opening. I had NO IDEA how popular this spot was, nor anything about its nation-wide reputation. I actually didn't know that until two days ago when a Yelp-friend at home here in Richmond, Virginia, exclaimed excitedly when I told her we stopped in. The host who greeted us was kind, informed us there had been a line to get in that day, but that they had one barrel left; we jumped on it of course. It was happy hour, so the first cocktail I ordered was dirt cheap at $9. It was the Imperial Hawaiian with gin, rum, lemon, pineapple, and orgeat. I really shouldn't have ordered a second drink after that one, but I did have the classic Saturn later on in the night and it was absurdly good! Definitely my favorite of the two. The moody tiki vibe was so cool and fun. They even had frogs you could play on the tables. We had some fun neighbors too, which livened up the experience even more. The space itself is very small and tucked inside another venue, but that honestly adds to the charm. It's dimly lit with a unique, immersive vibe--think jungle-inspired with eclectic decor. At one point, there were rumbling sounds and subtle vibrations through the chairs, which made the whole experience feel interactive and different from your typical bar. The drinks were creative and fun (one of my friends even kept the drink garnish as a collectible), and the staff was friendly and welcoming throughout. It's definitely more about the ambiance and experience than anything else. I'd come back again--especially around the holidays to see how they switch up the decor. If you're looking for something a little different and don't mind a cozy, darker setting, it's worth checking out.

I parked on the street close to the dinner spot I went to and then walked over to Charade. Ambiance (5/5): Charade is a speakeasy so here's your clue. It's located inside Balboa. Look for the room with the arcade games and you're on the right track. Once you enter the speakeasy, you'll immediately be impressed with the old school charm. It seats roughly 20-30 people and there's a bar on one end and a stage on the other end. Old school red curtains add to the vibe. And here's the best part. On Mondays, it's jazz night. Local musicians will play which makes for a great time. Service (3/5): There was one bartender working when we were there. Overall, she provided pretty good service. There was one comment she made which rubbed me the wrong way but no biggie. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so were on a liquid diet. I did notice that they have a few snacks available like popcorn. Drinks (4.5/5): When you think of speakeasies, you think of elevated cocktails. I look for creativity and an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. The menu here, while not huge, has some interesting options. Outside of the menu itself, the prices are reasonable (especially for California). And they make you stiff drinks which is always appreciated. Taking into account the cocktails and the ambiance, Charade is an awesome laid-back speakeasy.
