Came here for the first time about 3 weeks ago. Fish-n-chips were not bad (a little on the dry & bland side) but my 20 year old daughter had sirloin steak and noodles and she loved it! Fast forward to lunch (08-29-22)...20-year-old takes visiting 18-year-old sister to lunch. They are quickly seated, ordered two nonalcoholic speciality drinks and brought two water glasses and a backup (glass) jug of water. The waitress was "nice" but treated them a bit like children especially when she kept referring to them as "kiddos" which they didn't appreciated. As they waited for their food, a big gust of wind lifted two nearby decorative faux palm trees from their base and the trees slammed down on the table causing the water glasses and jug to shatter everywhere. Both girls were wet and received little help from staff to remove the trees, retrieve sunglass which flew to the ground, assist them to another table or even replace their surviving drinks in the event broken glass landed in them. Once the waitress realized what happened she offered to give them "one" free desert to share (which they didn't originally want) and then ended up charging them for the desert when the bill was delivered! Once it was brought to the attention of the waitress she removed the desert from the bill but seriously?! Food & atmosphere is so so but because of the location tourists will keep this place in business. I would not recommend and will not be back! read more

Came in this morning during soft opening hours! The place is SO adorable! I got the pineapple fried rice with the garlic shrimp and the mango lemonade. They were DELICIOUS! My server was Kevin and he was fantastic. He had great recommendations on the drinks and food items to try. He also came to check on my table often and make sure we were enjoying our time. Cool tiki vibes but a bit touristy. Bartender was excellent, just the right balance of friendly and helpful but also left us to alone to enjoy our meal. Just beers and Baja fish ceviche. The ceviche was delicious. The beer list was ok, it seemed to have one of each style which I get but for a beer snob like me I would have preferred to have a few more options. He was very knowledgeable and recommended drinks when we weren't sure. All of our drinks were so cute and tasted great! Vinny went the extra mile to make sure I loved them. Yummy!! As a vegetarian I was delighted by the cauliflower tacos- delicious!! The Volcano Fries were a tasty mixture of sweet and spicy. My carnivore hubby enjoyed a shrimp and fried chicken taco- he loved them and recommends them. If he recommends them and you eat that sort of thing, then I'd trust him- he's a picky eater! We visited The Islander after visiting Santa at the Del. Our experience was great from the service to the food. We stumbled on this place after being quoted a 90 minute wait at another restaurant. They were super accommodating to us dining with our 3 kids on a Saturday, when apparently everyone decided to visit Coronado. The kids shared the sliders and fries, hubby had the chili crunch fried chicken and I had the fish and chips. We honestly were not expecting much but the quality of the food was fantastic. The fish was two huge filets, breaded and fried with a lemony tarter sauce. The chicken was the real star with 3 huge bone in pieces, crispy skin with a spicy kick. I forgot our servers name but he was a young guy who was so attentive and kind. Would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area. read more

This is one of the newest restaurants in Coronado. I've been here 4 times now. The food is good especially the Pupu Platter and the Grilled Fish Tacos. The drinks are ok. The servers are great too! My only complaint is they have 2 bathrooms and they are ALWAYS a mess. Trash all over the floors and empty toilet paper rolls. You wouldn't expect that for an upper scale restaurant in the heart of Coronado. Clean your damn bathrooms! 2.5 stars. read more

This place is what I like to call a tourist restaurant. The food is not good and expensive. The fish and chips were rubbery and plain. The pork was dry and not very flavorful. The kid's menu was not great if you have a picky eater. But the macaroni salad was good! The place also has a cool vibe. PS I recommend getting chicken tenders on the menu. read more

The food was good - shrimp, egg rolls, wine, and cheesecake - all tasty. Decor was just right, Staff was charming and helpful. But! We could hardly think let alone have a conversation because the music too loud. The type of music and volume didn't fit my idea of an islander experience. Wait staff said that's the way "they" like it. Don't go there for first dates or to catch up with friends unless you don't want to talk to them. The only reason it gets two stars is because the food was decent. The prices were absurd, but it's Coronado, so you can't really fault them for that. But what drives this into such a terrible experience was the music playing at this restaurant. I went there for lunch, and it was loud enough to shake my body in my seat (an experience I had previously thought was only achievable at an EDM concert - who knew?) and that was in the "quiet" section. God forbid you try and have a conversation here. No amount of decent food was worth the headache I had after eating here. I hope to god their staff gets hazard pay because I can't imagine the tinnitus you'd have after spending more than 2 hours here. read more

Pauahi is amazing. 5 stars for him. His customer service was above and beyond. The POG juice, pineapple rice and Loco moco are great! Highly recommend. The donuts were super cute and the fruity pebbles one was my favorite. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the ceviche was a little bit more bitter than I was expecting, but that's just personal preference. Decided to check out the new joint in town. The vibe is awesome, with cool decor and poppin with reggae music. We had two apps (shrimp and ribs) both were really good. Didn't take a pic since we were starving. My husband got the pineapple fried rice and I got the noodles. Not sure the exact names but they were both good. My steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare and my husband ruined his by ordering it well done(he's crazy) he loved it though! I did prefer the fried rice to the noodles, but both were good. The dessert was craaazy good. We had a couple cocktails too. Everything came out super fast and our server, Renee, was really sweet and did a great job. Husband and I stopped in on Monday after Christmas for happy hour. There was a wait for a table but open seating at the bar so we sat there, honestly we preferred that. Happy hour Mai Tai was delicious, as was the painkiller bowl we splurged on for the two of us. Happy hour tacos were very reasonably priced. My husband got the crispy beef, he said it was good but it was really tiny. Shrimp tacos were really good. The chili crunch chicken taco - WOW!! Huge portion, really delicious. Would absolutely get this again. But the star of the meal was the Volcano fries. They had some sort of siracha-honey sauce and they were OUTSTANDING. Try these - you won't regret it. Sadly can't get there in time for happy hour most days but apparently Taco Tuesday happy hour is 3-close so we'll definitely stop by in the future to try more of their happy hour items. And bonus - this place is just down the street from the beach and we finished just in time to enjoy a fabulous sunset. Also shout out to the bartenders - I wish I could remember our bartender's name! We at here because we saw the food as we walked by and couldn't resist! We ordered a variety of items and shared amongst the table. My favorite was the Loco Mocco!! So authentic and delicious! Also amazing is the pineapple fried rice, nachos, ceviche, and crab Rangoon dip. We will definite be back next time we are in town, and might just come back to town to eat here! The restaurant was fun and colorful, staff was incredibly friendly, even while really busy. Great music and relaxing vibe. Bathrooms needed some restocking but overall a very pleasant experience. I felt very welcome in our larger group of 7, which included a few small children. Oh! And I almost forgot that they even have bar table height high chairs so you aren't limited to just the traditional height dining experience. read more

We've been here six or seven times, for happy hour, dinner and for the breakfast. The food is always fabulous. Drinks are always great too. The service in the afternoons and evenings has been somewhat hit-or-miss for us, but the mornings seems to be consistently great service. Javier stands out as being wonderful and so friendly. The food and staff were both lackluster. The smell of the fish and chips is so bad my workplace is currently airing out and my car will smell like dogfood for days. I'm currently dealing with people walking into my office asking what died in the building. At the same time, I just spent probably $25 after tax on that single meal which is tied in a trash bag being taken out to the dumpster in hopes it'll spare someone from searching too hard for a dead animal. Very friendly staff as everyone else seems to agree. Food not good. 25$ fish and chips wasn't edible, each of the 2 pieces looked like a baguette with all the greasy breading. Threw it out. Kids fish plate was ehhhh. I'm not a picky person but I tipped 18% for takeout but didn't even get a set of utensils or a napkin. Zero!! My husband and I went in to watch a college football game on ESPN. The bar and restaurant were NOT busy, yet when the baseball game started, all TVs were switched to baseball "per the GM". Next time, ask your CUSTOMERS what they would like to watch. Out of probably 12 TVs, would it be too much to ask to have SEC football on a Saturday afternoon on just 1 TV?? I stopped by on a Thursday night, as I was curious about the place. The drinks are fruity and fresh, and the food is the island type that I expected upon walking in. If I could give this 3.5 stars I would; as a Coronado local of 30+ years, it's an improvement over LeRoy's, but still a mediocre overall. So much investment in the merch and decor and not enough in the food quality. The lapu lapu was weak for what it was billed- vodka pineapple with TONS of ice. The crispy shrimp was obviously cheaply purchased and overly frozen; but cooked well once thawed. It would be a great dish if the shrimp selected was higher quality. The Kalua pork sliders were average. Not sure I think they taste Hawaiian, there's no kalua pork flavor, but the pork is moist and the bbq sauce has good flavor. The pickles served on the side are probably clausen (yum!). The crab Rangoon is great cream cheese & cheese, couldn't taste the crab & the wantons were almost overly done. The service is young and kind. Happy to support kids in their first jobs. read more
