We needed a place to stay unexpectedly in Willits. We found the Inn At Baechtel Creek partially by word of mouth and partially by just searching. It was late at night (11 pm) and we rang the doorbell. Our wonderful experience began there with the owner who greeted us with a smile and a familial warmth. We got our room which was tasteful, practical and comfortable. Every day got better. We needed flexibility as we did not know how long we would be in town and Laura, Bob and Jan made us feel comfortable and helped us every step of the way. The grounds are clean and maintained, the pool and hot tub are inviting and intimate. Everyone there was so gracious and friendly - they really made our stay special. I recommend this spot highly if you are in Willits. Say hello to Bob for us!! read more

We did not stay at the inn. While it does like very nice. My family of 7 was having RV trouble. We were walking outside the inn trying to figure out what to do due to it being 6pm. Everything is closed and the kids are hungry. Two of my children are under 3 years old and this older gentleman was not so gentle and told my husband that if we so much as touch his grass again he would call the police. My children were walking and playing on the sidewalk but my littles were on the small patch of grass. It just makes me sad that when we are in trouble and far from home that this would not be the place to come for kindness and understanding. read more

PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE! This was one of the most horrendous experiences in my travel history. I remain speechless and shocked with what we experienced and how poorly the hotel has chosen to handle the situation. It will be interesting to see how the establishment will try to rationalize all of this, in their response to my review. Please see the pictures at the end as proof of this experience, the detailed account follows. My significant other and I simply wanted a clean and safe space to lay our heads, to take a break from the long drive home. We found this hotel and booked through Expedia. On the outside the hotel seemed attractive and inviting. We arrived and proceeded to check in. To our disappointment and surprise, upon opening the door to the first room we were offered, we found that the room was unclean and had been recently used, as evidenced by the bed linens being in disarray. No big deal, we thought. Things happen, we'll just notify the hotel and swap rooms. The staff were kind and apologetic, they swapped us to a second room. Upon opening the door to the replacement room, we found it was also in disarray, but even worse, used diapers were on the bed (see picture), there was uneaten food on the desk, and trash was strewn about the room. At this point we were too exhausted to be upset, we humbly wanted a reasonably clean place to sleep so we could safely get back on the road and get home. We notified hotel staff and were swapped to a THIRD room. This time the staff accompanied us, he opened the door and his jaw dropped in horror as the third room had two unmade beds with linens splayed upon the desk (see pictures). This third room was also unclean. To our unpleasant surprise, we were given sheets to MAKE OUR OWN BEDS and advised to stay in this room. "It's fine, I'm exhausted, I just need to sleep," was the only thought I could muster. The next morning we arrived to the front desk to check out. To the credit of the staff on hand at that moment, they were sweet, apologetic, and expressed utter embarrassment with our experience. They promised us a full refund, but that we would need to notify Expedia to obtain it. After notifying Expedia, this was the response I received, verbatim (copied directly from the email), "Hello Robin, I am following up on your complain. We have contacted Baechtel Creek Inn, Ascend Hotel Collection and addressed your issue but they replied that nothing was brought to their attention from any guest during their stay and no record of any issues so there will be no refund. Should you have other queries, please out to us again. Regards, Chamroy S delcshimrah Expedia Customer Support." I think it was reasonable to expect a safe and clean space to rest for the evening. I am so disappointed in how Baechtel Creek Inn handled this nightmare of a situation. Please save yourself the agony and stay away from here! I booked the handicap room for a 3 nights for my cousin to stay in while he visited us for our Thanksgiving In November 2024. I paid when I booked the room for him. He arrived and dropped his things in the room and then came to our house. Upon arriving back late that night and accompanied by my husband they found the toilet to be dirty (to the point of really gross - they took pictures) and the heater for the room not working. My husband went to the front office and the Clerk accompanied him back to the room. They showed him the toilet to which he replied something like "these things happen sometimes." He could not get the heater working so he left and returned with a space heater. He didn't offer to clean the toilet. My cousin needed to go to bed at that point. In the morning he got into the shower and the drain ended up backing up and water was all over the floor. He threw towels down so as not to slip and fall in the water in order to get out. The next day I called and talked to the front desk. The clerk Laura was very apologetic. She had also been very nice and accommodating when I originally booked the room offering to help my cousin out if he needed assistance. She said she would move him to another room and inspect it personally, which she did. I went to the hotel after my cousin left and asked that the first night be comped for the disgusting state of the room he stayed in that night. Laura couldn't override the charge and could not get the owner, Jan Rodriquez, on the line. She was once again apologetic but also confident Jan would refund the 1st night. I took one of Jan's cards which has her email but not phone number on it. I was contacted the next day and told that Jan said since my cousin stayed in the room the first night she would not refund any money but she would give us a 25% discount on another night in the future. I then sent Jan an email with the above information and a picture of the toilet attached and asked her to reconsider. I said her response was inadequate and I doubted she would want me to explain all this in a review. I asked for a response. Jan never responded to my email. Can I do zero stars? Fridge didn't work, shower didn't work, wet towels crumpled up on a shelf, and the kicker is the meth pipe we found in the coffee cup in a room kids were staying in. Seems like they don't have a maid service. Also, Holes in the walls, trim missing from ceiling, no threshold under the door about a 2 inch gap. Hotel is absolutely not worth the price they charge. When we asked for one night of the 2 nights stay to be comped due to the huge huge inconvenience and also the dangerous drug paraphernalia they leave laying around (child endangerment IMO) the person at the desk practically LAUGHED and said "that's not gonna happen" You can stay where you want but just be aware that this place is not fancy or nice or the elegant spa they boast about being. Please don't stay at this hotel. As posted in other negative reviews if I could give zero stars I would! This hotel looks good, and compared to others in Willits seems like a good choice. However, if you are simply trying to identify an issue, the management is not available or cooperative from that point. We weren't looking for a refund, but possibly some consideration that after just a few minutes in the shower, the drain backed up and you are standing in a pool of water. Very Gross! Upon checkout, I showed the sweet young lady the video I shot of the problem and she assured me that Jan the manager would get back to me. She also thanked me for not yelling at her which I found unusual. (Obviously they have a history of disgruntled customers) We checked out and when I didn't hear anything by the time we got home, I called back. They said you just missed her, she will call you back. I didn't hear anything, so I called back this morning and Jan answered the phone. I told her I was expecting a call back and she said she hadn't received my handwritten note or my messages. I then broke it all down for her. She asked for the video and then claimed to have issued a $23 credit to my card. I responded that although I wasn't seeking a full refund that $23 was hardly worth my time. At that point she stated that they rented the room again without a complaint and checked the shower which seemed to be fine... Then I got mad!! If the next guest doesn't mind standing in other people's wash water or if they didn't run it for a couple of minutes like I suggested then that doesn't mean it's not a problem! On another note, the "continental" breakfast is a joke! No fruit; just weak coffee, gloppy oatmeal, hard brown sugar, eggo frozen waffles, yogurt (not in individual cups) and an apology that they were out of English muffins. It was "continental" alright, but the quality was the worst I've seen as a seasoned traveler. The room had a scent of some spray probably used to resemble a "clean" smell, but was a red flag for us and we found the room to be somewhat clean, but obviously not at a high standard that you would expect from the hotel's outward appearance. I did have a conversation with Choice Hotels Group and they didn't seem surprised to hear my concerns. I hope to see the extra $100 hold and my measly $23 credit come back to my card within the next couple of days or I will be disputing the whole transaction with my bank by early next week. If Jan does decide to respond to this review, I would expect nothing less than more excuses and restatements that they didn't find anything wrong. We were driving through and stopped for the night. The hotel was extremely quiet and we were able to sleep through the night without disruption. The hotel room was clean and the check in procedure complied with COVID-19 requirements. My one major complaint is that the shower head is probably designed for someone who is 4 feet tall. If you're tall (like me) you will have to suck to shower comfortably Overall it is a great place to stay the night for a quick overnight trip. I will agree with another reviewer the beds are FIRM...be cautious of that. Willits is a small town with not a lot of options. read more

The outside of the hotel looks cute. The bedrooms were outdated microwave and mini fridge probably from the 90's. beds were extremely hard, air conditioning made rattling sound all night. All that would have been fine but red water came out when bath was turned on. Weird red tissue of some sort came out of bathtub drain when plugged. We were under the impression that it was a "bed and breakfast" but it is a "bed and pay $5 each for breakfast somewhere else". The outdated rooms and breakfast are ok but there's no excuse for paying $200 for a room with red water and a random red something in the bath. read more

No room has a view of creek. We were extremely disappointed to have what seems like the room farthest away from any steps and our car. And we asked. That will teach me not to look at Yelp pictures first. The drought is over but there was no water in the fountain. Is that a chair with an ottoman in that picture? We did not have an ottoman. Is that a table tall enough to eat on? We didn't have a table we could eat on in our room. Our shower squirted water all out over the bathroom. The tub was cracked in such a way that I was concerned about my feet. And I don't know how they get these pictures to look so bright, but with one window at one end of the room with a roof over it does not make a room as bright as these pictures. The simple fact is that marketing people have taken the best pictures they could and they did a great job of selling it as a pretty peaceful place. I thought it was a barely glorified Motel 6. And look at the lovely picture of the only view we had other than the parking lot which was the view going up to our room. read more

We took a weekend motorcycle trip from the bay area and Willits was our turnaround point. I booked us a couple rooms at the Baechtel Creek Inn because the reviews were decent, the facilities and location looked good, and the price was right. It's also nicely tucked away, off the main drag. We arrived and checked in. The desk staff was very thorough and friendly. She regretted to inform us that due to Covid-19, the pool and hot tub were closed, and they weren't able to offer the free breakfast either. That was a bit of a bummer, but they took care of our breakfast in the way of free vouchers for an inexpensive breakfast just down the street at Lumberjack's, which was more than adequate. My room was really clean and had all the amenities I needed. The only bummer I have to dock them for is that the bed was hard as rock, and not comfortable (for me). Luckily, I was so tired from riding all day that I fell asleep anyway and slept OK, but I wasn't fully rested in the AM. Other than the torture rack of a bed, everything was great. Towels were soft and clean, hot water was plentiful, and it was quiet. I'd stay there again, especially if they upgraded their mattresses. If you like very firm beds, you would like this inn. read more

The hotel looks great on the outside and was nice on the inside. Clean and comfortable, just what we needed. The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. Normally, this is a hotel we would have on our list for repeate stops while on road-trips. Here is why we will not go back: 1. When we went down to get breakfast, there was a man re-loading the waffles from a bag with his bare hands and no mask. This is during COVID! I am not sure if the guy actually works for the hotel or was just helping out. A previous comment about him was that the hotel staff knows him well. When we were checking-out, we mentioned it to the front desk staff and she just said she would make a note. All food handlers should be using, at a minimum, gloves when handling food. We were wondering how their corporate partners would view this. 2. We had the "do not disturbed" sign on the door yet housekeeping came knocking before 10am. She said she was just checking. Seriously? Check-out was at least an hour away and we had the sign up. read more

Ick!!! We made reservation on the phone for a pet friendly room, with a king bed. $157.00 for 1 night. We checked in, went to out room, it REEKED of cigarette smoke so we picked up the room phone to call the office. There was no phone cord, so we called from our cell phone. The attendant came down and agreed that is smelled like cigarettes, she then said this is a smoke free motel. She had a maintenance man come down with some sort of equipment to put in the room to help get rid of the smell. It was so bad, I doubt that they can get rid of it. She then said the missing cord is always an issue. They moved us to a 2 queen pet room. This room had a phone cord but the phone did not work. Why have phones in the room if they don't work? The alarm clock didn't work either, I tried to adjust the time to the correct time, but it was broken! What kind of lousy place is this? The heater was the noisy darn thing ever!!! It would run for a few minutes, then shut off. When it came back on it made all sorts of loud noises. I had to turn it off, then I froze all night long. The TV remote had dead batteries, and the TV is very small too. There was a table and 2 chairs crammed into this room, the table is broken (Wobbly) due to the legs being loose. The room key (card key) didn't work, you had insert it at least a dozen times to get it to work. The lady said she has to lift it when pulling it out to get it to work. It took her 5 or 6 times to get it to work too. Again, what kind of expensive cheap ass place is this? Overall this place is worse than a motel 6. Evidentially the cleaning people don't tell the management about all of the broken items or dead batteries or missing phone cords. I recommend that you all find somewhere else to stay, do not stay at this dump! The lady attendant that helped us was very professional, we thank her for her helping us. read more

This Hotel is a rip off! They will cheat you out of your deposit. I just stayed here and had a great experience until checkout time when I was told I was not going to get my deposit back. They said I smoked in the room and they took a picture of a roach I had left in the trash can in the bathroom. I didn't smoke in the room and I will not let this go. I am a smoker. I also work in the legal cannabis industry. I stayed here knowing you can't smoke inside and I was fine with that. This is supposed to be the nice hotel and I wanted to do something nice for my girlfriend on her birthday. We are in between houses and have been staying in motels often... So I decided to spring for the nice hotel. BAD DECISION!!!! They took $250 dollars cash deposit and will not give it back! I won't let this go and I WILL get my money back I will tell everyone I know NOT TO STAY HERE. Dog friendly and quiet place, close to several things in town of Willits. Rooms are okay, nothing special. Comfy king bed but on the firmer side. We had a dog friendly room that came with a dog bed a doggie goodie bag with poop bags and treats. That was a nice touch. Room had a fridge and coffee amenities which was nice before heading out since we missed breakfast. Had very little interaction with the staff but they seemed pleasant. Overall, it's a decent place for a night or two when traveling with a dog. I would return if in the area. read more

The "so-called manager" sent me harassing emails to the point where I had to contact Choice Hotels to force her to stop. They refused to cancel our Dec 9th reservation when it was cancelled in November. Our credit card company reversed the charges although this crazy "manager" claims otherwise. I would strongly advise avoiding this place at all costs. Other reviews tell horror stories so everyone can't be wrong. The staff refuses to accept responsibility for anything, the customer is always wrong. I believe they are drowning in debt and just want to rip off as much money as they can from people for as long as they can hold on. Beware, there are other choices in Willits, or go up the road to Ukiah for lots more nice hotels. read more

We were in town for one night for a special prestigious event and were very disappointed. Our room was not very clean. The value was not appropriate either. Lower floor, small bathroom, hard bed, no amenities and with tax we paid over $200.00. Then after we checked out we were charged an additional fee of $14 for a towel that my husband used to wipe his shoe off with. It was only a little dirt and they charged us the price of a luxury towel. We are very disappointed and will never return or refer this hotel. read more

Word of the Day: charming -adjective 1. pleasing; delightful Used in a sentence: Baechtel Creek Inn was positively charming with its uniquely decorated antique filled rooms and friendly front desk personnel. Despite being the Gateway to the Redwoods, Willits doesn't make a big splash on many peoples radars. This is a shame because it's so close to Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Ukiah and all of the surrounding vineyards. I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations at Baechtel Creek Inn. Each room is uniquely decorated with various themes, filled with an intriguing mix of antiques and bargains (I knew that vase on the TV armoire looked familiar--$9.99 at Ross!). The continental breakfasts lasted until 10 AM and included home-made waffles and pastries, and although the selection wasn't the greatest in the world, you could eat as much as your heart desired. A pool, hot tub, and picnic area/courtyard round out the atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the immediate call to the room to check if we needed anything, the extra down comforter automatically provided, the free robes in the room, and the wall heater that was very efficient. A couple notes: 1. When making up the bedroom for guests staying longer than one night, don't forget to refresh the toilet paper stash!!, and 2. Since it is a day spa as well as an inn, it might be beneficial in terms of marketing to look into stocking some trial size samples of a few of the products used in your spa in the actual rooms, i.e. lotions, shampoos, face wash, whatever, as opposed to generic samples. Just an idea! All in all, I highly enjoyed my time here, particularly when I woke up one morning to a fresh, light covering of snow, and the feeling of being in a snow globe. Willits is worth visiting in the winter, and Baechtel Creek Inn is worth staying in all year round. read more

Decided to come up for Labor Day weekend and found this hotel. We booked quickly as there was not many places left to reserve. It did not disappoint. We stayed 2 nights and the room got serviced after the first night, we hadn't had that happen before but it was not a problem and enjoyed coming back to a clean room after being out all day. I arrived early evening with my two doggies I had to get a room because of the storm. There was only one dog room left It was $209 plus an added hundred dollars for deposit which I will get back on my credit card. The room was horrible it smelled and was super outdated. The first thing I did was take off the polyester covers off of bed yuck!!! thank goodness I pack my own blankets to put on the bed because it was just a sheet and that funky quilt thing which I think was where the odor was coming from . It had a really weird decor not pleasing at all .I got the farthest room away from the office. (Not by choice) My key didn't work. I had to walk to the office four times to fix the key. The lady at the front desk had to walk to my room and open the door for me and then she gave me the key which didn't work for me after she left and it never got resolved after 4 times I was over walking to front desk when I walked my dogs at night and this morning I had to leave my door unlocked, then when I went to check out, I went to have my complimentary breakfast, it was so sad.
